johnrehder
Hey folks, I just installed the hood strut kit on my 2008 Shelby Gt. No instructions were included but I think I have them installed correctly. The only problem is that they do not hold the hood up. Is there an adjustment on the cylinder? Could someone post a photo of thier install just to be sure I have it right? Thanks all! John

GT500-07
Replace the cylinders/strut with these, they are stronger and better. 6-Speed
The cylinders are bad. Send them back. +1; one or more struts are bad if they cannot hold up a stock hood. Call the vendor and get a replacement kit; you should not have to purchase another brand of struts, plus your struts have a chromed or stainless finish. johnrehder
Thanks guys, I sent an email to Shelby parts. RmGardner
I just recieved my Hood Strut kid Friday last week after being on B.O for 2 mo. Had to call to get instrustions. They emailed them to me. The article in Muistang Monthly said to mount with shaft down. Shelby shows shaft up. Struts are set up to work in different ways. (716) 662- 1900 GSML35150 8 x 18 91mm stroke 670N F Master Lift Carbon Steel Gas Spg I have the Scott Drake kit, bought it last year from SPP. I asked for and followed the SPP instructions for the install, and I have tried it with the gas cylinder mounted up and down. No difference, and my hood will not stay up. I don't see asking for a replacement strut from SPP as a solution. The SPP catalogue says that the strut kit is for the Mustanng GT, which has a lighter hood than the SGT. I don't think the struts failed, but may be underpowered for the task. I still use my prop rod. I called the Endine Corp. as suggested ^ there, and I was disappointed to learn that they do not sell direct to the public. I was given a vendor's number...Kiser Control in Burr Ridge Illinois...800.966.9696. The GSML35150 is the correct part number, I'll do some more checking later today. herpony68
I had hood struts on the last 2 cars-including this one. I got them from MRT and I have never had a problem. Try the ones from MRT, atleast for the shelby GT, I don't know if there is a difference in the 500 hood weight. Oh, and BTW, Hi LULU!!!!

LuLu
I ordered two struts from Kiser Controls Co. @ 15.00 each. It will be two weeks before they arrive for testing, but I'll keep y'all up to date then. I expect them to be stiffer than the Scott Drake units. Contact Maria Gonzales, she knows what this is about. I gave her the Scott Drake sample and she speced it out. Kiser Controls Co. 7045 High Grove Blvd. Burr Ridge IL. 630.920.9171 Master Lift Carbon Steel Gas Spring Part # GSML 35150 8 X 18 91mm stroke Happy motoring! Well...I installed my Kiser replacement struts today, and I got a hood in my face again! Yeah...In my face! Seems this strut upgrade is more than it promised to be. One strut will hold the hood open, two struts will open it for you, once the secondary hood release is activated. Step back, or, get a hood in your face, somewhere around your chin. BTW, these struts fit perfectly, and length can be adjusted if necessary. The cylinders are painted black, but I suspect they can be polished up to look even better than the SPP/Scott Drake brushed aluminum appearance. As I suggested ^ there, IMHO, the SPP/Scott Drake struts are not defective, but merely inefficient in keeping the heavier SGT hood open. I have had the SGT scoop in my hands, and it does add additional weight (maybe 20 pounds?) to the hood, and in exactly the wrong place, the fulcrum of the "see-saw". No wonder it won't stay open? Y'all with complaints of the SPP/Scott Drake kit not performing well are correct. But, I don't think it's defective parts. Rather, underpowered struts for the task. Should SPP/Scott Drake send you a replacement kit and it's not an improved version, you will still have problems. I think my 30 bucks was well spent, just remember to stand back? RmGardner
I too have the Shelby struts and the fall. Think the temp has something to do with it. Warm weather they fall. Call Shelby and they said earlier ones had a proble. Mine are the later ones because I have chrome heads on them. They said they would send me a new pair though. Am going to install them this weekend. Will post later

Thanks! No pics at the present time, sorry I'm not good at that. All I replaced was the gas strut with a more durable unit. Pops right into place and looks no different than the SPP/Scott Drake kit, other than they are painted black. Instructions not required.
