What would you choose and why?

If you had the chance to buy a 2008 Gt500 convertible or a 2008 Shelby GT convertible for the same amount of money, which would you buy and why? Assuming that both are brand new and cheaper than X-plan.

I will also post this in the Shelby GT forum.

The GT I'm looking at is an automatic. The GT500 is silver.

Which one do you think will have a better resale value in the short term of say, 4 - 8 years?

That would not be possible. Where are you going to get a gt500 for the same price as Shelby gt. Apples to Oranges. :banghead:

It entirely depends on what you want to do with the car.

I think the GT500 vert is a nicer touring car, with tons of power and torque. I think it will hold up better as a convertible with the softer suspension.

If you're driving in traffic, or daily driver, the automatic is quite an advantage.

I'd probably get the SGT, but I already have a GT500, and the auto tranny is an attractive alternative. Still, it would be a very hard choice.

I think either way, just don't factor future value into your decision. There's arguments for and against both car's future value, but we aren't going to know how the story turns out for 4 - 8 years.

I love the stance of the SGT, GT500 is a bit butt high.

The hood and front end of the GT500 has a very cool look. Not like all the other Mustangs.

I've driven both cars on the track. SGT handles much better, doesn't have the heavy feel that the GT500 has.

Power, GT500 all the way.

Same money, go with the GT500. If you can work a close to invoice deal on the SGT, well that changes things.

This is just my humble opinion.

For a mere $2K installed you have the same stance on a GT500 as the SGT has along with the same handling.

For $5K more I would take the GT500 hands down!

Reality check! You can't buy a new GT500 for less than x-plan. You MIGHT get a SGT below x-plan...in fact you can get a 08 SGT for $2K below x-plan since it is available on x-plan and it does have $2K x-plan bonus cash with that.

GT500 has ZERO incentives.

No question the GT500! After having mine for about 6 months, I got a chance to test drive a SGT and the first time I stomped on the gas I thought, where's the acceleration? There is no comparison if you crave the acceleration and being thrown back in your seat when you step on it. 320 vs. 500 Big difference!

How would you like being smoked by some kid with a slightly modded Mustang GT? Get the GT500, throw a few mods at her and never have to worry about it! :shift:

you buy the gt500 sell it then buy the gt and bank the profit.the gt500 should have the higher resale value with perhaps the exception of the gt-c because of the low prodution numbers [200] one might also consider getting the gt-c in automatic as this could be extremely rare

If I had the choice...no contest! The GT500 Vert. Lots of Mustangs with 4.6L CAI motors, but not nearly as many 5.4L SC motors. Not to mention the unique body panels.

But, like others I can't even see how this is possible. GT500 isn't available on any plan in the US, and the SGT being anywhere near as expensive as a GT500 is rediculous. An SGT under X-Plan sounds like a deal...but I don't see the GT500 being the same price.

If an auto trans means that much to you, I believe Evolution can hook you up with one for the GT500.

Either car can be like the other with an additional investment. It all depends what you want out of the box. Handling or straight line power?

The resale value question is near impossible to answer. The GT500 is more widely publicized and well known whereas the SGT came out with a whimper, but the SGT is a very limited SAI product where the GT500 is a production SVT product. That may or may not have merit in the future. Right now the SGT is not holding it's value but the GT500 is.

Each one has it's pros and cons and both are great cars. The automatic would be a deal breaker for me.
