ColdwaterHotrod
Has anyone heard anything more about the Shaker 1000 if it is or isn't going to be offered for the convertible? Or has anyone gotten their Convertible car with one yet? The last I heard the added weight of the sub-woofer combined with the added weight of the Convertible put it over the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) weight limit? flashfearless
What does weight and safety have to do with one another? I think that it has to do with vehicle classifications based on weight and how it impacts your insurance costs. Ford would have been aiming for a certain vehicle classification and if they exceed the FMVSS for that class, then they would have to reclassify the vehicle...Your insurance would go up and sales would slide...Just like why the Stang is a four seater in the first place...All about insurance... Black Sunshine
I don't think sales would slide in this case, maybe the ADMs. I do see what you're saying though. I called Ford Customer Service Tuesday on my GT500 coupe and was told it was on "material hold" and I have the Shaker 1000 option. So, I have no idea what is going on. cchesley
I got the lowdown on the vert Shaker 1000 at a recent event. I talked with a very highly reliable source about the problem. I asked what was taking so long to build my car. The source said that the weight of the Shaker 1000 trunk unit is breaking the brace that holds it in place. It is being re-engineered and they will began producing Verts with the 1000 again in November. It has nothing to do with safety. The trunk unit is very heavy. zmanav8r
Besides insurance and all that other stuff let me ask a more important question. Can you get a set of golf clubs in a vert with the Shaker 1000? If not it is a no go option to me. Help a mustang brother out someone.

b17drvr
I'm removing all the Shaker 1000 subs and amps from my shelby. The only difference from the 500 is the addition of the subs and 4 80 watt (rms) amps. The rest of the door speakers are the same (I'm going to replace those ) as the 500. Save your time and money and just get the Shaker 500. To me the Ford (Visteon) audio midrange and highs are way to bright and the sound below 120 hertz is way too muddy. (Yes, I am one of those audiophile people)

ratnacage
Besides insurance and all that other stuff let me ask a more important question. Can you get a set of golf clubs in a vert with the Shaker 1000? I've actually had two customers that based their final buying decision on whether or not golf clubs would fit in the trunk. Neither were GT500's, but in one (shaker 500), I put the club bag in the trunk and made the sale, on the other (shaker 1000) the bag would not fit and lost the sale. With the exception of the GT500 we don't order Mustangs with the 1000 simply because the system isn't worth the price, and it actually makes selling the car harder due to the added cost. Also, I was told today that GT500 coupes with the 1000 are on a 3-4 week delay. Not sure about verts - probably at least the same.

Then why are they coming on GT and V6 verts no problem? Same trunk, same unit, same parts.
Dropping__Chronic
Why would you even consider putting golf clubs in your back seat? wet/dirty from the course, all kinds of sharp points to scratch up the seats. Dunno, I'd ditch the 1000 system and get something else aftermarket that didn't take all the trunk space. (and I'm not even a golfer)
rpretzel
Personally, I don't think lack of space for golf clubs is a problem, and I am a golfer. I don't think I'd ever take the Shelby to the golf course. All sorts of errant balls flying around, idiots opening their doors into cars, etc. Just doesn't sound like the best place to take a Shelby, in my opinion. I'll stick to throwing the clubs in the back of my truck.

I think my gin-soaked liver completely dissolved about a month ago. I'm going to have to get a new one off e-bay. As my wife keeps telling me, the longer it takes, the more money we can save for the down payment. At this rate, I should be able to pay cash for the whole thing. The only requirement is resilience :P
