Shelby GT Mods for SCCA racing

Recommended Posts

If you live in the Baltimore, Washington Area you need to go to Summit Point Raceway in W VA for Friday at the track, I did and ran my Shelby with the Best Cars on the Road / in the world.

But I need help with finding a tow hook that can be installed on the front and back of my Shelby GT, the installation of a 5 point belt without a roll bar and if need be a roll bar.

any items or suggestions?

This is just the beginning

You have got the bug!

Check with these guys for tow hooks

I have also been checking into harness bars that mount in the factory locations of the existing seat belts to run a harness. There is currently only one company who has one for the 05-09 Mustang application and that will not be ready until sometime in August.

Another company has one in development with no anticipated release date

For roll bars try

Another alternative may be this company who is now in production of a bolt in 4 point bar which mounts in the the factory front and rear seat or seatbelt locations. Not sure on avalibility but should be next month also.

Have a great time, joetroberts! When I lived in MD, I used to race at Summit Point. It was such a blast. The guys above have given you some good starters for info. I know a guy who still goes to Summit Point quite a bit, he's an instructor at a driver school. I could hook you up w/ him if you'd like, if nothing else just to say hello, just PM me. He also owns an auto repair shop in Millersville, MD.

Lulu (Mac) does not "do" PM's for some reason. If you want to be in touch, PM me and I will get you his e-mail address. He does have a good harness setup.

You need to very deliberate about this. Identify the class you want to aprticipate in. Find a local SCCA official and let him help you interpret the rules for that class. You don't want to spend money only to have the car fail inspection.

I have the bolt-in Autopower Industries 4-pt. competition roll bar with 5-pt harnesses and Corbeau FX Pro1 seats in my 500; but I'm just participating in Open Track events and the tech rules are much more lenient.

Some rules require a 6-pt cage with a halo bar and door bars. And they inspect the welds very closely for any bubbles or imperfections. Other classes don't require a bar at all, but if you do install one it has to then meet the "strict" standards. Each sanctioning body and each class is different so check it out.

btw, getting the interior side panels back in with the roll bar in place was ..............uhmmmm..........."fun" :censored::hysterical:

Have fun! :shift:

No I do not Joe. I did e-mail the company because they have the application for the 04 Mustang and mention of the 05-09 fitment.

Here is a partial response from Corbeau

The pictures on our website, which are in a 2004 Mustang are basically how

the 2005-2008 will look. There are only a couple minor modifications but the

overall look and specs are almost identical. We don't have the 2005-2008 in

stock until the end of August so pics will be posted on the website at that

time.

Hope this works for you,

Roger
