What is the chance of a 2008 Shelby GT500 with an automatic transmission?

Zero. Ford doesn't have an auto that will handle this torque load. They may have this much torque in a truck but it's obviously a much different application. There's an interested sheet in the Ford mechanic's data that talks specifically about the 6060 versus the T56. Supposedly FAR superior (stronger)

Last time I spoke with a transmission engineer at ford (ok, the only time) He said the truck tranny in the lightning was maxed otu and could not handle any more power. That was the last year of the currnt lightning. I understand they used the trans from the 7.3 diesel. If ya complain about weight think of what an auto wuold add!

I highly doubt it. The Shelby is build to be a performance muscle car, and automatics don't really fit that profile.

So, you think automatics don't fit the 'performance muscle car' profile idea? Man, LMAO!!!!!!!!! Lets see, more Mustangs and Shelby GT500's in the 60's equipped with 390's, 428's, and 429's left the factory with C6 automatics than manual transmissions! That is a fact! Shall I continue... More than 50% of the 5.0 Mustangs running out at the Drag Strips are using modified automatics and running anywhere from mid 6's to low 10's with their 'not a performance muscle car' little automatic! Still LMAO!!!!!! Ask Performance Automatic or Art Carr if their little automatics can handle the performance of the big bad 5.4 Shelby motor and they'll laugh at you for sure. Saleen has sold many S281's that are supercharged that came equipped with automatics with 0 problems! Roush has done the same thing! I have a 2000 Saleen supercharged automatic with my mods has about 420hp and the 'automatic' handles it just find with 0 problems so far! And my 00 has the older electronic 4spd automatic as well. The new 5spd automatic could easily handle the Shelby motor no problem. Ford just hasn't done it yet because they have to go through a new certification process if mating the 5spd automatic to the 5.4 for the Mustang and besides this taking time, it costs some big dollars! This is why all the Cobra Mustangs from 93-04 and the 01 Bullitt did not come with the option of an automatic! This comes straight from Team Mustang #2 at the time and if you know Mustangs, then you can guess who gave the info....It has nothing to do with such an ignorant statement as a car is not a 'performance muscle car' with an automatic. And according to Amy B. with Shelby, they have already been considering producing a GT500 with an automatic. Some people don't race their cars and therefore prefer an automatic. Through heavy traffic and mountain terrain, an automatic is preferred by a lot in thouse situations. And for some people whether they might be disabled from whatever reason cannot drive a manual equipped car. I know a Vietnam Vet who is a double amputee at his knees so obviously he cannot work the clutch and since he is into Muscle Cars, why shouldn't he be able to get a new Shelby GT500 if that is want he wants, but can't because its only available with a manual transmission? Many top European sports cars are produced with clutchless transmissions. The BMW M3 tranny is basically a hybrid of an automatic and a manual, so why can't Ford offer something similar on the Shelby GT500? Even the Dodge Magnum SRT8 equipped with a 425hp HEMI has an automatic! The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 with all-wheel drive and 420hp comes only with an automatic! Its about doing research! One of the top Mustang selling Ford dealer's in north Texas said they could sell the Cobra Mustang (this was 99-00) if equipped with an automatic tranny more than 10 to 1 over the same manual equipped cars!! He said 7 out of 10 were women asking but that they wanted an automatic. I have nothing against any car with a manual tranny, but its about preference and what the customer wants. So before making such a stupid comment, think about what the reason might be why someone may want this option.... :stop:
