I can tell now...

My wife and I picked up my Barrett Jackson SGT with the new Kenne Bell supercharger this afternoon.

Thanks Bud and team!

I don't have pictures yet. We left Vegas a little after 1:00 (2PM MDT) and got to Grand Junction about 9:00PM MDT and it's a little dark now.

I got the black Kenne Bell. The polished was just too much bling. Also this is on the automatic transmission. [Remember, this ain't your grandma's automatic transmission.]

The supercharger on this beast has been described as "awakening the animal instinct". Instantly responsive in all mountain driving conditions. WOW!!! In places I would expect the cruise to drag down a little all of a sudden there is 6lb boost and whoot! Going Uphill Faster! The real test will be tomorrow when we go up I70 to Aspen and the tunnel but I expect it'll fly.

It's quick to kick in though. I almost broke the rear end loose turning into a gas station across traffic. It will take a little getting used to.

Mileage doesn't seem to have suffered too badly. On the trip to Vegas in late July we averaged just a little over 22MPG. So far on the return we're getting about 21MPG.

Per Bud's request we "took it easy", and I will continue to do so for the rest of the trip. That'll give it 800 miles of "break in".

We should get home in time for me to wash the car and get some pictures for tomorrow.

Wow! The performance sounds excellent. That is great news on the mpg. Some questions when you get a chance:

Did you upgrade the brakes or wheels?

Did you have to lose the strut tower brace?

How is the exhaust tone? Louder, quieter?

Did you change your side stripes to S/C?

Thanks and congrats!

Tony . . . Too much bling? Ain't no such thing. ;) You are just building a stealth car. Black car, black S/C, and auto trans. All the kidding aside, congratulations on your car. It was stellar looking even before your modifications. Do you know of any other BJ GT/SC cars? Post those photos when you can.

That sounds like a great ride and I, too would be interested in hearing how it works with Auto... I'm still sitting on the fence on what power adder to put on the car and NOT lose the great gas mileage I'm getting...

Can't wait to see pics and hear more about your experiences...

Did you upgrade the brakes or wheels? A: No. At least not yet. I don't intend on running on an oval track. Besides, who's stopping?

Did you have to lose the strut tower brace? A: It's in the trunk, so technically it's not lost, just not installed any more. :) But yes, it doesn't fit. Word is that SPP is working on a billet replacement that will fit. I'm waiting.

How is the exhaust tone? Louder, quieter? A: Exhaust didn't change. There is a definite but subdued supercharger whine. It is not noticeable in the car at normal speeds, but I did notice it at the drive up window this morning when getting coffee.

Did you change your side stripes to S/C? A: The side stripes get replaced with Shelby GT/SC stripes.

Thanks and congrats!

Regarding wheels/tires/brakes: I was originally concerned about keeping the rear wheels in contact. That is not a problem - I have yet to lose contact. Actually, I've not lit them up yet - I would have to do it on purpose since so far they have not broken loose (except for the one time when I was accelerating when turning hard left). Time will tell if I need more contact which wider tires would bring. Wider tires means wider wheels too, and wider wheels brings the opportunity of bigger brakes. It's a snowball effect. In any case the season is nearing an end here so this is a spring mod if at all.

When I left the car in early August there was one BJ with the black S/C that I looked at - I compared yours with that one. Bud indicated there were two others besides mine so far. I did get a chance to ride in the coupe and it definitely reinforced the decision to get it done.

Rumor is that one of the three BJs getting supercharged is Reggie Jackson's.

The number three was from last spring. That may have changed by now. But so far all of the BJ's besides mine are very definitely "underground".

#2 may get the treatment later this fall or next spring.

Photos of it.

I also got the gauge cluster but forgot to take pics of it. It's pretty nice "feedback" but I catch myself looking over to see just how much boost is on. It looks like the stock is 7-8lbs.

Got a chance to wind it up. Holy Oleo Batman! It ain't even the same car! I'm gonna need some new tires pretty soon. Three of us "big guys" (all 240+ lbs each of us) - two in the front and one in the back - went for a spin this afternoon, and it lit the tires without even breathing hard!

When I was in College (34 years ago) my professor said that things like this should be monochromatic (Black and White). For "a thing" it is pretty cool. So, here it is:

Tony oustanding...I knew you were talking about it but I didn't know that you took the car out in August. Are you going to bring it out to the Golden cruise night on Saturday?? Would love to see it.

Congrats!!

We won't make it Golden but I'm going to try to make it to the Colorado Breakfast Club in the Springs on the 20th. Plans are subject to change right now due to a potential daughter/boyfriend relocation assistance request. Trying to get them to delay a day.

I don't have enough bandwidth for the pictures to show :( I apologize if the pictures answer my next question as I cannot see them.

Did you get the supercharged plaque on the front passenger side of the engine - across from the CSM plate? I believe that was going to be provided to the GT/SC models.

No, the secondary badge isn't happening yet. I was hoping...

This once again just reinforces my decision on the KB . . . . . This just looks great! I like the practical observations of the chage in power delivery. . . sounds like effortless power. Very Nice. The power/torque curve on the KB is just ridiculous.

I'm still wanting to know if the KB supercharger will fit under the CS6 hood or if there is any modification to the underside needed???

Hi Tony,

Despite what your professor said about black and white can we cajole you to publish the photos in living color as well? Thanks.

Jim

Sure, I'll post the corresponding color shots. The lighting and colors are pretty flat, that's why B&W looks best in this situation.

From what I understand and have read on the forum here, the KB actually sits a little lower than the Whipple, and I believe people have said that it fits under the CS6 hood without any modifications...don't ask me to prove it, surely someone will chime in here that has both the KB and a CS6 hood and let us all know for sure...

I just wonder what all gets taken out if the belt goes! I had the belt on my 96 GT disentegrate one night, lost brakes, cause they work off of Power Steering for boost and belt was off of PS pump, not to mention hard to turn without PS...I found pieces of that belt for months after that...

Just looks like the Air intake for the KB and the upper radiator hose are prone to getting some damage if the belt comes off...

So yesterday I was cleaning the car after the long trip and decided to to the other one too. I opened the hood on both and got some before and after pictures of what the KB installation moves around.

First, they lower the fuse box, move the wiring harness connector and get the oil filler port out of the way of the cold air intake feeder tube:

Before:

After

The old CAI is removed (take off parts) and the KB intercooler tank added to the front.

After:

Next the fuel rails are changed. The old injectors seemed to be on some kind of risers. The new ones are very close to the top of the engine.

And finally, even though posted before, a new pic of the signatures on the air bag cover.

These cars came with an autographed photograph of Carroll Shelby, Craig Jackson and Steve Davis (from Barrett Jackson) and Amy Boylan (SAI). So I sent the airbag covers around and got all of them to sign too:

The oil trap came with the KB? By the way, I knew there was a reason you needed two Shelbys -- so you could do those photos!

Jim

Did you not get one with yours???

Two sure makes before and after easy.

It also stresses me - If one has got exhaust tip rot the other one probably will get it too. That happens with twins.
