That pesky little Nut

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else find the sharp corners of the nut under the stock SGT shifter to be irritating? It's not scratching or breaking skin or anything, but it sure it noticeable, especially in contrast to the nice smooth cue ball. Can the corners be ground off or covered with a rubber washer or something? Ideas?

There was a discussion on the very topic some time ago. I wouldn't even know what to search for now. It seems to effect people with larger hands than others. Of course it could also just be the way you're holding the cue ball. Personally I've never felt it to a point I noticed or had a problem but I can imagine the issues if I did.

I don't see why you can't have them rounded down on the edges it's a simple nut and even rounded will still work. If it bothered me like it seems to bother you I think I would try that first.

Maybe someone that had the issue back then will comment now on how they resolved the issue.

EDIT: Roger beat me...see what happens when I'm long winded! ;)

Remove the go over the edges with fine emory cloth. Should do the trick. Did it on mine the week I took delivery.

I did the same as Roger. I got really fine emory cloth and made strips so that I could sand it by gently pulling it back and forth across the nut. I even went so far as to dampen the strips and "wet sand" it to get it as smooth as possible-no problems since.

Here we go again talking about feeling sharp nuts, rubbing a cloth back and forth across the nut, gripping oversized balls too hard, and bastards too! Let's keep it clean boys; this is a family friendly site! :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Don't bring animals into this, we'll have the FCC all over us in no time...Not to mention the animal rights zealots.

I've become so used to the feel of that nut, if it wasn't there I wouldn't like it!

I am with ilmor. I sort of like that little nut and gives the car that unsophisticated, unique, all business like feel. You would never get that opportunity in one of those foreign jobs. ;)

Yes, it's part of what they call "character". I bet you wouldn't find that in a new BMW.

This thread was funny!! I laughed for about 15 minutes reading through it!! I actually think that I've become accustomed to it being there. If it wasn't there, it would feel weird. I've not noticed the edges being sharp enough to cut or anything. I say it stays!
