Putting things into perspective

I was leaving a car show today and had to make a stop at the local Ford Dealer in Blair, Nebraska (Woodhouse Ford).

To my amazment they had cleared all the cars from in front of the store except one...It is the first 2008 Shelby 500KR to be delivered to the general public...yes this is the first KR released to the public. This car has just arrived a few hours earlier. I know this is a KR but it is still a Shelby.

I would down load pictures, but the smallest file is 1,500 KB

As the story goes, there is a family in Nebraska that has always loved Mustangs (they have 4 or 5 from 1968 thru last models). But several months ago the Mom of the family finds out that she has terminal cancer. Her situation is critical and she does not have long to live. Her biggest dream is to have a Shelby 500 KR. So the family did everything they can and was able to get on the waiting list.

However what they did not know, is that the dealership called Ford and Shelby to explain the story. Everyone agreed that they were not sure if this lady would live long enough to ever see the car as the normal assembly process goes. So Ford and Shelby have expedited this car the be the first car delivered. It is car number 08KR0053.

As I was there I got the see this lady go out see her car.

Goes to show you that Ford and Shelby really do care about our problems how every big or small they may be.

We need to remember the important things in life. Just this last week, four young Boy Scouts were killed by a tornado less than 40 miles from my house. After today's car show there was a town parade with a Boy Scout troop marching in it. As they get in front of us, several of them were carrying a very large American Flag. This troop stops, orders were given (Military style) to lower the Scout flags...followed by a bugler playing taps. You could have heard a pin drop when he finished.

No matter how big our problems may be with hood scoops, faux gas caps, stripes or anything else, we need to put thing into perspective.

Thanks for putting up with my rambling. But I thought you may want to know that Ford and Shelby do care about us.

Well said

Agreed, nicely put. I live in south east Iowa and people are losing their homes to the severe flooding...everything they've worked for their whole life is washing away. My family is on high ground, but I've never seen flooding like this before. Our cars are a luxury that we should appreciate. Dave

Great story ngnear. It's good for all of us to stop for a reality check every once in a while to realize how insignificant out little problems are. My thoughts and prayers go out to the lady and her family. Thanks for posting.

This action by Shelby and FoMoCo speaks volumes about the quality and integrity of the people that run both companies. The story really does put things into perspective with respect to what matters most in life, and that's life itself.

H.P. numbers, bad clutches, and what kind of supercharger should I buy do not amount to a hill of beans compared to loosing your life to a terminal illness or your home to a natural disaster.

ngnear, I commend you for sharing this story with us.

awsome story about a mother with cancer gettin a car of her dreams.

yeah. we just dodged a bullet last night.

we had a bad storm come through with 80mph winds. a tree across the street narrowly missed my mother's SUV. but if i were home it would have fell on my SGT. this storm was BAD. more than 10,000 customers in the area without electricity, mostly homes. i was performing a slalom on the way back home from work this morning from all the debris on the streets.

i was at work at the time the storm hit. so no trees near my SGT. :drop:

makes us feel how fortunate we are.

I wonder how much ADM the dealer added to this dying lady's KR?

Well I would certainly hope that it would be nothing. That would be just a little ridiculous, especially if they found it a worthy occasion to go to the lengths they did just to get her the car.

Guys, this really was an amazing effort between Ford, the dealer counsel for that area, the dealer and the Shelby Team. Besides all the work from all the other sides, other team worked non stop and on time off to get this done.

It was a complete team effort and we couldn't be more proud to be a part of giving someone the one thing they were looking forward to.

All in all this really makes you take a step back and realize what really is important in life.

Enjoy your family, your friends, your car. I hope it all lasts as long as possible

This really makes my DAY. With all the negative stuff you hear on 24 hour news it's great to hear about great people who really care. GREAT job to all of you hard working SHELBY people and FORD.My dad worked for Ford for 30 years and put 4 kids through college. So i have alot of respect for Ford and all they have done for our family. I can't tell you how many Ford products i have purchased over the years and will continue to purchase.

Thanks to all of you !!!

SUDDEN- You say some of the strangest things. I mean especially this situation. How much ADM did you pay? Or were you one of the guys that made it away without the dealer charging $8300 for the Shelby package?
