Touchless Car-wash, any one use them????????

Recommended Posts

I went through the touchless car wash today and was pretty impressed, it obviously does not wash as good as by hand, but nothing touches the car so it can not harm it.

The only question I have is what kind of soap they use, reason for this is I wonder if it takes of the existing wax?

Other than that seems to be a great invention.

What do you all think???

Be careful the rocker panel sprayer does not remove your lower stripe!

I've been using the Mr. Clean Carwash system which does a pretty good job of preventing water spots on my white SGT (I'm sure black would be a little more challenging!)

I'd be concerned about lifting the stripes with the high pressure touchless wash. I figure I can't hurt much with my low pressure garden hose. ;)

In my experience, touchless is a waste of money. It never gets all the dirt off and you do risk damage from the pressure. Nothing beats good ol soap and water, but everybody keeps trying to invent the wheel and convince us otherwise.

That's why it smells sooooo gooooood! :hysterical:

I bet it removes bugs and tar like crazy eh? :happy feet:

Does it work pretty well?

Kerosene is usually in liquid waxes as a caranuba wax emulsifier btw. Just yanking your chain, or trying too...

Of course you could add a little fish oil and be on the verge of using WD 40 - which works good on bugs an tar as well coincidently.. :hysterical:

I have used it quite a few times on the car and stripes and no issues. I have used it on windows and have never seen them cleaner. I just tried it for jollies after seeing a 427 SC Cobra and Lambo someone on another forum was bragging about. The cost was less than a good can of carnuba. The emusifiers lift the dirt from the surface and the heavy nap terry cloth towel catches it. I was truly amazed at the results. I needed to see it to believe it but it works as advertised. Go figure. And the pump is quite amazing in itself. It takes me about 1/2 hr. to do the entire car including the door jambs.

I've pretty much put all of my other detailing materials on a shelf for now. Inn the fall I will give it a good Dawn wash to strip all the wax, a clay bar and a good hand detailing with Griot's products before putting her away for the winter. But for the summer time this will do just fine.

I've run mine thru the touchless car wash several dozen times. No problem with the stripes.

As someone said, it doesn't do as good a job as good ol' soap and water, but it saves a LOT of time.

I usually use it when the car is just dusty, or a little light road dirt from a drive. Run it thru the car wash and then wipe it down with Meguires quick detailer to get rid of the water spots that ALWAYS show up on black paint.

one thing i hate more than anything is washing my car. epecially around the rocker pannels. its road grit city down there. i was down on my back the next day. i wore out my wash mitten after only 3 washes. i only waxed my car twice since i bought it last august.

i miss just goin to a regular car wash and scrub my truck with their brush and pressure hose and drive off.

anyone ever dared using the car wash's scrub brushes in the regular car wash stalls on your SGT's? i'm afraid to. no tellin what the last person used them on.

i wish i could have something like a power mitt that wiggles and scrubs the car gently with soap but firmly enough to get the stuborn road grime off.

maybe i need to put rhino lining on my SGT so all i have to do is hose it off and go.

I've used the Mr. Clean Carwash system too since it came out many years ago. It works great for black cars, but you still have to wash a black car in the shade or at dusk or dawn so it doesn't dry. I like washing the car, rinsing it and walking away and the next morning it is spotless and I didn't have to do any drying. If there are any spots a quick shot of Mequire's quik detailer takes care of it.

I've never really been a fan of the touchless car wash because of the pressure behind them and they still seem to leave dirt behind.

I live on a golf couse so I don't dare leave any car in my driveway. I have had two broken vehicle windows and a several hood and roof dents in 11 years just making the dash to or from the street, 35 feet to the garage. Luckily, none on my SGT. I pity the guy who hits my SGT. It will probably make the local news.

As a result, I am terrified to wash my SGT in my driveway. I have used the local touchless car wash at the neighborhood Chevron station several times for a "quickie" with no problems. When I want to do a good job, I go to the local car do-it-yourself wash that has a wand with the soft bubble brush. My car is black so I bring all of my cleaning goodies and go over it thoroughly in the parking lot outside the car wash afterwards. There is usually a little water hiding somewhere on it so I always have to wipe it down again when I get it home.

I have been using a little kerosene in water to clean all of my cars for years. It was is in a "Hint's from Heloise" (remember her?) book my mother had from the 60's. It is the best bug and tar remover I have ever used. I've used it sparingly only on the bugs or tar spots on my SGT with no issues. It hasn't affected the front bumper or side stripes so far.

As some of the others have said, it is just an in between hand wash deal for me. My car is garaged only and only driven in nice weather so it pretty much takes the dust off, seems to do so very well.

Checked the stripes, all is well.

Still curious what kind of soap they use.

I use Zep commercial auto cleaner through my pressure washer and it destroys bugs, and most of the dirt just seems to go away magically. They must use something similar in carwashes. I loves the zep. They don't recommend letting it dry on your car though or leaving it on for more than a few minutes so maybe it's harsh? I dunno, I just use it when the dust and grime is thick to prep it for a nice hand wash.
