shelbymotorsports
Two Team Shelby Members have stepped up to the plate and will be running their Dodge cars at Terlingua. From SoCal will be Team Shelby member SWBstudios who will be running a gorgeous, mint 1986 Shelby GLHS. Some of you will recognize this 'S' car from the January Bullrun from L.A. to Vegas. Something about the helicopter pilot having difficulty keeping up with it :P And from the LoneStar state we have Team Shelby member JamesL who will be running their one of one prototype Shelby Dodge CSX. Most Dodge guys know this prototype by its nickname of "the Birthday car" as it was presented to Carroll on his birthday by the Whittier crew back in 1988. Carroll and Amy wanted at least one Dodge car to run at Terlingua. I'm glad I was able to assist in getting two and want to publicly thank these two Team Shelby members for stepping up to the plate. There was no whining about the price, no complaining about the distance, nothing more than checking their calendars and saying sure count me in, it sounds like great fun. I wonder how many Mustang owners will be counting the spark plug wires when these two members open the hood to their cars Steve

JamesL
Are you planning on entering the track events with your car? Well, this is a one of one car that is completely stock. I'll enter it in some of the events but I probably won't be beating on it.
swbstudios
Well, this is a one of one car that is completely stock. I'll enter it in some of the events but I probably won't be beating on it. I remember the car from it's Autoweek cover and nearly bought it when it recently appeared on the auction site(just didn't have any more room for another car!). Looking forward to seeing it and the Shelby Terlingua at the event. We are planning on driving the '86 GLHS in all of the events. I wish we could bring out our road racing GLHS as well, just no way to get it out there. Here is our S car.

shelbymotorsports
I've been in touch with both SWBstudios and JamesL this week and their excitement is catching. I so wish I could attend but I'm confident that these guys will represent the Dodge years with many jaw dropping faces from the other drivers. Again thanks guys for making Carrolls & Amys request that we have some Dodge cars participate happen. Steve

shelbymotorsports
Latest update for the Dodge guys. JamesL and SWBstudios are finishing up some fine tuning of their cars and are ready to go. I'm working on a getting a third Shelby Dodge to run the event, I will announce it here first if they are able to get the time off of work. Hmmm maybe I can get Amy to ditch her Mustang in favor of a Dodge Steve PS- Just a joke Amy but I will get a picture of you next to one of Carroll's Dodge cars someday. :D

JamesL
We are gearing up for the trip this week to Terlingua. However, hurricane Ike really set us back. We are determined to make it but its day 7 here with no electricity or running water. God willing, by Monday we will have both. It may come down to the wire as we cannot leave our kids in another's care if things have not normalized. Schools may not even open next week. The folks who stepped up to help with our kids evacuated and have not returned. I do not know their status at this point. The front air dam on the car required some repair and that has not been completed. If we are able to make it, the car will not be complete and that alone is enough make me re-consider. I don’t want to be out the entry fee either but my priorities have to be with my family. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed and say some prayers for the folks here who got completely wiped out. We are all safe. Our home had only one tree fall on it though several large oaks and pines are down on our property and for miles around us. AT&T finally got service restored and I wired my generator to the house to power a few important things like the frig and the router. Gasoline had been in short supply because no one had power to pump it. That situation is improving to the point that I no longer have to ration use for the generator. The first few days I had to siphon all the gas out of my Shelby. Anyway, we hope to see you in Terlingua as it will be a nice break from all of this stuff. shelbymotorsports
Wow James & Cindy. Sorry to hear about all the disruption Ike caused you. Glad things are looking a little better and hope everything works out. I agree that attending Terlingua will be a great distraction from the past two weeks and the pampering you will get from the hotel is next to none. Keep us up to date and if there is anything we can do. Steve
swbstudios
Heading out tomorrow for the big event. As usual having a tough time trying to pack all the junk-radar detectors, nav, vid camera, etc. You think I'll be able to just wear my helmet on the plane? Sending good thoughts James and Cindy's way and hope to see them at the event. My plan is to stay out of the way of the big V8s and brag about my fuel mileage at dinner. We plan on being there though, I'm not sure we will make it by 3pm. We are taking care of some last minute things and will try to be on the road tonight. I was not able to finish several things on the car so I'm not sure if we will be running it in any of the events.
shelbymotorsports
Got a phone call earlier today and all the Shelby Dodge members have arrived safely. The resort has been great to them and the amenities are top notch. Pics and videos are being taken. I'm not sure when they will be uploaded here but you can count on it being done asap. Wishing everybody a great time. :happy feet: Steve
black86glhs
You know James, if you had used the generator to work on the car instead of keeping the fridge running, it might have been closer to being done. Just kidding, glad to hear everyone got there ok. That's too funny. The good news is that the B-day car is there and the look on Carroll's face when he sees it will be priceless. swbstudios
Here is a bit of a summary that I posted on TM. What a great event! I have been to many car events over the years-from high roller Ferrari club galas to low key MG affairs. That said, I must say that Team Shelby outdid themselves with the Terlingua Reunion. The rooms were 5 star, scenery spectacular, the food was top drawer, the goodie bags generous, the events challenging and exciting, support from local law enforcement was tremendous, weather was perfect, local Texans were friendly and enthusiastic, the cars entered were fast and stunning to look at, the celebs were great and accessible and Carroll looked right at home in Texas!!! The event started off great when we walked up to registration and found that the Shelby folk had parked the GLHS right in front of the main registration entrance(we had the car shipped to the event and it arrived before we did). Hats off to Cindy and James-they really busted tail to get that B'day to the event. They were great fun to hang out with and they drove that CSX like they stole it(check out my pic of their air dam!). FWD walks the walk. We had a blast beating on the S car. We were plagued with intermittent cooling issues, but that didn't prevent running her hard. Some of the open road sections were essentially flat out. While the Shelby Dodge probably topped out around 130-135, some of those other Shelbys were capable of much more. Our goal was to keep the car together and wait until we hit the curves. We entered a long, twisty, narrow road that lead up to an observatory and it was on! We passed a number of Shelbys(GT500s and GTs) and had a great dice with a modded GT500(I have video!). At the end of that section the owner walked over to me and said, "That's one hellava fast Dodge!" Another that we had passed said, "We were doing ***mph in those sweepers and you passed us!" You will not hear me bash any of the other owners, as they were all very supportive of the presence of the two Shelby Dodges. Many told both James and I that they were glad to see them at the event. A number of newer Shelby owners also said that they wanted to pick up a Shelby Dodge to add to the fleet. After getting a chance to see the Terlingua Shelbys, its looking like we will have to add one to the fleet! As great fun as all this was, nothing tops the the reaction of Carroll Shelby himself. He was at all the event during the week-end and seemed in great spirits. During one of the autograph sessions he was talking with James and Cindy and asked if they were in the GLHS that was giving everyone hell during the rally. He was also glad to see the birthday car again. Unexpectedly(Carroll doesn't sign many cars these days as its hard for him to get in and out of them), Carroll came out on the final morning to sign a couple cars. He did a Terlingua Shelby and a GT500. His assistant was saying that he'd only be able to sign one or two more, so I walked up to Mr. Shelby and asked if he'd be willing to sign a Dodge. He replied, "Hell yeah, I will!" and walked over to the S car. He asked me how much boost I was running and said that he was glad to see me giving them hell out on the road. He then related how much fun he'd had with his GLHS and said he still had a couple dozen of the 4 valve heads for it. He really took his time signing my dash and wrote(in huge letters) "Enjoy" and Carroll Shelby. Carroll then hung around all morning signing cars(including the B day car) and other items. I've posted a few here and will post more as time allows. To summarize, the folks at Team Shelby, Bullrun and the Lajitas resort were all fantastic. The event was one of the best and the other Shelby owners were friendly, supportive and inclusive of the Shelby Dodges. I highly recommend attending a TS event if you get the chance.
