hi to all, another Shelby Gt is in for the stripe recall. i dropped it off this am with much hesitation. the folks at Crown Ford here on Long Island New York have been great but i escorted the service manger to the body shop to go over the project. Shelby sent a new scoop too! the new scoop looks flatter and i have reservations on how flat it will lie on my hood. i told the body shop to use the old scoop if it fit better that the new one. i never had a problem with the old scoop to begin with. i was shocked to discover yesterday when i pulled the hood blanket off that my scoop was riveted down. my car, # 07sgt5456 was a late production so i knew it might be riveted. the shop said they did a couple of shelby"s already with riveted hood scoops so i felt better after that. so, now i wait. they said 2-3 days. i figure more like a week. at least they gave me a loaner, a Ford Fusion (yuk). wish me luck fellas. i felt like i was leaving my child.

Stripes 1" apart all the way down the hood and DO NOT use the washer nozzles for alignment. The stripes fall where they fall in regards to distance from the nozzles. Use center line of hood 1/2" out in either direction total of 1" between the stripes.

Yeah, I wish the dealer knew that when they did my hood stripes. Maybe they'll learn the second time around. :lurk:

Is the new scoop out for a recall now? Also is there a new stripping kit out as well now????

Jim

There is no recall. If you have an issue you should file a warranty claim. If there is some issue with you stripes you should file a claim for that as well. There are improved, over 07, stripes that are shipping now if you need a replacement.

Thanks Jeff. I just had the front bumper and hood done. And was just wandering if these were the new strips that came from Ford Racing. I need the hood, trunk lid and back bummper done and I will be doing a warranty claim Thursday. Thanks.

My hood scoop is still the original and lifted in the rear conor.

Keep you fingers crossed. When you get you car back, make sure you check the spacing between the stripes. Should be 1" the entire length. That where they messed mine up. Good luck.

ok update time. the shop after having the car for 4 days is only now removing the stripes. i have read in other posts that this job is a time consuming one and that my car has to sit for 48 hours to cure the stripes. well, i believe that now. tomorrow is one week that they have had my car and it is nowhere near close to being done. this is very stressful and i wouldnt wish it on anyone. i was assured by the dealership service mgr that he wont allow anything less than a perfect job and i feel comfortable with him. i dont think i will see my car for at least another week. they said they are following the instructions from Shelby to the letter so that is why it is taking longer. one thing i was curious about. The Shelby lettering on the trunk, once the letters are removed, how does one reapply them. the double sided tape on them is custom cut to fit all of the curves of a letter. no way a body shop can duplicate that. Shelby should include new lettering. i envision that being a mess. if Amy is reading, what are yours thoughts on that. oh, the dealer was shipped a predrilled hoodscoop too, that will be an issue too since the holes dont line up. this just keeps getting worse....help me.

My whole job took about 6 business days. I was also concerned about the letters. It looked like on mine they cut 3M double-stick tape to the same size and shape as the letters and just restuck em on. Only problem was they used different color double-stick tape and since the letters "S" and "Y" don't have to be removed to do the stripe re-do, the color behind the letters look different. But its not very obvious unless your looking for it.

i just hung up with the dealer and i am getting pissed. we are on 7 days now and no stripes on the car yet. first i was told on this past Friday that they were lining up the stripes and that the old stripes were off and today, Tuesday, day 7, i am being told "ok , the stripes are off". well, i have been trying to be good and not drive down to the body shop and check on the car but my patience is wearing thin. it looks as though i am not going to get my car till at least Friday of this week which will make it 10 days to do this job if i am lucky. have any of you gone this long to get the stripe redo done? i dont want to be a jerk and go down to the shop but i know i had stripes put on my 2006 gt and it took 1 day. this is a joke.

I don't think by you going down to check on your car would make them think your a jerk. I'd go!!

After going through the stripe/scoop replacement three times so far one thing I have found is that dealerships are scared to death of these cars. I had one actually tell me they would not touch it BECAUSE it was a Shelby and they did not want to be responsible if they messed up!

Good luck as I have had nothing but HELL with dealerships over this except when I allowed Quantum Perf. to take over. It took some time but it was done superbly, for awhile anyway.

Let us know how it all turns out as I am contemplating the latest scoop since the paint is chipping on mine from around the rivets, but am very leary and weary.

Besides, I thought Bud said the new scoops were not coming drilled??

BTW, thank you for starting a CAR related thread! :shift:

well, i figured it would take a while to get this done and i agree that shops are scared to death of doing the stripes. when i spoke to the dealer this am, part of his response was, "i want to get your car out of the shop asap, i have 2 more shelby's i need stripes redone that have to go in". i just get the impression that the body shop, even though they said they had done this before, have no clue what they are doing. i dont mind waiting, if they know what they are doing, i just dont like getting jerked around and being told fables about my car.

ok, went down to the body shop. as i pulled up i saw a crowd inside the shop around my car. they were applying the stripes and man do they look good, and different. the new stripes shelby sent are way shinier than the original dull stripes the car had. they are very nice and looked great. i spent some time with the shop guys and they were very nice and had no problem with me stopping by. they took my cell number and told me they would call me with any questions and would call me when the car was done. they said for sure by friday it would be done. i mentioned to them all of the issues with the new stripes and the wrinkling and such when the rivets are sunk in and i suggested that they cut around the rivet holes on the hood and remove the striping so the rivet doesnt drag the stripe into the hole when the rivets are sunk in. also, they just called and mentioned that the new scoop does not line up with the original rivet holes from the old scoop, which we all knew and i had mentioned this to them. they mentioned that the new scoop holes are off to the left and that they would drill new holes and sink the rivets in. they assured me that the new holes had plenty of meat to catch on to and that the scoop will be secured properly. at this point what choice do i have. i felt comfortable that will do a good job after speaking to them. wait, they just called and the scoop is on and secured. great body shop, they said if they had to replace the hood they would if it doesnt work out. they are gonna let the stripes get warm and dry out and afterwards they are going to polish the entire car and wheel out some light scratches i have and also clean the entire car. so, i will see how good the car looks all cleaned up on Friday. i will keep all updated.

Was the hood off the car? The directions say to remove the hood to make it easier to work the stripes into place and correctly install the scoop. Make sure you measure!!!! 1" apart all the way down!!!
