HORSBYT
I'm not a huge audiophile and I may be suffering from some tone defness from all the years of blistering guitars and loud music, but in my humble opinion the Shaker system sounds like crap. Has anyone switched out their stock speakers? Did it sound better? What did you go with? If ya take a peek under the rear deck lid you'll see those sorry Ford 5x7's in there. The same thing are in the door except for the woofer. HELP!
89Saleen215
I replaced the head unit with one from Kenwood and I got the ability to actually ADJUST the subwoofer volume...that really woke them up! The biggest fun is reducing the 12v amp lead down to 5v for the factory amps.
mikewheels
I think it sounds O.K. with the speakers set to rear and compression set to "on". Seems to fire the door subs better. I just read in one of the Mustang mags that JL Audio has a set of replacement speakers and amp that are supposed to sound good. Also Rockford Fosgate has a plug n play sub set-up for the trunk that you can add.

I thought compression was for playing MP3's only? I believe it has no affect on Sat/FM/CD?
clark17357
A number of us bought these speakers a while back. Those who have installed them say the improvement is profound. I have not put mine in yet. You can check out the thread here: http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php...amp;hl=speakers I thought I saw on another thread that the speakers may not be available any longer. Worth checking into. Jim

HELP! +1 on the sorry 5x7s...my right passenger door speaker is making some weird noise, I guess since I still warranty I'll go get it swapped out but when the warranty is over I'm going to upgrade also, My shaker 1000 is ok, I think that my brother's Lexus audio system is much cleaner....and his trunk does not rattle like mine when I have my music cranked up....I guess I'd have to look into that dynamat thing.... Finally got around to putting them in and I was shocked at the difference in quality of these vs. the stock speakers. No comparison imo. Once installed I fired it up to some Fleetwood Mac and was shocked again at how much better the sound qaulity was! Now it sounds like it should have from the beginning. Craig Craig, So was it hard to install by yourself, how long? Does it matter if one has the 500 or 1000 system, was it just plug and play? SGT/SC2873
Craig, So was it hard to install by yourself, how long? Does it matter if one has the 500 or 1000 system, was it just plug and play? Thanks just time....removing door panels and rear shelf package. Took me probably a total of couple hours. Speakers fit right up in stock location perfectly and plug/play. I don't think there are any differences in the door speakers and the rear shelfs between the 500/1000. I have the 1000 and I think the only differnce is the sub. I can tell you the speakers we have from oem are not high quality....Craig

SGT#3670
If anyone wants to get rid of their stock head unit and speakers please send them my way. I would love to have a shaker 500 for the 2006 GT that I am working on. Single CD player and no MP3 player in it sucks! Adam

The Shaker 500 in my 08 GT/SC sounds like crap as well. NO way these are the same speakers. I am going to check to see if Amp and all speakers are hooked up, but the sound is pathetic and got even worse when I played music from my ipod as ended up turned the ipod off. I took the same ipod and played it in my 08 F350 and it sounded good so something wrong with the whole system in the 08 Mustang.
HORSBYT
Well those speakers you all got were a deal! However, as noted they're all gone. Crutchfield has some nice 5x7's so i'm going to go that route. I don't want to swap the head as I don't think that is the problem. I was a little dismayed at the lack of "tuneability" of it, but I think speakers may be ther right combo. Cheaper to swap speakers first.... Thanks for the feedback, now I know it's not just me! 89Saleen215
Having bought and installed the above posted speakers I can tell you it didn't do a whole lot for me. The biggest change was selling the factory head unit and putting in the Kenwood DDX512 and having the subwoofer adjustability. Before this I was seriously considering putting in a powered sub in the trunk like the Shaker 1000. The head unit really does make a difference in these cars. JeffIsHereToo
Don't forget all! If you use an MP3 CD, iPod, or CD created using an MP3, your cheapest and maybe best bet is to go back and ensure you ripped the music at a good bit rate! All the head unit and speaker changes in the world is not going to make a 64bit or VBR MP3 sound any better. If you want a good sound encode at 256 or higher, if you have the hard drive space, Apple does an amazing job with 128bit ACC, but ACC is a higher fidelity format. For those of us ripping into MP3 you need 256 as a minimum, IMHO! Anything else is a waste of great hardware. MESSAGE: RIP AT 256k BITS OR HIGHER, CHEAPEST SOUND SYSTEM UPGRADE YOU CAN BUY! I was going to mention this as well when I was reading all the mp3 stuff, though I tend to use 192 as a bitrate to compromise sound quality and file size. To add to the topic, I really want to replace my speakers (which I will do soon) and the head unit, only problem is, when I bought the car it had built in Sirius, which was activated. It is STILL activated, so being the cheap ass I am, I don't want to exchange the unit when I have fully functioning satellite radio that either someone else paid for, or it was for a promotion or something. Stereo sounds fine to me so far, not high end but that's not what I expected. It is definitely better than any other factory stereo I've ever heard. Hey if you're happy...I don't think my ear is good enough to tell the difference anyway when I'm always playing MP3s so in my mind all the rest of this stuff is overkill. IMHO!
