500 Blue
As the topic reads, if you had to do it over again and buy your GT 500 again would you buy it new or pick up a used one for $5k or so less. There are used GT 500 running around for around for good deals, I see picking up one for around $38k. I also have the opportunity to buy an 09 GT 500 for invoice price. Someone on this forum told me that any build after Aug. 26th 2008 I could avoid the TSBs that everyone dreads. So again I ask, if you had to choose which would you do, any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

So again I ask, if you had to choose which would you do, any advice would be appreciated, Thanks! New is nice but in todays market why bother. There are cars that are so close to new for 10k less. If I could turn the clock back I would simply not waste my money on a car I thought was going to be limited production. THen again after owning 4 different cars I would love to start over and buy the one I am selling for what I need to sell it for in order to sell it at all. Parts now have more value than the cars themselves. Dont get me wrong they are great cars.... If you can buy a 2009 for invoice which his approx 4k under msrp go for it but remember the second you drive it around the block it will be worth even less. You would have to have the attitude Grabber has and buy it to keep without caring what happens to the value. If money gets tight and you have to worry about it simply keep your money and dont buy. If you have no worries about affording it if you lose your job or something else financial comes up then go ahead and buy one.
Cali_KR
Depends on the $$$ and mileage of the used car, but so many have so few miles, and if they have some of the mods...even better 10k is a lot of savings....so I'd take a look at the used market place, of course if you go new, you won't have the dreaded clutch TSB to worry about... Either way, these cars are totally badass...good luck in your search

FiaCobra
I would buy new again. Nothing like ordering a car the exact way you want it.
thewheelman
I don't have a problem buying used, depending on the mileage and service history. Existing factory warranty provides confidence that anything wrong can be corrected with little or no cost to you. But, on our cars, I'd be really picky.....low, low mileage, like 5k or less..... Speaking of which, how does CarMax get cars with that low mileage??? At this point, I don't think you can order your car, unless you're looking for a 2010....you might be able to get a dealer to search one out that matches your wishes...... Having said all that, I bought a brand new 2007, in August of this year.....
Whammer
It's really an individual choice. Some don't mind buying used. In the case of THIS car I wanted a new one. The dealership were I bought mine from also had a GT500 dealer company car ( one the owners drove it). It had about 3000 miles on it and they would've taken another 2k off the selling price- but I'd rather have spent the extra 2k and got new- which I did. The only reason I would do this (buy new instead of low mileage used) is to buy a car that was built AFTER Aug. 26 2008 to avoid the TSB nightmare that everyone seems to be having. If the savings was only a few thousand it may be worth the money. The car i'm looking at is a basic 09 with an invocie around $41k Thanks for your opinions keep them coming! malcoll
I would have preferred buying used.... 1 year old... but at the time folks were asking MSRP prices (or higher) on 1 year old GT500 Convertibles. I bought mine NEW for MSRP.. that was a year ago. I didn't want to wait longer and did not anticipate this economic debacle.... if I had consulted my CRAZY 8 BALL... I would have seen this economy coming and waited one more year and gotten a smokin deal on a used convertible. Buy used... let someone else take the depreciation hit.. and use the extra cash for mods... or buy something for the family with it. As far as "order like you want it"... what's that about... the options list is limited... so I am sure there will be the combinations of options out there somewhere. Just be diligent and patient (something I apparently am not) and you'll get what you want for a fair deal.
