MustangsRule
I took my 07 to my dealer and (of course) he says he can't hear what I hear which is an obvious ticking noise for the first few minutes after startup. It reduces after that to a point where you really have to listen or not have any external noises offsetting it - in order to hear it. I'd like to know if any GT500 owner is still dealing with this problem or have you dealt with it already and how. I notified Bud @ SAI. He said thay'd ck it out upon arrival, but if they found it to be an unresolveable problem, they would not convert my car. So, I'm asking all of you with this problem to please let me know what, if anything, was done to your car to eliminate it and if not how are you dealing with the matter. I'm between a rock and a hard place. This is the same dealer that said I didn't have a tranny problem but eventually replaced it. They just don't want to listen to you and never give you a straight up answer. Therefore, I'm asking you guys .................................... Boss Doctor
I have what sounds like a header leak even after I tightened the header bolts last weekend. I can't hear it at idle or rev. I hear it while driving. It's driving me crazy. I also have the diff clutch noise problem I have to get addressed.
SHELBYCS6
a loose, incorrectly torqued or cross-threaded spark plug will give you the same type of noise.

Thanks Bob Did this happen after the tranny issue was resolved? Just wondering if you are having a similar issue to Grabber when his was replaced. Does the noise go away after a few minutes? Put the ford stock one back in and see if it goes away? The other brand of filters reduce flow just enough to make the engine tick.

Thanks Bob What Bud will be mainly interested in is engine damage. I would pull the plugs and have someone scope the pistons to see if there is any sign of damage due to detonation. If not and the car is running fine then I would chalk it up to normal cam noise. I had the ticking on my car. When I replaced my cams with the ford GT cams it got even worse initially and has settled down since then. I think with high flow heads and cams these noises are fairly normal. MustangsRule
To answer aobrien: No, I noticed it before that, it's just that We (dealer & I) concentrated on the tranny issued and it took a backseat. To answer Grabber: Dealer does all my work. Had 2 changes since new. (22 months old - 4600 miles). I'll assume they used FOMOCO products since day one. To answer farmdog: Will Dealer do this or do I take it to a speed shop. Are you running long tubes. How's it run with GT cams. I am taking my car to Quantum after SAI to replace the exhaust and install long tubes. I really don't want to break the engine down - but I might if installation of the GT cams are worth the effort. Give me the short scoop on them. Thanks Bob

I am running American Racing long tubes (1 3/4 with hotjet coating). I would not do the cams just to do the cams. I was rebuilding my engine so I added them. They are very subtle and most people would not notice them, although they do give some extra breathing at higher RPMS. Quantum helped me out in a pinch in January. Tell them I said hello and thank you for their efforts!

Thanks Bob Hello bob, My name is dan. in response to your ticking noise I had the same problem when I bought mine a year and halh ago. The noise got worse and it turned out to be a bad lifter. It sounds as if yours is losing pressure after it sit a long time. Then when you start it takes awhile to pump back up. Be persistant with your dealer to get it corrected. Good Luck, Dan
