What's the Best Shelby Compliment You've Gotten?

ShelbyGT/SC

Recommended Posts

We all get them all the time, but I would love to hear some of the best compliments we've all gotten about our cars.

Some of the more memorable ones I've received were:

1) Just this week, from a lifetime Chevy and Corvette lover and owner, he said he has never liked any of the Fords or Mustangs but he said, with enthusiasm, that he really loved my Shelby. To me, that was pretty powerful. This guy wasn't just some tough guy off the street. He seemed like a really respectable, articluate and intellegent guy.

2) Last fall, from a 2003/2004 Cobra lover and owner, he said that he really wasn't into the new 2005+ style Mustangs all that much, but after seeing my car, he was hooked.

So come on all, post some comments you've received. I'd love to hear about them. I remember reading many over the past year and a half, but I would love to get a refresher and have a consolidated place for them all.

There are 2 that kind of stand out. The first, I didn't actually talk to the guys. I was in a restaurant beside the window, and the convertible was in the parking lot with the roof down. Two construction workers walk towards the car, one stands up next to it like he owns it, while the other takes his picture with his cell phone. They start laughing and walk away.

The other time my wife and I were just cruising down the highway, off on a little golf holiday. A truck follows us at a respectful distance for over an hour, and when we reach a stop sign at a T-intersection, he leans out and says "It's been an honour to follow your Shelby!" That was funny...

A guy walked up to me 2 weeks ago, He proceeded to say how he loved the Shelby's than turned to me and said I'll give you more than you paid for it, I said NO, he than said I'm sure I can make it worth your while, I said again NOT for sale and never will be as long as I'm alive, He said you're one lucky guy than walked away. :)

I had a guy walking by my house while I was washing my Shelby. He said great car. I said its not as expensive as a ferrari, yeah maybe he said its a lot better.

Best Shelby compliment was from two gentleman that told me the same thing:

Last fall at the Elgin Hogeye BBQ and car show, an elderly gentleman with a cane and big straw hat told me he had been down the road that I am on and that I should not change a thing including the wheels, especially not to install a power upgrade such as a supercharger or turbocharger. He claimed Shelby got this one just right.

This spring I came out of Jollyville barber shop and the store owner next door sat on the bench looking at the Shelby and shaking his head from side to side. He said not to change a thing for Shelby got it right. This guy drove what was his sons rice rocket because the son got too many tickets.

Coming onto Fort Detrick to go through the security gate, as I was pulling forward slowly to pull out my ID card I heard one cop say to the other, "here comes the Shelby".

The gate guard then proceeds to tell me and my wife "you guys have the nicest car on post". That was a nice compliment. :)

p.s. Fort Detrick is a tiny but growing Army medical and research post- not like Fort Bragg or Fort Lewis, etc, where there is an Army Corps or Division along with a much larger troop presence. (edited for poor grammer)

Some really great quality comments. But the quantity of comments is amazing, everything from people in other cars staring, giving thumbs up, making comments about "great car!". The best compliment I've gotten is when two locals in their heavily modified Japanese import followed me to a local repair shop to talk Shelby's. Now we wave every time we pass in the street.

The last time I was home, I stopped at the Valero gas station and was filling the Shelby up and these 2 younger women (late 20s) pulled up behind me in a Miata convertible and the passenger who was quite pretty (smokin hot for you younger guys) said to me " Nice Shelby, would you take me for a ride? just as my wife came around the pump with 2 bottles of water.....the girl said never mind! Too funny....I love that car.

Now if only my wife had a sense of humor about that.

Yesterday was the first day I took it anywhere except around town. Lots of thumbs up and nods. There were two groups of Harleys that passed us on the highway (they came up to see the car so I let them go around). We had the top down the whole time so I could hear them say "nice car" when they drove by!

Well, in that same thought..I think the best compliment yet was when I was comin down a straightaway n a couple of Harleys were coming towards me n they gave that low hand salute, that they give each other, as they went by...

I had to say 'cool' ta myself as I have never seen bikers give that salute to a cager...lol

I've got 5000 miles on my black 'vert and hadn't had any comments (maybe it is because the black cars without stripes are so stealth) until a few weeks back I'm sitting at a light and a lady riding a Road King Classic pulls up beside my and asks "you have a '68 Shelby as well, thats cool!"

My license plate reads 68AND08

I, too, have to comment over the number of compliments my car gets. My car is my daily driver, and I get thumbs-up, smiles, and verbal compliments all the time. I was just at the O'Reilly auto parts store last Saturday to get a fan for my daughter's 1999 mustang, and the clerk who was out front on a smoke break asked me to sell him my car. I gave him a "yeah, right" grin, and walked inside. I'm keeping that car until I die!

I play trumpet in symphony, and a young lady in another section is just one of the sexiest women I've ever seen. Known her for about eight years, now. I don't think outside of music, she's ever said a whole sentence to me.

After some concerts, a few of us will hit the local taqueria for a pitcher of margharitas now and then, and she'll occasionally attend. We ended our concert season on June 29th, so we had a pretty big group and went to a different place. She followed me there, and after we parked we were walking to the door and she grabbed my arm and said, "By the way, your car is TOTALLY awesome!"

I think it was the sequential turn signals.

Two incidents immediately come to mind (although there have been many)

Just got the coupe and I drive by 2 Vette owners sitting in a parking lot in Wilmington NC.... When I park they both come over and tell me how much they like the car, ask details etc. Nice guys...

The one that made me the most proud....about a week ago, I pulled up to a country restaurant just north of Toronto where I now live during summer months with the Red convert (top down.) It was a Sunday and families were out having lunch with their families. The place is quite large with seating for about 100. I had the good fortune of getting the parking spot immediately outside the main entrance. EVERYone exiting with a child (or buddy) stopped and looked at the car, most looked inside and all walked away with a smile on their faces after having talked about the car for a bit. It was a mastercard moment for sure...can't beat a red Mustang convert for getting attention on a hot summer day.

I can't take my car out without getting compliments. I love this car. Just Sunday, I took the Shelby up to my in-laws house for breakfast. One stop at the gas station and two different people came up to look at it. While at my in-law's eating breakfast, there was a knock at the door. It was the neighbor and his wife wondering about the awsome car in their driveway. People are always amazed to find out that this was an actual rental car.

The one I remeber most is about two weeks ago two stoners drove by my house and the passenger was hanging out the window and yelled...............FU**KING NICE CAR MAN!, My wife said very calmly "they must like your car", "must" I said.

The other day I stopped at the gas station before heading to the track (Phil Long Ford Day). I filled up the tank in a couple of minutes. A half hour later I left the gas station. People just kept coming up to me asking me if they could take a look. It was pretty funny. I didn't think I'd ever get out of there. I finally had to say I had to go. Most people mentioned how much better it looks lowered.

Had all kinds of compliments, but recently we were on a cruise with about 15 other Mustangs, Sherri's driving, I'm riding shotgun. I'm looking to see if everybody in the group made the traffic light and along comes a pimped out Caddy, sporting at least 26's. He's checking out all the cars, working his way forward, gets to the lead car and then slows down, pulls along side us and says "Daaamn, that mo fo is jacked up". I'm like, oh thats a compliment, thanks. :hysterical2:

The best compliment I've ever gotten on this car is from an old college professor of mine. I was back on campus for a meeting, getting back into the Shelby to head home and he drives up in his vintage Triumph that he restored himself. He sees my car and starts asking the usual questions. Some of his questions had me a bit puzzled, and when he asked if I had Holley carbs, I got really confused...so I slowly said, "you know it's a 2007, right?" He was dumbfounded. He thought it was a '60s Shelby!!!

He's a sharp guy, and definitely knows his cars, and once he got a closer look he could tell right away, but it tells you just how perfectly Ford nailed the S197 design, and the GT500 design in particular. It really is a gorgeous homage to the classic '60s Mustangs!

I work on a base, and I also get the "here comes the Shelby" from the guards. They also completely ignore the fact that I don't have front plates - they've told me on many occasions "I wouldn't drill holes in that bumper either!" :hysterical:

I had some Harley's behind me at an intersection and I had the top down; overheard them saying "that is one bad %#&) car." I gave them a little exhaust note in reply and they were just grinning and shaking their heads. Very funny.

I would have told her "absolutely, as long as your friend wouldn't mind taking her home!" :hysterical::hysterical:

Of course my wife has a sense of humor, where it sounds like you may have been faced with :fear:

I think my favorite compliment so far came at the last show I went to. There was a little boy about 4 years old walking around with his dad. His dad was snapping pictures and told him that when he found his favorite car, he'd take his picture with it. There were some really nice 60's vintage mustangs and various muscle cars, hot rods and a cobra kit car. The little boy drug his dad back to my car and stood in front of it smiling for his picture. He told his dad "this car is the most awesomest hot rod I've seen in my ENTIRE life!" I thought that was really cool.

I have had too many different comments and complements to mention....It is so fun just to take the car out for even 5 minutes. I live in a neighborhood where $100,000 cars are a dime a dozen, so you would think my car would blend in, but its a Shelby.

Couple of fun times come to mind.....

I was sitting at the local Starbucks meeting a potential new employee for an interview. There are usually 5 or 6 collectible cars there every Saturday morning. After about 20 minutes, an older man approaches me and says "It must be you...Is that your Shelby outside?" Apparently, he had asked everyone in the Starbucks who the owner was until he found me, and it was a very crowded Saturday morning, too.

Another time, I was at a large Quick Trip gas station to fill up with gasoline. I had just finished, gotten back in the car, and started the engine. Now I just have the stock Shelby GT exhaust system, but with the top down you can really tell how awesome it sounds. I had the top down (Its an 08 SGT Conv) and started to look around to back out and leave the gas pump area when I noticed that 7 different drivers stopped filling their cars and walked around from there cars to where they could see my car. They just watched (a couple gave me thumbs up) as we drove away....then my 5 year old son asked me,"Dad, why was every one watching us just now?"

The most recent one was tonight. I drove up to drop off the mail from the office after dinner. I pulled back out on the main road and was sitting a few cars back from the stoplight with my right turn signal on to head back home when a couple in their mid 50's pulled up behind me in an Explorer. I have the Sequential tail lights from CDC, so you could really see the three stage turn signal in the late evening lighting. I could tell they were both checking out the car, when the lady in the passenger seat started pointing to the right turn signal and started moving her finger from left to right touching three invisible points in the air as she was talking to the man driving. I could read his lips when he said,"Its a Shelby (dear)..." I just wish I had a video camera to play that one moment over and over again...

This car never ceases to amaze me...from driving pleasure to vintage Shelby heritage recognition from others who grew up wishing they had owned one years ago. I have never regretted this purchase!! Thanks Carroll Shelby and Ford Motor Co.

Andy. :happy feet:
