automatic door locks

I don't have anything specific for you, but I had an aftermarket remote start/alarm system installed on my 1997 F150 several years ago, and it is programmable to automatically lock the doors after a normal remote unlock, entry, and key insertion sequence.

The system is called a Sidewinder and it includes a motion/noise sensor and long-range antenna that lets it work from 300-600 feet away. The installation was pretty messy as far as wiring it into the factory wiring, though, and I don't think I could do that to the GT500. Ford, however, may offer something very similar for dealer install.

Since I bought my Shelby GT500 as a daily driver, I have been looking for a way to have my door lock when I turn on the ignition or when car starts moving. Any suggestions?

My wife's 2005 V6 door locks automatically once the car is in motion. My former '05 GT did not. Never figured out the difference. Programming??

Also, would like to hear from anyone in southwest Houston/Richmond area..

Much good luck to you. Hope you're not in Houston right now. Ike will be making landfall very soon....

I lived in SW Houston (Meadows) and worked near Richmond / Briarpark but that was in 1992....

I'm the opposite. Mine locks both sets of doors when the car starts moving (>5MPH?). I wish I could disable it. Maybe it can be "programmed off", but I couldn't find it in the owners manual. My truck was able to override some of these silly things.

Page 84 of my 2008 Mustang Owner's Guide has the procedure for enabling/disabling this feature. But, it says for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission.

I tried to enable the auto-lock feature on my GT500 6-sp, and the horn indicated the precedure was completed, but a quick trip around the circle drive didn't lock the doors.

Anybody have any more insight? Can the dealer do it to a manual transmission GT500??

Your GT500 locks both doors when you reach appx 5 MPH? If so , then it must be programmable.

My GT 500 locks the doors just as I get it rolling.....I thought they all did it.

Wow! Preproduction non-standard side scoops and non-standard door lock function!

looked up in ford service manuels=auto lock feature only availiable on auto trans vehicles as it needs a mlp signal for in gear reference, the only way would be an after market alarm system.

Thanks for looking it up in the manual; sounds like it agrees with the Owner's Guide.

I wonder if there would be a way to put a jumper in at an unused wiring connector block to give the right mlp signal for in gear, without confusing the computer.

Our F150, Explorer, and Lincoln LS all auto-lock the doors, so it would be a nice feature to have. But, then, I would want the TCS to default to off, too, so I didn't have to think about anything but buckling up and driving away without chattering the clutch.

I went on a book reading mission yesterday. I was able to disable the auto locks but I do have the automatic.

You can also disable that annoying seat belt dinger, but boy is it complicated. One maneuver requires you to drive at moderate speed and unplug/replug the seat belt something like 9 times in 30 seconds. I was in the driveway and didn't want to back on the road, so decided to skip it. I think there might have been a step that also involved head patting and tummy rubbing too so I think I'll just buckle the belt. I do it anyway, given a 'vert is a perfect people launcher, and it doesn't matter if the top is up or down.

I don't know....I just know I never hit the lock button and it really frustrates me when I get out of the car and walk around to the passenger side to get something out and it's locked!

I think that this answers my prior question (whether mine was a pre-production or not)...I've tried to enable the autolock feature, it does not work. I would prefer if they would lock automatically.

I noticed you said "the passenger door" is always locked. The reason your passenger door is locked is that when you unlock the car you have to hit the button twice to unlock the passenger door. I bet your door (driver's door) is always unlocked--unless you unlocked. Check it out.

Yeah, I'm thinking, I never hear the locks lock--like I do in the F-150 (or any other car with automatic locks) so I'm still wondering if I'm just unlocking the driver's door with the remote, driving it home and then trying to open the passenger door that's never been unlocked.....I guess I had gotten so used to the auto locks (like the auto light feature) that I'm spoiled!
