easyjet
As I anticipate picking up my new GT500 next week, I have a couple questions you guys probably know the answers to: 1) what "factory settings" are in place relative to the supercharger (I have been told it does not kick in until you pass 100 miles on the odometer)? Are there other time or mileage-related settings? 2) do I need to vary RPMs for the first XXX miles to break in the engine? Thanks for any help. TopCat501
Congrats on the GT500! What color combo did you get? I bet you're pumped. I remember I was, when it got close the anticipation was unreal and it was so sweeet when I first caught a glimpse of the car as I drove into the dealership. It's almost been a year now but I remember it just like it was yesterday. Anyway, no it only takes about 5 continously driven miles before the factory "de-tune" is disabled. Here's the official word from FORD about it. "Your Shelby GT500 Power Train Control Module (PCM) strategy contains a feature to limit supercharger boost pressure and engine speed to 4000 RPM for the first five consecutive miles of vehicle operation or 50 engine start / warm up cycles. This feature is enabled prior to shipment. If neither of these conditions have been satisfied prior to customer delivery, full power will not be available" There are no other "time" or "mileage" factory contraints that you need to worry about. Everybody has their own opinion about how to drive during "break-in". I believe the manual states that you don't need to do anything special because modern engines just don't require it. But I say better safe than sorry so for the first 500 miles I did try to vary the RPMs and never went over 4000 RPMs. Just seemed like good common sense to do that. BTW, I also put in a magnetic oil drain plug on the 1st oil change to capture any nasty metal shavings that are most likely to occur when the engine is new. If you haven't already got them, you might enjoy downloading and reading the Owner's manual before you get your car. just click on the DOWNLOAD button on this site (be sure and get the GT500 Owner Supplement) Welcome to the club! It's one heck of a ride! :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet:
thewheelman
Congratulations! I know you can't wait! Here's the best break-in advice I can give--I've had my GT 500 24 days now and it seems like each one I find something new to marvel at on the car. But, here's what you need to do--when you leave the dealership go directly to the closest local drug store, walgreens, whatever and buy yourself a large container of vaseline, get a big gob on your finger and rub it over your teeth and gums......that will keep them from drying out because you're grinning so much! Have fun!

1badshelby
My dealer told me the car was limited until 500 miles, NOT WHAT THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS, anyway, I could tell that it was all there. It had 11 miles on the clock when I took delivery. It is awesome!!!! Mike

rheller
If you don't live too far away, have your salesman phone you as soon as the delivery truck shows up so that you can be there prior to the dealer prep. Make sure you confirm there is no damage to the front from uploading and downloading the car from the truck. Ensure your owner's manual, locking lug nuts, and Nav System package with disk (if a selected option) are all present. Should the dealership offer your the first oil change for free, make sure there are no strings attached. They just might try and charge you the difference between a standard oil change and a SVT oil change when you check out at the cashier, which is what happened to me. Good luck and enjoy! Thanks for the advice and well-wishing from all. I am pumped, to say the least. My car is a black coupe with the red appearance option and I have already ordered the first personalized plate ever for me...WILBYTU. I enjoy reading this forum and soon I may be able to contribute.
