rpretzel
I love my Beltronics RX65. Relatively low price and works really well. It has front and rear sensors. It picks up a lot of grocery store doors, but I prefer over-sensitivity to missing the real thing.

Thet say there is no detector they can`t detect $155.00 fine 3 demerit points & they take your radar detector. Also 50 over the speed limit you lose your car & lic. for 7days & pay for the tow & storage fee & up to $2,000 to $10,000 fine. Great living here with a Shelby I think I`ll move.. The Beltronics Sti Driver is a top of the line Beltronics radar detector and has the ability to block the police radar units from detecting your radar unit.Hence a radar dector blocker. HOWEVER IF YOU WANT THE BEST UNIT ON THE MARKET THAT WOULD BE THE BELTRONICS RX75 WITH HIDDEN HEAD UNIT AND FRONT,REAR DETECTION AND LASER BLOCKING. IT IS AN AWESOME UNIT THAT I INSTALLED IN MY WIFES EXPEDITION AND WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TICKET IN 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. ON MANY OCCASSION THE DIGITAL READ OUT ON THE HEAD UNIT DISPLAYS THE WORD BLOCKING. MAKING YOU AWARE THAT YOU WERE OR ARE BEING HIT WITH LASER RADAR WHICH SEND A BLANK READ OUT BACK TO THE POLICE CARS RADAR UNIT. CHECK THESE 2 UNITS I MENTIONED YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. enormous
Does that apply to us vistors from south of your border or to everybody?? This is Ontario's street racing law. 50km or 30 mph over and it applies to anyone caught speeding this fast or more. It has proved to be a real pain for our American vistors because of the automatic impoundment. I'm not sure if the other Canadian Provinces have a similar law. dbackg
I personally have two Valentine1's. I love them. Saved me lots of times. However, V1 does not upgrade for free. The price is significantly less than buying a brand new one. I would probably send in at least every 3-5 years for updating. V1 has a very nice interactive website whereas you can enter your V1 serial # and the website will tell you if it is necessary to send in. You will have to call them to inquire on the "upgrade" price. Mike Valentine, owner & creator used to work for Escort, so says the rumor. However, the "NEW" technology is GPS & "laser shifting". I have read/researched and found Escort model series 9500 is the best. 9500xi or the stealth 9500ci. I live in Tempe, AZ and travel to Vegas and SoCal all the time. The radar detector has paid for itself. The way I look at it, in life, you get what you pay for ... you buy cheap you get cheap. You buy expensive and you get top of the line. Otherwise we all be driving run of the mill stangs. Enough said and off the soap box. Good luck to you all.

chuckstang
V1 but I have a question, at some point awhile back a feature of my v1 stopped working. I use to be able to turn the one smaller knob to turn the volume down on recurring signals. Anotherwords if your in a commerical area and getting alot of bogus beeps, I could turn the smaller dial left and it would lower the volume of the repetative beaping but when a new alert came about it would be as loud as what I have the larger knob adjustable setting on. does anyone know what I am talking about? Should I send it in, or how do you do any downloads to it from my comp? thanks
RadarExpert
Hello Shelby enthusiasts. The detectors mentioned in this thread so far (Beltronics, Escort, and Valentine) are all the top of the line and provide enough performance to be effective. The differences are mostly the features and the user interface, options, etc. The detector industry has made some giant leaps in the past couple years, probably the most since their inception in the 70s. Allow me to explain some of these new features which have been touched on in this thread: - Stealth, the invisibility to police radar detector detectors (RDDs) - How a detector works, very basically, is it generates a signal then compares this signal to the signals that it receives. This internal signal "leaks" and can be detected by certain equipment. The only windshield mounted radar detector that emits little to none of this internal signal and is completely immune to all police detection devices is the Beltronics STi Driver. It also includes the absolute best range to radar and laser alerts for a portable detector. Areas where detector use is regulated: DC, VA, some provinces of Canada, and all of USA and Canado for commercial truck drivers. Both Beltronics and Escort offer custom mounted systems that are also immune to all RDDs. - Laser jamming/blocking/shifting - Laser (LIDAR) used by police is not regulated by the FCC as radar is, therefore equipment that emits laser signals is not federally illegal as radar jammers are. Laser jammers may be regulated by local enforcement as a means to counter police speed measuring. Beltronics and Escort are the only manufacturers of all-in-one installed radar detection and laser jamming systems. They are also the only companies that offers the option of upgrading a portable unit with an integrated laser jamming system. These can be easily and temporarily deactivated when jamming a laser signal so that, once speed is checked, an actual laser reading can be made so as not to draw unwanted attention. The system auto-reactivates after a minute or so. - GPS enabled detectors - IMO this is the by far the revolution of modern detectors. GPS allows the detector to be aware of its location. The first benefit is blocking those annoying false alerts so common among detectors. Escort's 9500i uses manual blocking of falses and the 9500ix uses auto-blocking (capable of manual too). When a real radar gun is present where a false is blocked, the detector sees multiple signals and alerts as normal. Another and increasingly important GPS feature is red light and speed camera alerts. The Escort 9500ix and Bel GX65 both are loaded with these verified locations and are web capable for at-home updating of the camera database as well as the firmware. Cameras are being installed so often that both Bel and Escort offer weekly updates now. - Arrows - This is Valentine's V1 exclusive feature using a front, a side-to-side, and a rear light to indicate the general direction that a signal is received from. Valentine's V1 also feature great range but have no GPS or laser jamming solutions available. These three brands are the only ones in my opinion capable of offering the performance to be truly effective. They all also offer 30 day trial periods on their products, if ordered directly through them, so you can try each and see which has the features you like. RadarExpert
Sure cluscher. When a LIDAR laser signal is detected the transceivers that are mounted on your vehicle send a signal back to the laser gun which confuses the laser gun preventing it to lock on with a speed reading of your vehicle. If you are the only car that the officer shoots all day that won't give him a reading, and you probably will be, you will surely get his undivided attention. To answer this, the Beltronics and Escort systems use a simple double press of the mute button to turn off the jammer function but it will still let you know that you are being shot with laser. That way you have some time to check your speed while it is jamming, then you shut off the jammer so that a speed reading can be acquired by the officer. A recent encounter with my Cincinnati Microwave ZR4 system integrated with a Passport 9500ix Driving along an interstate highway when my laser alert went crazy. Barely noticed a motorcycle officer shooting me about 1000ft ahead from the end of a highway median, he was resting the gun on the wall like a sniper. You could only really see his helmet from that distance. My system is now blocking his laser gun (and tells me "shifting"). I checked my speed then double tapped mute to shut off laser jamming long before I get to him (now doing 65MPH), then I see him pick up the gun, look at the lense, then aim at me again and he got a reading. Situation avoided. About a minute later the system notifies me that jamming is turned back on. Very easy to use and very slick technology, all operated through my existing 9500ix detector. How prevalent is laser out there these days? Thanks for the info.

In my area, they use more laser than microwave technology. Unfortunately, I do not want to mount the transmitter receiver on the bumper of my Shelby nor cut into the grill to make openings for the transmitter / receiver. In fact, many of us Shelby owner don't even put a front license plate on the front bumper because we would damage the front bumper stripe. So what can you tell us about Blinder technology? What type of performance would we get if we placed 4 transmitter / receivers behind the egg-crate grill? The standard Blinder unit only comes with 2 transmitter / receivers. From the IR pictures I have seen of laser jammers, the light they give off it quite intense, so is it possible that using 4 transmitter / receivers will still give excellent performance despite being mounted behind the egg-crate grill? RadarExpert
jammers are illegal are they not? Pretty sure jammers are illegal in all 50 states Radar jamming is VERY illegal in the USA and Canada. Radar is under the FCC jurisdiction, so jamming radar is a federal offense. LIDAR laser however, which is what we are talking about, is not radio but light so is not under FCC regulation. Some jurisdictions do regulate the use of laser jammers under the clause "any method used to circumvent the measuring of a vehicle's speed". This is usually a ticketable offense though as opposed to operating a radar jammer. I am not a legal expert so check your local laws if this is a concern of yours. I agree, I wouldn't want to cut into the grille or any other part of a car such as a Shelby either. However i'm sure there is a way to mount them without cutting the grille, it may require making brackets though. In the pics of the Mustang that I posted before I would attempt to mount them in the open areas of the bumper next to the license plate. If you are seriously interested, then try calling Escort (or an authorized dealer) and asking if the unit can be returned for a refund before you mount the unit. That way you can get a better idea what you are dealing with and if it doesn't look possible you can get your money back. I believe that once they are mounted they cannot be returned for a refund. The laser transceivers, regardless of brand, require a clear line of sight of the road ahead. Blinders receive great reviews. I have not used them so I really cannot comment about them. I do know that they will not integrate function with radar detectors as the Escort ZR4 will, they are a stand alone solution. You could theoretically also get 2 ZR4s or a 9500ci and a ZR4 to run 4 transeivers up front. I saw an Eclipse online a long time ago with two ZR3 systems (the older version of ZR4) installed, total of 4 transceivers up front and 2 in rear. Yes the ZR4 detects laser far better than any windshield mounted unit but laser alerts are either "on" or "off" there is no ramp-up meter as with radar. Due to laser's focused nature, there is no need to indicate signal strength, if you are detecting it, check your speed immediately! Each ZR4 transceiver module has, I think, 4 receive diodes and 8 transmit diodes and they should be located in between the front license plate and headlights which are targetted by police (this is why some states require front plates, laser targets) They are so sensitive that I have received alerts from laser scatter from cars targeted traveling the opposite direction on roadways.
