I have 2 local friends here in the Pacific NW that I have been coaching on the problem.

Both are members here.

Putnamdo's parts were ordered 2 weeks ago. All parts showed up with in one week.

Last month Bad Tonys parts were ordered. They all showed up in 3 days.

On Aug 8th my parts were ordered. They arrived in 3 days.

Bad Tony had a problem with his 6th gear bearing and it took 12 days to get one.

Here's my question.... some have had parts replaced, and some have had entire transmission replaced. What is the actual fix supposed to be?

My parts should be here this week, but I am skeptical. I don't believe any of our dealers actually know what the correct procedure is, and I'd like some clarification myself so they don't screw anything up just because Ford may not have been perfectly clear.

The only reason I got a new tranny was because I was one of the early ones before the rebuild kits were available.

The TSB fix is listed in the TSB. Nickle hub clutch. Pilot bearing. New killer flywheel, and a Tranny re-build kit that replaces the input shaft with a new and improved one and all of the syncros for the gears and seals.

Here's the tranny kit parts list that comes with the tranny kit. I had my original tranny rebuilt with this kit.

If you want the exact repair proceedures to the tranny (instructions) PM me your e-mail and I will send them to you. The PDF file is too big to post.

Grabber, in your talks with some of the Ford people is there any sense of why some cars are not experiencing any difficulties while others have been fixed a couple of times.

All the cars listed in the TSB have the potential for total clutch failure. It's just a matter of time and that time is determined by your driving style and traffic conditions.

Some cars DO NOT have the "Magic Flywheel" that Son of GT mentioned in another post. :hysterical:

IMO the only reasons that some cars are being fixed a couple of times is 2 things.

1) The job was not done right to begin with.

2) There is another part that is not working correctly.

My parts were ordered from Ford on Wed 9/17, all arrived by Mon 9/22. The dealership that ordered the parts couldn't do the tranny rebuild so I drove my car to another dealership close by that could do the work. Should have my car back on 10/1

I started the replacement process under the TSB when I got back from Dearborn. They said they couldn't complete the repair in time for me to take it to Terlingua so I told them I would bring it back after I came back from Texas. They ordered the parts ($5000 worth) and thought they would be in by the time I got back. I got home yesterday, early afternoon and dropped it off. I got a call less than an hour later saying they are still waiting on 2 parts. I was busy catching up on other things so I didn't find out what 2 parts they are waiting for. But I have a question about what $5000 in parts gets you. Does that include a new tranny or just the rebuild kit? And should I be expected to pay any money for this repair (copay, deductible, etc.)?

You get:

Tranny rebuild kit

Clutch

flywheel

pilot bearing

Cost - Nothing

Ok, so stupid question. If ALL these cars will need it eventually, why can we not go to our dealer and demand the parts be ordered? That way we can have them ordered and a time set to install, prior to having partial or total failure?

Becau$e it'$ not a recall $illy. :hysterical:

You have to wonder though.... should those of us without issue hold out? Maybe there is a better fix or kit coming? Look how the solution changed thus far... from what Grabber originally got, to several differing options, to the kit. Who knows, maybe procrastination will pay in this instance??

Dan,

This is why the final fix took 3 months to produce the TSB. It was checked 6 ways to Sunday and then again.

This is the final fix.

Dealer called today, they pulled the tranny and the Slave Cylinder had exploded. Has that happened to anyone else?? They ordered a new one so I should still get the car back tomorrow.

Are you telling me they pulled your tranny and all they are replacing is the CSC bearing (Concentric Slave Cylinder) ?

They need to do that $68 dollar part along with the $5000 TSB.

Hi Grabber, to the best of my knowlege they are doing the full TSB and replacing the CSC bearing. But now you got me thinking, i am going to call in the morning to the dealer to make sure.

I'm with you but the way I see it, until we have the failure of the hiss test, we have no choice but wait, unless Ford does the right thing and ISSUES A RECALL! Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either. I'm only at 600 miles and almost one month and I've just decided to quit worrying about it. I do the hiss test every week or so and just enjoy the car. At 12 months if I still see no clutch grab I'll shoot off a certified letter to the dealer with a copy of the TSB attached just to document it so I'll have something to talk about when the issue shows up some day.
