I saw a black vert GT500 today in my neck of the woods that was driving so slow that a person in a Prius passed him!! Good god man, would you grow a pair already! It was a sickening site and I should have confiscated it on the spot.

Fortunately I was in mine at the time and represented the real GT500 community well. BTW it was not Iceman because this car was completely stock.

Oh no, clueless GT500 owners are definately out there. Case in point:

I walked up to a fellow the other day that pulled into a parking lot driving a Red Stripe (black) package car. Here's how the conversation went...

Nice Red Stripe car!

Huh?

Uh, okay.

It's a Red Stripe package right?

Uh, I think so.

Is it your car?

Yes it is.

Did you buy it new?

Yes I did.

From which dealer?

Uh....you know the big one out in the valley that located at Roscoe Blvd and the 405 Fwy?

Yeah, Galpin Ford, the biggest Ford dealer west of the Mississippi.

Yeah, I think that's the one.

Well, I do you mind if I point out a couple of flaws with your car?

Really, flaws? Like what?

Well, if this is a true Red Stripe GT500 and not a stripe delete car that was modified by GAS with red stripes, then you need to take it back to them and ask them why your fender badge snakes and grille snake do not have red highlights in them.

Really?

Yes, really.

Would Galpin do that, and what's a stripe delete car?

Oh yes, Galpin most definately would, and a stripe delete GT500 is a car that came from the factory devoid of all stripes.

Do you still have your window sticker at home?

What's that?

Nevermind, may I look inside?

Yeah, sure go ahead.

Well, you should also have Red Cobra's embossed in your floor mats, those are plain black mats.

Really?

Yes really.

You do know that if this is a true Red Stripe car that its a rare car, right? Only so many red stripe cars were made in 2007 and 2008.

No, I didn't know that; how do you know all this stuff?

Trust me I do, and we don't have enough time now to discuss how and why I know this stuff, but I do.

Do you own one of these?

Yes I do, and it's been Super Snaked.

What's Super Snaked?

No time to explain it to you in detail right now; let's just say that it's an extensive performance package that is installed by Shelby Automobiles.

Okay, thanks for the information; I'll contact the dealer next week...

Somehow I just didn't get the impresson that he will; but I could be wrong.

:nonono: CLUELESS!!!!!

Did you happen to ask him what he did for a living? Maybe he is a car salesman? :hysterical:

Actually I really LIKE driving mine slow on public streets. I've got nothing to prove to a Prius owner; except that I respect the law.

One definition of grace is the ability to delicately control power (ie: "ease or supplenes of movement....") It's difficult to be graceful without power but impossible to be graceful without restraint.

The only place I am concerned about being fast is the race track. But I still want to be graceful doing it.........

+1 sprint.

although i still find it "extremely" difficult to keep this thing within the speed limit and often times don''t..., it is sooooo comforting to know what power lies beneath. it oozes of confidence (not over confidence). there is nothing to prove but at the same time everything to be confident about! man i love this car! it is an experience everytime i get in it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he should be tearing-up asphalt 20+ over the speed limit. I agree that racing is for the tracks and roads are for respect. But come on, when a Prius owner whips out into the left lane and glares at the GT500 owner as he goes by....well, that just wrong!!! :hysterical:

Hey, maybe he was in limp-home mode!! Ya never know...

You really are a glass half-full kind of guy! :hysterical: I suppose that was a possibility, but he did turn around and go back the way he came. It appeared he was out for a nice relaxing Sunday drive. As a result, we now probably have a Prius owner on his Forum claiming to have "killed" at GT500!!!

Classic! Just as the dealers have to register to sell these beasts, there should be a quiz for every prospective buyer before they take possession! If you don't pass, the dealer should just say "Thanks for trying, come again!"

They need the test for the sales people too! Two salesmen at this dealership were 100% sure that our cars went to Vegas prior to coming to the dealership!

Maybe he just recently got popped and got a pricey ticket.

These cars are built to drive hard and that's how I drive mine.... unless I get a ticket, then I take it slow for about a day.

After my ticket, I really did change my driving habits. I realized my pricey radar/laser detector didn't make me invincible and I decided not to hack up the front grill to install a laser jammer. Oh well, getting up to the speed limit is still a lot of fun!

I wonder how many of these cars are being driven by "Sunday drivers" never to get a chance to breathe on a track or deserted country road.

Very odd - I saw a black GT500 vert with chrome roll bars installed (the top was down). I was doing about 75 in a 65 (ambient speed), and this guy could not have been doing more than 50. He was a rolling traffic jam, and not in a good way - cars were hitting the brakes and blowing horns and making dangerous lane changes to get around him. When I got there I was pretty stunned to see it was a GT500.

Maybe he didn't know how to shift? What a zero.

+1

Today I had to bring my car to get a paint repair(for the second time as they didn't do it right the first time) and I had my father in-law following me for the thirty mile highway trip. He didn't know where he was going so I couldn't lose him and he does the speed limit in his Saturn. I stayed in the right lane at 65 the whole time as cars were flying buy in the left. Extremely frustrating.

I often drive this car 2-4 mph under the speed limit on our main 55 mph road here, most people like to match up in the left lane so you can't pass. I like going really slow in a 600 hp Shelby GT500 in the right lane. Seems to really piss some people off, usually shitheads in big pickup trucks. Then when I get on the interstate here I do about 140 mph, given the right conditions.

maybe that gt 500 owner was following his little yellow arrow where the speedometer is,so he can get better fuel economy than the prius. :hysterical:

It's so funny that this subject came up today because this afternoon I saw some schmuck in a red 'vert doing the same asenine crap.

I'm on a freeway with a speed limit of 60, ALL of us are doing about 65-70 depending on the lane position. This guy enters the freeway and does 60 almost on the nose. I recognized it right away as a GT500, and thought when he saw me blow by in the left lane that he might want to play a little bit. Nope, he looked over (middle aged guy) and just kept crawling along slower than every other car on the road.

It was shameful. I say again... why yhe hell would anyone buy a 500hp car and drive it like a Pinto???

I have a spinster aunt named Grace, she drives ridiculously slow too. Not sure if she's into restraints.
