viffr
I've convinced myself that after 40 years, it is once again time to have a Mustang convertible in my garage. My last Mustang (a dark blue 67 convertible that I still carry pictures of in my wallet) wasn't all that good in sealing out the weather, and my first question is how are the latest generations? I certainly don't expect it to be water tight, but how is this model in day-to-day driving? Rain? Noisy interior? Second question: Is the cloth convertible top available in the premium V6 model? I've seen it on GT's and I like the appearance of it much better than the vinyl covering. Also, why isn't this 'option' mentioned on Ford's website when building a either a V6 or GT vehicle? I have an 06 GT Deluxe Vert with the vinyl top, cloth wasn't avail in 06. This is my first vert, I am 42, and I will never go back. I go Top Down from late March to early Nov. It is as quiet as the coupe with top up and completely water tight with zero wind whistles or rattles. No comparison to the drop tops of the 60's. IMHO I say Go For it. The Mustang order guide shows that the cloth roof is available for any application that the black vinyl is acceptable. It would be my guess that you're not going to have a problem. Most dealers will not have a stock order so equipped. I owned an 06 GT Vert w/vinyl, and now own an 07 GT/CS Vert w/cloth. Both tops are very quiet; some folks feel that the vinyl is easier to maintain. I have seen too many vinyl tops that fade out, or just look old before their time. I've had several cloth top convertibles through the years, and there are two issues that you may find. Bird drippings can be a problem, along with any neighbor's cat who decides to use your car as a perch. That said, the roof fits well, and looks gorgeous. I love the cloth roof. Best of luck! HotRodHarry
You will absolutely love the new convertible Mustang GT. Pics of mine are on my website. As for the cloth top or vinyl....both seal well and look great. Its up to your wallet I guess now. Like it was said..I had no choice in 06. Now get out there and buy one!! 07 GT500
I had many classic mustang convertibles and know about the wind whistles, the rain coming in on you and everything. In July of '02 I bought an SVT Cobra convertible. I can tell you that the late model mustang convertibles are a lot like driving a coupe when the top is up. You'll like it! RUFDRAFT
Does anyone know if you could use Scotchguard on the cloth top? It works great on cloth seats.
awakeinAZ
The only downside I saw in another post is, cloth tops don't get aloung with car covers. The top collects all the lint from the cover and is difficult to remove. Freeway and in town I can sometimes hear other cars if they are close by on each rear quarter. I guess the noise will pass through the cloth easier then metal. I don't call it noisy though. I reccomend you check out the CS option over standard GT. Orf
Does anyone know if you could use Scotchguard on the cloth top? It works great on cloth seats. Bump. I was also wondering if there is some sort of treatment, like scotch guard or even silicon like on tents, that is recommended for the canvas tops? vsop
there are car covers that will not leave lint on the top. And I would only get a cloth. had the vinly on my 2000 an it fades fast, and the cloth is rated for a longer life span
ponyent
I believe they tell you not to use detergent to clean a cloth top and the only dressing that is approved by the top manufacturer is "Ragg Topp". It is available from many sources and it seems to work very well.
mastersmech1
I have a GT 500 with a cloth top. I've been extremely pleased with the top up noise level. It was one of my major concerns as I have driven my share of noisy verts. The Ragg Topp product does a great job waterproofing and giving a "scotch gaurd" affect. I got a cover from Ford that is unlined. It's supposed to be thier best. It leaves no lint on the canvas and is very lightweight and small for storage.
