08shelbygt/superbee
I'm trying to learn about these cars by reading these forums and I'm really pretty new to the whole car scene...So what exactly does the strut tower brace do? I thought all it was there for was to reinforce the chasis...Is this right? or does is do something else like affect handling?
68fastback
Yes to both... it stiffens the chassis so that in hard braking the towers can't push together and in hard cornering both sides share the lateral load and the geometry is therefore kept correct so the car tracks more accurately under tortional chassis loads. Even these S197 'stangs that have significantly improved tortional rigidity over the outgoing SN95s benefit from the strut tower brace since it's part of the engineered design. It also helps a bit with things like dash-shake over lateral bumps (when an IRS might otherwise reduce 'chatter') and in general will help keep things 'tighter' over time. 08shelbygt/superbee
Thanks for the response...I was wondering why everyone seemed to make it a big deal in wanting to keep the strut tower brace when supercharging their car...
