Sturgis - Mustang Rally

HORSBYT

Recommended Posts

We went to the bike rally a couple of years ago and if you farted sideways the cops wrote you a ticket. I can imagine they will have a field day with the Mustangs, (i.e. loud pipes, tinted windows, no front plate, etc.) for that reason we aren't going any more.

Ya gotta stop fartin' sideways!!!

Seriously, I think the crowd should have a more subdued attitude. People go the the bike rally with the expectation of attending a rowdy event, whether they are doctors, accountants or bikers. The event brings out a certain attitude. I think the Mustang rally will be a very different event.

I didn't even know they had this! I can't go this year, but I'm definitely going to have to plan for it sometime in the future. I grew up in SD and love the Black Hills area. The extent of our vacations was either in the Black Hills or in the Twin Cities as we never got a chance to get too far away from the farm/ranch, nor could for very long.

They had about 260 cars registered and probably 100 more milling around that didn't enter the show. This was the 2nd year of the rally and the car count went up by 110 from last year. I think this is eventually going to be a big annual event once the word gets out, probably just as big or bigger than Steamboat. Deadwood is a great little town to spend a night or 2 in, and is only about 10 miles from Sturgis. Mount Rushmore is about an hour or so away and makes a great day trip.

Lots of Shelbys there and lots of beautiful Mustangs. After the show there was a caravan of 184 cars that lined up in Sturgis and drove with a police escort through the town, past the local Veteran's hospital and then through Deadwood for the awards presentation. The ride thru the black hills alone was worth the trip!

Damn camera crapped out on me, but my friends took a bunch of pics. I'll try to get a few and post some.

Old Guy – yes, please post some photos. I had planned on being there but my granddaughter’s fifth birthday party was at our farm on Saturday. I knew if I left for the Hills and missed the party my daughter, her mother and my granddaughter would never let me forget what a cad I was to put my Shelby before family. They will never know it was a toss up.

Thanks,

Really Old Guy

My wife and I attended last year's event and this year's event. Tell ya what; I have no doubt that this rally will become one of the biggest Mustang events in the nation in a few short years.

Jacobsen Ford, the sponsor of the Show and Shine (and a major part of the behind the scenes work) are noting but awesome people. Also, the individuals that hatched the idea and put the rally together are well experience and are well organized. This *will* be a major event in a few years.

Aside from the link Old Guy posted, check out this one too http://www.eggmangraphics.com/sturgis/pics.html, some pretty cool videos and pictures.

2008 Shelby GT500KR number 138 (black on black) was there too! It was only 8 days old.

Each year they had a dice roll to win the Shelby GT. If no one won it via the dice roll, then they auctioned it off. Nobody actually won the car either year so it was auctioned off. The dice roll consisted of one shake of 6 dice. Each dice had one letter on it, S H E L B Y. If your roll of the dice spelled SHELBY, then you won the car. The white GT was from the 1st annual rally, the blue GT was from the 2nd annual rally.
