MMcGuirk
Hi, Got the September issue of Hot Rod last night and saw this. The Clift Notes version: Holman Moody was the brains behind all Ford racing's success in the 1960s, they let Carroll win LeMans (because that's the way Ford wanted it) and Holman Moody is directly responsible for the success of NASCAR. Oh, please... This really pissed me off. A relative of another of my childhood heroes - Holman Moody - publishes an secondhand opinion, lambasting Mr Shelby. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Check this out for yourself. Michael
SSGT500
I read that letter. I didn't think Mr. Holman lambasted Mr. Shelby. He was just presenting his view of past events. There is no denying the impact of Holman/Moody in Nascar.

Oh, please... My gut calls you no what on that. Egos were TOO BIG in my opinion for H-M to just go here you go Shelby, its yours. All HF-II cared about was Ford winning LeMans. There is no denying the impact of Holman/Moody in Nascar. Hey, I call BS and sense a great deal of jealousy of the success of Shelby on the track and in the showrooms I could have lived with facts, but to para phase Lee Holman - "Shelby was in the right place at the right time and he knew how to promote himself" In his letter, he definitely spent more verbiage down playing Shelby's role in Fords success, than providing facts on Holman Moody's contribution. No doubt, Holman Moody is and was a great organization. I would have respected more objective comments from Lee. Michael
SSGT500
Many of those events took place a long time ago. It does not surprise me that different people have different recollections of what happened. Referring to Mr. Holman as a bs'er is as disrectfull as referring to Mr. Shelby as one. Do you think we are all some kind of cult worshipers & you can break us or set us free? Yes you are "cult-worshipers" in every sense of the meaning of the word. You worship your cars....you worship an ordinary man's name. You show fanatical behavior and believe evereything and anything that is told to you by SAI even in the face on all contraindications. And you attck those people who freely think for themselves. I got news for you, just because 99% of us members show RESPECT to Mr. Shelby, Mrs. Boylan & others who made or are making history what it is with their current or past achievements thru hard work & determination doesn't mean the rest of us Team Members & Supporters are going to continue to listen to your BS. Maybe the both of you should start your own little world website & call it stuckinanera.com & form your own club of Shelby haters. The only history being made is that which you are making yourselves. 5 to 10 years from now noone isw going to give a rip. And if anyone does it will just be the die-hards that have chosen to put these cars first over everything else. Disrespect is a "yardstick" you people have defined and use on those that freely think for themselves and who choose to recognize Carroll Shelby for who he is...an ordinary man....that was born...that lives....and who someday will depart from the Earth....just like everyone else. We don't hate Shelby.....we just recognize in the grand scheme of things he is no different than anyone else who has a life and works for a living. The only people who are doihg any hating are those folks who don't get all caught up in the distractions of this world. We enjoy what we own but we keep it entirely in balance and never let its meaning or use rise above the things in life that are really important. We "live in the world but not of the world". David Hawkins
Because we are customers just like you that's why. If you hate CS and AB that much, WHY are you a Customer? Switch to Chevy. So you would perfer that we "cult-worship" the "Other" Club just because of what YOU say? And WE are not "Thinking for Ourselves" just because YOU say we are not? The only history being made is that which you are making yourselves. 5 to 10 years from now noone isw going to give a rip. We don't hate Shelby.....we just recognize in the grand scheme of things he is no different than anyone else who has a life and works for a living. Hummmmm, doesn't EVERYONE make History? YES, CS is an "Ordinary Man" who has done some very Extrordinay things that none of US (and YOU) have done which makes him "Stand Out" from the rest (Us & You). If I can achieve just a tenth of what CS has, I would be extremely lucky and HONORED. Disrespect has NO Measurement, I use MY Yardstick to measure Respect and to earn it, you must First Measure Up. The only people who are doihg any hating are those folks who don't get all caught up in the distractions of this world. I think you have that all wrong.......... The only people who are doing any hating are those folks who constantly cause disruptions by reading between lines and believeing that, THAT is what the writer ment to say. How can anyone who bashes people rise above it all? David.

Did Mr. Holman expect him to do his entire interview talking about Holman-Moody? If Hot Rod wanted an article about Holman-Moody, they would have interviewed them. Instead they get a spot on the email page. Congrats! Kevin 07SGT2591

Well, that being said..... LOL, While I agree with a lot of what you said, your delivery needs work. Those that have a deep respect for Mr Shelby, like myself, choose to do so for the history he has made and, yes, for the history he is making. Remember, history is only a record of time. And while the impact of the current generation of cars from Shelby may not have the impact of the last generation, surely, it will be added to Carroll's story. I have not asked but, I dont think Carroll would want anyone to put him on a pedistal. But, he has earned my respect. If he has not earned yours, I highly doubt anyone would. Since you dont live of this world, maybe you havent noticed everything thats going on. High fuel prices, terrorism, poor economies and on and on and on, Team Shelby is a break from that. A place where a person can get away from all the garbage that is our world. Some people knit, some watch TV, others collect what to us is worthless stuff. Its our escape from everything or anything we want not to think about. I dont see where these people can be labled as haters. In fact, when we attempt to lable a group, we usually are wrong A LOT! Your right, Carroll Shelby is not God and Neither is Amy. What they are is fine people that have put something together that I thouroughly enjoy. I would like to be considered a friend to them and, while they are very, very busy people, I hope they would feel the same about us at Team Shelby. Considering that, its not usnusual for friends to come to the defence of other friends. And, while I may not agree with them, I wont chastise how they feel as, just as I have not done to you

robertlane
There's no question that Holman Moody did a vast amount of work for Ford. They might have even worked with Shelby on some projects in the combined effort to deliver Ford victories in various events. Both Shelby and Holman Moody kicked ass and won just about everything they competed in. I for one respect Holman Moody as much as Shelby. Here's some photos from Ford's archives Sebring 12 Hour Race, Sebring, FL, 1967. AJ Foyt and Lloyd Ruby drove the Holman Moody Ford Mark II to a second place finish.
