Evil95GT
I caught this show for the first time tonight. They were using a Ford GT and a real GT500 for stunts in an upcoming movie. The GT500 made a practice run, and without giving TOO much away, it suffered some damage after landing in a pile of cardboard boxes. Here's a description: Shooting CarsAll New! The shop gets the call when The Late Show wants to drop a safe from the roof onto a car on the street. Gino supervises a stunt utilizing a new Mustang Cobra for "I am Legend," currently filming with Will Smith. And a teaser pic: So be sure to tune in next week, folks, when the GT500 will complete the stunt that will be seen in the movie. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 @ 8 pm. Check your local propgramming. Evil95GT
This one is definitely the real deal, sadly enough. They have quite a few underhood shots in the show, and they had to tweak the suspension for the "jump". It was just something weird to see, when they're so many folks longing for one of these cars, and here's someone destroying one. They did add, however, that they're going to try to "save" the car. If it was just the one, that would be bad enough. I figure at least three cars are going to end up in bits. I have to give it to them though, they finally found a GT500 I wouldn't want... And I thought that the pic we saw earlier this year of the car on a hauler had a better ride height, it was airbags. And who screwed up in Marketing at Ford? The call the car the new Mustang COBRA, and thats not the truth!!

carnut
Hey I just figured out where they got the GT500. It is 'rbortnick's car that he can't seem to find. I hope they shoot the scene's quick and get his car to him, 'cause he's pretty upset!!! A little Bondo here, a squirt of paint there and a red Sharpie marker, he will never know

They should have used a 2005 V-6 ex rental stang and made it look like a shelby if the parts are available. Wait till next wednesday they showed a preview i think i saw a gt500 with the entire front clip sawzalled off WTF Sorry guys we are all mustang guys/gals so you all can relate. I dont even have a vin yet must be the major psds. Ok ill shut up now think ill have a few beers.

Jetsolver - didn't intend my comment toward you, I didn't take your post that way. My comment was made towards piperpilotduane. I didn't take any offense at your post at all, I hope you didn't take any at mine. It just cracks me up that some people are absolutely convinced that these cars are not "True Shelbys", but they would never say that about '68's, '69's or '70's and Shelby had less to do with those cars than he did the '07's. Anyway, I don't give a damn about Shelby vs SVT or any of that stuff, it's a Ford Mustang as far as I'm concerned, and it's the most powerful one built to date. That's enough for me.! As a side note - I know people who own early Shelby's who are offended when people refer to their cars as Mustangs! "It's not a Mustang dammit! It's a Shelby! ( or GT350 or GT500 ) Personally I think it's ridiculous! They are all awesome cars, a name is just a name. lets' just drive them and enjoy them! They had to have gotten the car (s) through Ford, and as it is a major movie, somebody in PR didn't do their job. Even more stunning is the fact that fans and owners like us are attacking each other, instead of FREAKING that a LIMITED production car, supposedly designed for everyman(woman) is being destroyed and abused(and unlike the rest of Hollywood not miraculously unscathed) when any old rental car with some cheap body mods would do better(bet it wouldn't keep ending nose down!) I love all mustangs and my 1993 and 2000 cobra R's are limited production. If the 2009 GRT500KR is held to 500 units or less it will be limited. Just try to remember that crashing cars for movies is a business. It's more of a shame that the show had to paint and cut a new S500 in half than jumping the GT 500. S500's in are harder to locate than the GT500! We all need to face the fact that 10K units a year is considered mass production by most collectors. 68fastback
They should have just contracted the 'build' for the movie out to those dealers hawking bogus GT500 on the net! A worthwhile use for bogus GT500s, yes?
mrdci
They should have just contracted the 'build' for the movie out to those dealers hawking bogus GT500 on the net! A worthwhile use for bogus GT500s, yes? They should have built or bought the clone that was on ebay for 40K. Looks like the real thing on the outside so doubt anyone would notice. Besides this car will be on ebay in a few years just like the Yenkos and Challengers of 2F@F and will want more money cause it will be certified and in a movie. carnut
Caroll also put his name on a Charger. Whooptie Doo! :happy feet: I don't think that was the original discussion, it was more like whether or not the 2007 Shelby is a real Shelby. The answer would be yes or no. I believe it a yes. Was the Charger a Shelby? Yes it was. Was it a Shelby Mustang? Well not it wasn't. Was it a Whooptie Doo, maybe, if it had enough airspeed so it wouldn't stall in the middle of the loop. VNMOUS1
Caroll also put his name on a Charger. Whooptie Doo! :happy feet: Hey Duane, Come back to earth and tie that little Tomahawk down. Shelby (the company, not the club) haws stated that Carroll is proud of his input in this car and feels it is very much a "Shelby". Yes, they will have numbered tags available. As for the registry, SAAC says the GT500 will, in fact, be included. If you'd like, I have written confirmation of that fact, as well as a written statement from Amy at Shelby as to the authenticity and value of the GT500 to Mt Shelby. Anything else is simply your opinion. You are entitled to it, but please understand that it is exactly that....opinion. bj

For your info the new Shelby registery is not out yet but when it is printed it will include all the new Shelby serial# it will be up to the new owners to send in their info on the car i.e name ,mods etc. P.S If you have a new 2007 Shelby Please include your info. you are not obligated to purchase a registery
68fastback
fyi, Here's the link to Amy Boylan's (President, Shelby Autos) answer to my thread question re including GT500 in the Shelby registry: it was always the plan to include it. And here's a link to the poll & thread on this subject in general: all opinions are welcome. I started that poll thread because I was unable to find a difinitive answer. While that thread was cooking, Amy B responded with the answer that it will be included. -Dan
