I-10 westbounders for Terlingua

Anyone interested in caravaning west on I-10 from the Houston area, here is the scoop:

On Wed. Sept 24, we are

Leaving 7:00am Krogers parking lot at FRY Rd and park row (North side of I10)

turn right on Fry go 1 block

We will make a pit stop in San Antonio at:

Lulu's Cafe at Main and I-35. (918 N. Main San Antonio, TX 78212)

Here we will eat a late breakfast, early lunch, fuel up and join those from SA and Austin.

Then, as far as I know, we are taking Hwy 90 to Alpine although that could change to taking I-10 . Hoping to get there in the late afternoon. We are staying at the Holland Hotel. They have a micro brewery in the lobby for our entertainment :)

www.hollandhotel.net. Book your rooms now.

On Thursday morning, the 25th, all caravans will merge in Alpine to become one Texas size parade of Shelbys into Terlingua :happy feet:

Post up here in this post so we know who all to expect at FRY Rd.

Thanks

Sherri, do we have a rough number from Houston? I may provide escort from the rest stop at mile marker 591. If it is only going to be a few cars though, it is an unneeded expense.

Dubbs,

I'm a little worried. Haven't heard from Sherri since the Hurricane. Power might still be out.

Yep, indeed. Hope they are allright.

Hi,

Just spoke with Sherri on her cell. She says it's a real mess down there. They have no power and are boiling water on the BBQ. She relates it to forced camping. They plan to head to Terlingua as scheduled, given the power is restored.

Left a post on the Ike thread on off-topic. I have been texting Sherri now and then on the way back. This morning she reports that they still have no power and sporadic cell service. She has concerns for Don O'Brien (cobrafan) who lives in Beaumont and also slated to go to Terlingua. He is on of the few that didn't give me a contact phone number. She says he still had problems from Gustav 2 weeks prior to Ike slamming them. If someone in that area can check on him, please do.

I was going to ask if anyone had heard from cobrafan. I also have no contact info for him; but the guys at Quantum Performance do. Maybe Glenn Martini could try to contact him. Hopefully, he's one of the evacuees and is safe and sound. As for his home and business, Beaumont was hit pretty hard.

I'm back :) I do not know how many are caravaning from here. We need a roll call.

We arrive in San Antonio on the 24th at 8.20 PM. Start driving from there but won't make the Holland hotel after a 10 hr flight. Sherri, we can caravan back to Houston with you on Sunday. We leave on monday evening from IHA.

Good to hear you back, Sherri! :happy feet:

Hope yall came out of this without too much damage...

I lived in Bellaire (inside Houston)for about the last decade, but moved back home to SA in 2005. TS Allison left me with a flood Ill never forget...i cant imagine what Ike was like.

Let me know if you need anything.

Sherri,

Glad you made it !

It was rough over here on the West side of Houston as well but we made it.

We have many trees down and roof damages in the neighborhood.

I now have power and phone.

Count me in on the "Westbounders" roll call, Im good with meeting at fry rd at whatever time works best for others.

I am trailering my 1968 Convertible with a 22ft enclosed trailer and have my reservations at Holland in Apline.

I'll be leaving Seguin about 9AM on the 24th, taking 90 all of the way to Alpine. I doubt anyone will want to be caravannng with me, I'll be driving a black GMC 4500 Crew Cab pickup towin a 40 foot gooseneck race trailer. I was really hoping to fit both a Cobra and the GT500 in the trailer, but the Mustang is just too long, the 289 isn't finished yet, so it looks like it will be the 427 only.

So, as y'all pass me at Mach 2, honk & wave. I'll get there in due time.

Also, my trailer has a pretty full complement of hand & air tools, air compressor and jacks. I'm sure someone will need something at the track events.

What motel is everyone staying at in Alpine?

meet up with us in SA for breakfast?

I'm about 55 feet long and have to be really careful where I go with this rig. I don't think I can get into Lulu's or even get around those surface streets. I'd better pass on breakfast.

I got my reservation at The Holland Hotel this afternoon, thanks Patrick.

THE SHELBY IS FINE, oh yea, we also made it through IKE. Shelby road the storm out in Mustang Oklahoma.

Sorry, no reliable internet access, I couldn't communicate. This has taken me over an hour to write and post. I'm using the verison wireless that works through cell phone, which is a joke. I get perhaps 45 seconds at a time and get kicked locked out and dropped.

We had all five restaurants down and the house took three trees. No structrual damage, but a big mess. We were also shut down for Gustov 10 days before Ike with a mandatory evacuation which cost us another week's sales as well as losing a bunch of our employees. My partner stayed in Fort Worth to co-ordinate the administration and logistics of getting the stores back on line. I was the boots on the ground. Next time I want to do the office work!

The last store came up at 3:00 Sunday. I was able to get the health inspector, fire marshall, electrical inspector, and mechanical inspectors out on Sunday for final inspections and then get a delivery of groceries.

It looks I will be going to Terlingua. My partner is back in town, full power, cable, internet, somehow this 50 - 50 deal seems a little one sided. At 59 I'm to old for this.

My plans were to haul my car starting on Tuesday to get perhaps as far as Alpine. Haul the Shelby down to Terlingua on Wednesday to leave the trailer and return back to Alpine in the Shelby for the festivities and caravan on Thursday. I'll try to get a room later this morning.

The good news is my wife, a college senior, will be able to join us as Lamar University will not start till Thursday, but I'm sure they will make allowances for those still out of town. For those that picked up on the 59 years old, let me make sure the record is straight. This is my first wife, and we celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary on August 9th. She now has her own racing helmet, which she is very excited about.

Sorry about the missing phone number (409) 782-4515.

With Gustov and then Ike, things have been somewhat stressful and I was really uncertain about our prospects of going. I am looking forward to the break.

Don,

Glad you got back to us, and everything will work out for you to go....we were very worried it might take longer to restore essentials. In the end, you have your family unhurt, everything else works itself out, -but it is good to not have too much damage to your stuff too! :hysterical:

What restaurant do you have? Im a big fan of good food! :happy feet:

Sorry I haven't posted sooner - I spent three weeks working 16+ hour days out in Dayton, TX, then a week with a 100+ temperature, and then Ike hit. Needless to say, I've been a bit swamped for the past month and dealing with a 100 fever without power isn't the funnest thing you can do. I'll be joining Sherri and the others at the Kroger on Wednesday morning for the drive out. My second driver had something come up and had to back out so I'm trying to talk a guy in our mustang club into coming but it'll probably just be me. I have a room booked at the Holland Hotel in Alpine that night and the micro-brewery will definitely be a welcome change of pace.

Nice to cya yesterday Matt. Glad you are feeling better. Were you talking to the new guy that showed up with his SS? That would be cool. He can take his own car also if you are splitting a ticket.

Sherri,

No, I'm trying to get Pete Sigwardt to come but he wasn't sure yesterday and I haven't heard from him yet today. I'm also talking to Moabman on here in case he can go (he had had plans to travel out of the country this week but those have changed).
