Grabber I'm inspired..

 

I'm 285lbs. but I'm also 6'6". I've been recovering from major ankle surgery over the last 3 months and the pain still has to be managed. Just started walking again a few weeks ago. Can't wait to get back to the gym after PT is over.

 

Major ankle surgery = 2 Orthopedic Surgeons that keep the S.F. Giants and 49ers in good order. It took both of them 5.5 hours to rebuild my ankle. Six incisions, including one over 10" long. Insurance costs were $105K.

Wow man - That's a big screw in your bone for sure. I wish you the best in getting all healed back up. Getting back in shape is a gift to yourself and untill you feel the pleasure back in your body and skin....you forget what you are missing.

 

I'm 5'-10 1/4" tall and now that I am back in shape....I feel so much better and have a much better outlook on everything.

I hope some of you are making progress this week. I just recorded my 20th week weigh in here at the house. I think it's good to do once a week to make sure things don't get back out of control.

 

I just got back from a 5 mile run. Time for coffee, newspaper....then Church.

Ouch That looks painful.

 

Have you seen the shoes called Z Coil's? I've ha friend that was in an MVA about 5 years ago. Status Post surgery and rehab, he was in so much pain, he could not wear regular shoes. Anyway Nike have a shoe that looks similiar to this Z-Coil shoe http://www.zcoil.com/. Ortho's swear by it.. You might want to look out for them. I've heard they're brilliant with people that have ortho probs.

Nice job, loosing weight is a real chore. I LOST 165# but no one paid me to do it ;) I'm still above you in % of fat . . . I think. I must lower by beer consumption to loose farther.

 

It is a chore getting to your goal. I went lower than my goal and now I just need to maintain my new lifestyle of eating habits. When I go out to eat, I eat Chicken Salad or Taco salads or something healthy. No fried foods.

 

What's your body fat ratio ?

The last time I was in the dunk tank the numbers were WAY off the numbers from my ferkin scale. I'm probably at around 25%, 6'2" 218, lift weights with a trainer 3x a week for the last 3 years.

 

I have just got back into lifting weights 4 weeks ago. I have been doing it 4 days a week and each day I work a specific muscle group. It's my plan to put some weight back on...In the form of muscle. I have been now doing that for 4 weeks and it's working. I ran 5 miles each morning the last 3 days and tomorrow I will hit the gym (Mon - Thurs) on the weights after 1 hour of cardio on the Precore and bike. I have been hitting my abs pretty hard as well on Mon-Thursday with a dose of 400 crunches. I do this in the morning before work. It takes me an hour and 40 minutes and then shower and I'm off to work.

 

Here's my weigh in this morning. My plan is to level out at 170 - 175. I'm 5'-10-1/4" tall so this should be a good weight for me.

This has been my work out schedule for the last month.

 

Mon - Thursday Hit the gym before work and do 1 hour of cardio = 40 minutes on the elliptical trainer (precore machine) and then 20 minutes on the bike. Then I do 400 sit up crunchs (4 sets of 100 each). Then I hit the weights on a fast track not stop effort to do 5 different movements all with the same muscle group. Each day I focus on a different muscle group.

Monday: Back

Tuesday: Chest

Wed: Biceps

Thursday: Triceps

 

Then my work out for the rest of the week is done at home running.

Friday: 5 mile run

Sat: 5 mile run

Sunday: 5 mile run

Here is my body break down. I have not been tracking all this, but since I am trying to build muscle, I'm going to start tracking it.

 

Body Fat: 22.7%

Water Mass: 52.8%

Bone Mass: 4.0%

Muscle mass: 38.2%

One thing I have noticed this summer. Being in shape makes it alot easier to tolerate the heat. I don't seem to sweat as much and I feel much more comfortable.

Congrats Rob! I've put on a few pounds since I left the Air Force and started my own journey on 1 Jul. Hoping to lose 31 lbs in 23 weeks. We are going on a cruise in December. My personal trainer wife is helping me.

Exercise is the main key. Regular work outs is required.

 

Stay away from the cookies and chips and junk food and eat nuts and fruit for snacks.

 

If you eat out....Eat salads or low fat meals.

 

Don't have 2nds and keep the portions medium sized.
