jaydub Mach1
I'm going to the dealer tomorrow for the dreaded airbag recall. <_< I wanted to show them a copy of the warning to the dealers about the "Shelby" tune that SAI posted on here a while back. But, I can't find it. Can anybody send me a copy or a link to the post? Thanks
JeffIsHereToo
There was no specific warning for all SGTs but there was one for those that have a SC only because, I think, the Ford computer would show the SGT tune as the tune of record in an error and not the SC tune. Also if your car is flashed with a GT tune it will still run, not well but run, if a SC car tune is replaced with a GT tune it won't run at all and the tune is not available from the usual Ford sources only from SAI. Little more serious. Anyway, here is the notice: http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27817 The caution, as I said, is for the SC cars but the same can be said for ours. Having said that there is no reason why the recall should, of done right, will have any effect. But a good thing to remind the dealer of. Of course my solution has been not to allow any kids weighing less than 30 lbs (or what ever the weight was) to sit in the front seat.

However, the document I remembered was a pdf that I downloaded, but can't find now that I need it. It was similiar to the email in the link. And I believe it was for the NA cars, but..... Hi Jeff, I happened to talk with Bud yesterday about this very subject. His bottom line advice was the same as yours: Do not do the recall, in order avoid any chance of a disaster, and keep the smaller people out of that seat. slamarre
JeffIsHereToo, You know the other thread i started about the SGT tune, well my car got the recall done at the dealer before i purchase the car and how to make sure that they did not mess up the PCM instead of the RCM? I have the sticker, the yellow X in the ECM but there must be a way to verify with some sort of computer? Do i need to call SAI for that or contact someone by e-mail? Thanks
ShowCar
I had the recall done not to long ago and was told the engine management portion of the ECM is not touched tune wise. Just the SRS portion of the ECM. The car ran hard before and after the recall.
Shelby-Don
I seem to remember a sign that someone on this site created to put in their vehicle when they take it in for repairs that mentions the custom tune, I thought it was JeffisHere that created it. I think I save the pdf file at home, if noone else finds it I will try to upload it tonight. Don
chrisminx
when i took my SGT in for it's oil change, i asked the service manager about the recall. He stated that he already performed the upgrade. He assured me he changed the RCM and not the PCM. My car is running fine. I guess if the PCM was changed, the car would run considerably different, correct?
KCMO-GT500
I went a bit farther even, I attached a shortened version of the warning to a metal plate, and screwed it over the port (had to add a new screw and used an existing one also. I think it was just a small piece of metal from an erector set.

Jim I dont think its very responsible for a SAI employee to be advising customers not to do the airbag recall. Seems to me that would create liability issues. Sooner or later, someone will end up in that front seat when you arent thinking about the airbag, its not worth the risk. It may be very hard, but try to find a dealer that has a clue. I did and it took a trip to Rhode Island to accomplish it.

ejrail
I took the notice from SAI about the recall to the dealer where I bought my car new when I had mine done. The Service Manager assured me the airbag is in a totally different part of the computer and there would be no problems. He says he personally does all of the recalls on all of the various conversion Mustangs they sold. He said he appreciates how particular us Shelby owners are. Mine runs as strong as the day I took delivery. Maybe I just lucked out? Erik 07SGT2940
jaydub Mach1
Thanks for the info, guys!! I just dropped off my car. They assured me that they are aware of the SGT differences and will only touch the SRS side of the house. It's the same dealership where I bought the car, so at least they know me theor. But I don't know if that's good or bad!! We'll see....

I think you're thinking of my own sticker I created for our cars that I uploaded as a PDF. I will see if I can find it. I did it as a general warning and not specific to this recall. That's the only PDF like notice I am aware of or remember.

stump_breaker
Call Glenn or Josh at Quantum Performance. Glenn actually printed out the recall, the recall number and the issue with the tech's going into the wrong part of the computer for programming. It was stated some time back if I recall correctly that if the tune is changed for whatever reason, SAI can email it to the dealership to have it reinstalled. slamarre
JeffIsHereToo, I guess for us SGT non-SC owner, we just need the SGT one right? Where do you suggest to put this piece of paper? Inside or in the engine compartment?
JeffIsHereToo
JeffIsHereToo, I guess for us SGT non-SC owner, we just need the SGT one right? Where do you suggest to put this piece of paper? Inside or in the engine compartment? Good question! This effort came out of the fact that the Ford Power Pack comes with a sticker that is applied to the drivers side strut tower enclosure facing front. Not sure if that description helps but maybe someone with an 06 GTH can post as they have them which gave me the idea. Ideal place is where the connector is but there is no place to stick it. I decided to print and laminate the tag and using a metal chain fed though the laminate hang it from the dash when I take it in as a warning as well as stuck it inside the engine compartment where the GTH (Ford Racing) sticker is. No idea if it will help or not but I figured it can't hurt even if all it does is give them reason to pause and think.
LuLu
If you print out stickers, best place to apply one is across the face of the service work order. Wrench can't miss that! Well...I would hope not.

I hadn't requested it but the dealer updated the RCM after they changed the oil. The service advisor assured me they didn't update the PCM and there's no change car in the way the car runs.
