BoneDoc
I needed an excuse to drive my car last weekend, so i took it into work (Denver) to pick up a few paper from my office. On the way back, I saw a cop behind me and was delighted that I actually was going the speed limit at the time...... The cop pulled me and with a serious look on his face asked me "so tell me.... was it worth it?" not sure what he meant, but he didn't seem too friendly. I replied "what do you mean?"..... He said, "the GT 500, was it worth it? I hear they're kinda expensive!" He finally cracked a smile and I told him "worth every dime..... now all i have to do is keep a lookout for you guys....." we had some back and forth conversation about the car . He then told me he is proud owner of a 2004 Terminator and he would 'never' give me a ticket in this car! after a change of underwear, i crept home in my GT500! that makes 2 WHOLE WEEKS i have not gotten a ticket in this car! Headin' for a record anyone else on the site ticketed yet? I wonder who has the record? Fess up, now!

JETSOLVER
:bandance: :happy feet: :bandance: :happy feet: That is the story I have been waiting 18 months to hear/read about. Back in March 94, after having made almost 7 payments on a car I had never seen my then new SN95 GT came in and I took 3 days of leave., I made a pilgramge to Wyoming to drive as fast as I could(they had that unlimited "reasonable and prudent for conditions" speed limit for a while). As a Canadian, I pretty much myself when the state trooper pulled out in front of me on a straight stretch,(I could see him for a mile), and prepared to explain to my chief warrent officer why I was in an American jail.(NOT GOOD!!) He walked up and asked if he could see under the hood, and we spent about 20 minutes by the side of the highway, shooting the , he wanted to see the owners manual, he sat in it, and I offered him a drive.(like I would tell ) He said no I can't leave my post sort of thing, and told me to cool my jets(airforce vet, I was new in at the time) and go home safe. One of the best days of my life.... Thanks good memories, Nice to know that happy days are here again...

Headin' for a record anyone else on the site ticketed yet? I wonder who has the record? Fess up, now! Well, as for the "record" of the FIRST one in a GT500....I'll bet that's me. Picked up the car 8/5/06. Drove it nearly 500 miles home with lots of looks and "thumbs up", but not one "stop" althought I was varying the speed, up to 85, all the way home. Two weeks after getting it (and a mere 5 days after that ***hole chucked a rock on my hood) I was driving from here in the west burbs of Chicago to a tiny hamlet just south of Rockford for a dyno run. It's about 95 miles (I know....but the guy's a 'Stang specialist/tuner/racer, so it was worth it). So, I'm heading up scenic I-39 north, BEL RX65 in full auto mode, at about 80. Cars were blasting past me like I was sitting still. Knowing I was piloting a cop magnet, I hung out in the right lane and nearly wrapped my arms around my right leg so I couldn't nail the throttle. As I topped a hill, I saw 5 Illinois State Police vehicles on the onramp on my side. I let off, told my wife I was glad we had the detector on...and cruised past. The covey of Maximas, Impalas and Civics that were swarmping me were all slamming on the brakes hard enough to take the paint of the bottom of the bumper. Seconds later, I have a trooper behind me, clearly targeting me to pull over. I did so, got out my license, registration and insurance and rolled down the window. Those infamous words of "do you know why I stopped you" no soon left his lips when I (in semi-smartass mode) said "because you hadn't seen one of these and wanted a closer look?" Fast forward: Airborne measurement. (all the cars around me were beige, silver, white, etc.....virtually invisible from 2000 feet where there's a bright red with white stripes in the pack) He wrote the ticket, and we were off. It made for fun conversation once we found out the car made over 463rwph on the dyno. I felt like I had been shooting tin cans with a 44 magnum. If I was gonna get stopped, it should have been for something serious. BTW 80.7 in a 65 was the citation. I went to court yesterday (another 180 miles round trip...but I'm an ex-cop and I'll be damned if I was getting point assessed for this). So, no points, a small fine and 6 mos "supervision" (that's Illinois' version of probation and it simply means if there's not another citation in 6 mos, no points are assessed and the arrest basically goes away). Sounds like a deal to me! bj

wildosvt
I was pulled over yesterday too!!! I was driving and noticed the cop, I asked my brother in law who was riding with me "Whats the speed limit again?" He says "30MPH" "Oh we are cool then, doing a little over 25" So we drive down and make a left on the next street. Bam the officer flips the lights on. I pull over turn off the engine. "You know you were doing 40 over there?" I started to argue at first (because I knew I was'nt!), But said I cannot argure with you and handed my lisence. He looks at it and says "Don't worry Im not writing you a ticket" (??????) His next question was "So when did you get it". (Told him all sorts of shit) I told him if I would be able to get off clean if I popped the hood? So I did he was real cool and then his radio goes off. "Damn, We gotta go someone is being robbed" (This is the honest truth!) All I could think of is the wife the whole time.........

ColdwaterHotrod
Airborne measurement? They actually had a plane in the air? I have beat every single airborne measurement ticket I have ever gotten (thats 3 by the way). In the States of Michigan & Indiana (and with a Lawyer) The state law says the the Cop that sees or witnesses you breaking the Law must be the one to write you the ticket or citation. Now unless they have new planes where they can stop traffic on the highway & land that plane right then & now to write the ticket, it's Illegal for another cop to be called on a radio from another cop to issue you a ticket that didn't see you commit the violation. Another thing the Lawyer said was that they are moving in plane at "X" number of feet at what ever speed looking down at road markers painted on the road & they use a stop watch to time you as you go past those marks & for that to be remotely accurate they would need to be in one spot in the sky & not moving or flying in this case. What they are doing is (using a stop watch) and that is HUMAN CONTROLLED which can be munipulated by being a second or 2 late at the start of the timimg run & a second early at the end to make it look like you were going 2-3 seconds faster in a marked 1/8th mile or what ever the distance is they use. Which makes this method UNCALIBRATABLE for REAPEATABILITY! Needless to say the Lawyers cost were justified each time because it would have costed me more over a 5 year time span with raised insurance premiums than it would have to pay the lawyer his rates. I was in court once and saw a kid get convicted for driving 56mph in a 55mph zone. I coundn't believe it! I have had both good and bad experiences with them. I also saw a doctor, who said he was on his way to an emergency surgery at the trama center, get convicted for going ten over. I wonder how the judge would have felt if that was his family on the operating table? I have beat every single airborne measurement ticket I have ever gotten (thats 3 by the way). I got a pass once on a Vascar ticket for discussing some of the same points. Vascar was a human controlled device with a large margin of error. Fortunately they don't use it anymore. I think your right about the margin of error in VNMOUS case. 80.7 sounds like quite a precise measurement from somebody flying at 80 mph 2000 feet away. NickeH
I had my car delivered to my workplace last friday. As I was finishing up (in a hurry, wanted to DRIVE my car so bad!) my wife called me and said that the cops were pulling cars over on the highway to where we live. I told her I thought it was typical that they were doing this today and because I had refused to let them drill any holes in the front of the car I had no front numberplate, as is required by law. The fine for driving without one has now been raised to $200, we're talking about Sweden now guys! Well, the car was parked behind the building where I work and to get out you have to drive through some gates. So I drive out through the gates and stop the car to close them (I had driven about ten FEET!) and as I go back to the car a motorcylcle cop pulls up! So I immidiately start to make excuses as to why I dont have a numberplate but he just looks at me... Then he says; "I just wanted to look at your car"! So I show him the car and talk to the guy for about ten minutes before he leaves! As he is leaving I tell him that I will drive carefully then he looks at me and says; "Suuure..." True story! And I wasn't fined! :happy feet: :happy feet: Can anyone beat that!?

And in response to Coldwater's info....yes, you're absolutely right about not being repeatable and that being the fly in the VASCAR ointment. Thats said, I could (a) spend the dough for an attorney and get completely off on the charge or (B) do what I did by paying far less than an attorney's fees and still not having points assessed. Same diff....only much cheaper. The county seat (and location of the county courthouse) was Oregon, IL. 4,000 people and a damned fine, brand spankin' new "justice" building. I stepped into the courtroom and it looked like something from a major city. So, guess how much luck I'd have had blowing this out of the water without a high-priced mouthpiece. Two very-wet-behind-the-ears ass't prosecutors were doing a roll call to sign in everyone on the docket. After I'd signed in and talked to them about pleaing the case, I quietly asked one of them if the state troopers generally show up (obviously my get outta jail free card). He said "sometimes" and I thought it would be worth my while to hang onto my plea til the last minute. THEN, I found out that (as opposed to many one-stop courts) these yahoos were dealing with my appearance as an arraignment! So, even if the cop(s) didn't show, I couldn't get a dismissal, only a carryover to trial. CRAP! I didn't want to screw with another 200 mile roundtrip to Hooterville, so I played the plea card. All in all...a nice drive and a lot cheaper and cleaner than the alternatives. bj
b17drvr
I was on the Highway last week in the Shelby and every thing was clear, detector was silent, and I was cruising in the left lane on a beautiful day. I noticed in the far distance behind me the headlight of a motorcycle in the left lane. I looked in the mirrror again a couple of seconds later and this motorcycle is approaching fast. I looked at my speedo and I 'm doing 90 "ish". At first I think it is a kid on one of those hot bikes coming up to mess with me. And then he gets close and I recognize the Hariis County Sheriffs Dept uniform--and boy his shirt was really flapping in the breeze! I'm busted! He ha not turned on the red lights yet, but I go ahead and move to the right lane to pay my debt to society and he moves from behind me to my left side and mouths the words "nice car" to me and drives on. My lucky day.

In Michigan it's not offered, But in Indiana it is in most courts, unfortunetly I found that out on case #3 in Indiana the 1st two were in Michigan. The lawyer was a friend of mine & it only costed $200 per case & like you said to ask for a jury trial just makes the court system want to deal with you even more so they don't waste money, time & face when they loose over a human controlled device like a stop watch to a jury. towsurfmonkey
Just remember. The cops probably want a car like this just as bad as we do. Awsome Story!!! I live in Hawaii and the cops here drive their own personnal cars (lots of GTs a couple of Cobras, Camaros, GTO's etc... ) with a strap on blue light for the roof and a couple of blue lights in the grill area, radio and siren installed by their Dept... The very day I picked my new beast from the pier (07 GT500 Black/Tungsten), I took it home and immediately installed my awaiting FRPP axle backs and then my wife and I were cruising around breaking it in when we came up over this hill doing about 60 in a 45 and there it was.... DUI ROADBLOCK! And there was not one car stopped there ( a whole shi*load of bored cops just standing in the middle of the road!). So I downshift and apply the brakes as inconspicuous as possible trying not to be obvious about my speed and all eyes were upon me. About 8 cops standing in the middle of the road just waiting for me to pull up... So I roll down the windows and cruise up real slow (the female cop just gave me the meanest stink eye and motioned for me to pull all the way up to the last officer in the roadway. Not having a front license plate (Just a black and silver FORD emblem plate in the front and my temporary paper plate in the rear) I new they thought they had me at least for a no front plate violation (Oh yea, I did have just one beer before leaving the house ... just to celebrate of course), and I know they could here my exaust as I downshifted and slowed to a stop. Then I was surrounded on all sides with cops with this amazed look in their eyes and one of them says "Shelby?" I said yea and he said "Didn't know they still made these cars." I said they just started making them again in 07 and that this was the first one on the island. Another cop says "How many horses?" and I proudly replied "500 and a six speed to boot!" One cop says "wow" and the other one says "Damn, how much are these going for? I said about 50-60 and the older guy who is in the traffic enforcement division (strictly highway DUI and speeding enforcement) says, better not let me catch ya, I'll be looking for you out there." I said "I SURE HOPE NOT!" (with a big smile), then traffic started backing up behind me and they let me go (most of them smiling) so we took off giving them a little taste of the Borla FRPP Stingers as I ran through the gears up to about 50. I bet word got out and there must be several cops here trying to get their hands on one right this minute. I gotta tell you guys this car is truly awesome, I've owned the following (bought these when they were brand new) - two turbo '87 Buick Grand Nationals, an '89 Iroz Z- 350, a '92 Black Z-28 350 and I have also owned a 69 Plymouth GTX 440, a 69 Charger 383 and several other muscle cars ( I was a cop for about 10 years in Honolulu and since quit)... this car simply makes them all look silly performance wise. I pulled out onto the street (hot and dry sunny day) from a warehouse the other day and gave it about half throttle and got the car sideways without even trying and then shifted into second gear and the rear tires were just screaming and starting to smoke (That my friends was WITH the traction control ON). I only have about 400 miles on it now and I can't wait to cut it loose with the traction control off and really see what it will do. I've had it up to 130 so far (love the whine of the supercharger and yes I can hear it over the FRPP exaust) and the car feels like it's just glued to the road. I have absolutely no complaints so far about this car (other than the already mentioned in this forum "brake fluid leak" on the master brake resovoir which was resolved by removing about 20 cc of fluid). I truly simpathize with you guys waiting for your cars... It seemed like an eternity just sitting around waiting for mine to arrive but it is more than worth the wait. You guys will be in high speed heaven soon enough. Now I must go, I have to finish breaking her in and soon I will be ordering a custom tune (and hopefully a C.A.I.) from Justin at VMP tuning.... Oh yea, check out the new radar jammer/detector "system" at this link here www.jammercity.com/site/569701/product/RMR-8RDS it will certainly pay for itself many times over in fines, points and insurance premium increases and I am a true believer since I currently have several of their products and they have saved my a** numerous times in the past. CHEERS! Cool story. Thanks for posting. I've wondered what driving in Hawaii was like. Does it cost more to ship a new car to there?
towsurfmonkey
Cool story. Thanks for posting. I've wondered what driving in Hawaii was like. Does it cost more to ship a new car to there? Thanks, It costs about $1000-1200 to ship a car from the West Coast but I purchased mine from a dealer in Honolulu (their 1st of only two 07's) so it cost me about $440 to ship mine from Honolulu to the island I live on (strapped it down myself onto a steel pallet and then put two car covers over it to protect it from the salt that will get on it during shipping). I did this so nobody at the docks could jump in and do burnouts in it for me before I got it! The only other option (about $330) would have been to drive to the dock and hand them my keys and say goodbye to her for about 3 days until they got it here and then again they would drive it off the barge and into their storage lot (which is known to have figure 8's and lots of fresh rubber on the blcktop there). Embalmer
All in all...a nice drive and a lot cheaper and cleaner than the alternatives. bj I happen to live about 20 miles SW of Oregon and I've seen numerous "stings" on I-39 heading up to Rockford as well as I-88 West of Rock Falls. I'm in Oregon all the time on business. I can honestly say, Illinois State Police are almost 100% likely to ticket you if they pull you over. The local/county cops are more reasonable, especially if you know them personally. I've been pulled over by Lee County deputies 3 times for speeding (once 80 in a 55) and have not been ticketed yet, mostly I suppose because I work with them sometimes. My wife is the supervisor of court document storage in Lee County and we know the States Attorneys. It's a shame they didn't get you 10 miles south of there. If you're ever in the area again, look me up at Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Jones Funeral Homes
