illsley
I have had my passenger's side exhaust support bracket welds break off the muffler twice now. The first time, the Ford dealer found a replacement part for me form Shelby with the stock muffler and tip. Since that time, the service reps who were used to dealing with my Shelby GT have left. The reps that are now dealing with the car tell me that the replacement muffler, bracket, and tip combination are only sold as a kit from Ford Racing for a total of $564. Can anyone help me understand how to point my Ford dealer to the right parts to replace the stock muffler / exhaust tip? Any help would be greatly appreciated. LuLu
This is confusing to say the least. Why can't a generic muffler bracket be installed? Moreover, if they have to buy a whole kit, so what. It's under warranty, right?
tispco
I hope this is not a common problem with SGT mufflers. I have a pair on my Mustang and the driver's side hanger broke off. The hanger is still there, so I am going to see if it can be welded back on. Disappointing the quality is not better on these mufflers.

This happened to mine, passenger side as well, and it was replaced under warranty. This should be replaced with no questions asked as part of your 3/36 Shelby Warranty Addendum. -Jeff Pics of mine:
abe
Mine broke off and the dealer welded it back on because they could not figure out how to get it warrantied. I called the number at the top of the shelby gt threads and talked to someone that told me to give that number to my dealer and have them call to get things rolling. SHELBYBRO
Mine was making a loud noise when it was hot and the dealer called Shelby and had it replaced .
Jer
Mine broke on the driver's side. Local muffler shop welded it back on. I guess they're not very good mufflers... Jer
tekheavy
My drivers side broke off. I took off the muffler and had a friend weld it back on rather than go through the warranty nightmare.
Frank S
On the Mustang forums there are many reported instances of aftermarket FRPP M-5230-GTA mufflers breaking at the place the hanger meets the lip of the canister. It's just a bad design. Look where the stock GT hanger is attached: never heard of a breakage, and it's a good deal heavier than the GTA.. Vendors seem to have been good about replacing the broken mufflers.
