Fill 'er up!

Hi folks, I've been lurking and occasionally commenting on this forum for a little while now, but Saturday I became an owner! I purchased a brand new, 2007 GT 500 Convertible in Alloy. It has been the centerpiece of Town & Country Ford (Nashville) showroom for a while. Two days of ownership and 280 miles of constant grinning! I don't even mind paying for premium gas....BUT, do you have problems getting gas to go into the car??? I stopped coming home Saturday to top off and could not get more than a few cents at a time to go in. After cruising some Saturday night--at about half a tank--it filled much easier. This morning I stopped to fill up after a long drive on Sunday and again, it just barely went in. I finally had to hold the pump myself, as on the first "auto fill" notch, it kept kicking off...... I'm used to my vans and F150 taking gas like a tanker had pulled along side...... Is there some secret to a quick fill up?

Thanks!

some have reported have the same problems even with regular 05+ mustangs, not just the GT500's. Here is a copy of the old Technical Service Bulletion & if this sounds like your problem or it continues take this to them & have them check out the venting system

I've had this problem at some gas stations.

Here are some tricks to try when this happens.

Turn the pump nozzle sideways and try pumping, if that doesn't work turn the nozzle upside down.

Turn the ignition key to the on position (not the run position) this will turn the powered vent in the

tank system on so I've been told. This has worked for me.

I have had this happen as well. It does seem to depend on the nozzle/pump. I have used all the same tricks mentioned. Did have one time when I just couldn't seem to get it to take much gas. It was 100* out so I was thinking it might get worse if it is really hot outside. Just a thought...

hmmm...............The next time this happens to me, I'll try cycling the ignition key..............

Turning the pump handle upside down has always done the trick for me in the past. But the problem does seem to relate to specific stations and pumps..............

Coming home from Tulsa from the show in June I stopped in Wichita to gas up. I could only get about two gallons in the car. I remembered someone in Germany posted he had problems filling his car, he stated someone told him to just turn the Ignition key to the on position so I tried that. I just turned It to on and left the key in and went back an filled the car, It took the full tank without shutting the gas pump off. I didn't cycle the key. I was in FT. Worth this past weekend and had to fill up in Oklahoma City, Dallas and FT. Worth. the Third fill up the car wouldn't take gas, I just turned the nozzle sideways and it started to fill OK.

By the way Sprint 200, I was on the way back North of the Oklahoma City Metro area and passed a GT500 going south on I-35. It was white with blue stripes. Anybody you know?

It might have been Qtrflsh. He lives here in Edmond; darned good driver! We went to Texas World Speedway together last March for the SVTOA school...... I needed more "schoolin" than he did :hysterical:
