SGT ShuttleGuy
Dumb driving mistake. Looked left and didin't see a curb on my right as I came up a from a lower level parking garage. Scraped the lower body molding (rocker panel?) under the passenger door as I made a right turn (rear tire ran over the curb but no damage there). It's my first significant "damage" since I got the car . Can the molding be purchased as a separate item? ...and in the color of my car? PS It's not visible unless you look under the car. Which begs the question, how bad does something have to be before you (Shelby GT owner) will take the next step and have it repaired? I've gotten by with touch up paint on a simple door scratch here and there, but this one pushed me over the edge... :tequila:
ShelbyDude
You can order them from any ford parts department. They are all the same part. I think you will have to have it painted though.

Great news! :whew: Thanks for the quick response. I'm hoping that their caveat/disclaimer about the parts being sold "as is" doesn't mean that they, too, are scratched. But for the price I'm willing to take a chance. One last question. In your opinion, do you think I should be able to reuse the black buttons that hold it in place or should I get new ones? From the looks of it I probably need to replace a couple of them just due to the scraping I caused.
RogerS
They make a plastic pry tool for those buttons. You should be able to get one from Autozone or NAPA. If you do have some in bad shape they have them in stock at you local Ford Parts department or stop by any body shop. They always have them. Kelsey
You brought up a good point. I've gotten a few scrapes on my front bumper, and have wondered about a replacement. It's only two quarter size spots that can only be seen from underneath, but it still bugs me. Where does everyone else stand on something like that? and If you were buying a car like this used would that be something you look at? Theres one spot where a bug got the last laugh on my front bumper by the yellow light. Which brings up another dumb question who was the moron who made the bumpers out of black plastic on a white car!?!? Hows everyone else faring on the scrapes/chips and paint damage from daily driving? Sorry about all the questions, but I just had a bunch of thoughts come about from this and figured I'd compare. I stopped with the rear wheel still up on the curb, had my wife get out to see how bad the damage was before I got out...It sounded as if I had actually ripped that lower rocker panel off of the car...it was THAT BAD of a sound!!! She said she couldn't see anything, so I got out and took a quick look then just pulled ahead and let the rear wheel off of the curb real easy....Saw some BLUE paint on the curb, so I know I scraped the bottom of it, NOTHING is visible from outside the car...I guess I may have to do the take off parts as well...I can't stand having something like that that I know I've screwed up....Geezzzzzz Just call me DOPEY!!! P.S. I've got a few bug hits on the trip from Texas to Florida, but none so bad that they have chipped the paint...now the stripes is another issue all together...I've noticed a couple of very small dings in the stripes on the hood...guess I need some Satin Silver Touch Up Paint...hopefully they make that for us...I already have the Vista Blue for a couple of rock dings....but hey, I guess if you're going to drive them, they're going to get scratched and dinged...RIGHT??? I got my spoiler from them and and extra hood and both were REALLY well packed and was pretty much perfect. A minor scuff under the spoiler but nothing you can see. The great thing is these are factory painted and you can't beat it. They of course have to have some sort of disclaimer for the one guy that will demand perfection which just isn't possible etc. Been very pleased with them thus far. They have a center piece that pops out, which reduces their diameter and they pull right out. Just reverse the process to put them back in. You can purchase news ones though if they end up damaged. I'm not sure if this is a "Mustang thing" or I'm losing my depth perception (just gettin' old). I still haven't gotten used to the view over the front of the car. It's almost like the hood creates a blind spot that doesn't allow me to judge around the side/front fenders very well.

Well, let's not talk about "gettin' old"...I just turned 51 on Saturday....I'm contributing it to the VERY LONG hood on the Mustang...LOL Ever since I put my GT500 spoiler on the back, it looks like people are trying to climb into the trunk with me when we stop...all I can see most of the time out the rear view mirror is the top of their heads, so I'm wondering just HOW CLOSE THEY REALLY ARE!!!! People just don't get it that I really don't want to get to know them that well...LOL Oh well, at least our "damage" isn't all that bad and not noticeable unless someone gets under the car....we can fix it at our leisure and we'll be the only ones who know anything ever happened....well, except for all the others who read this on here.... Nah it's a mustang thing. I can never tell where exactly the front bumper is, but I've developed a pretty good system. Pull in until I think I'm gonna hit it, then go about a foot more. This has never failed me and I always am the perfect distance from the curb. :happy feet: I did the same thing you guys did back when I first got the car, kinda blocked that one out. Only no damage. Thankfully it was a low curb.

SGT ShuttleGuy
RE: those little black buttons.....go get yourself a grip of them from Ford. You will need them trust me on this... I'm gonna grab as many as I can just to be safe as you suggested. When I pick up the car after they "fix" my scoop I'll ask the body shop guy if he has a few to spare. As for the bumper, I've gotten accustomed to viewing the curb relative to my side view mirror. I stop at a point where the curb lines up with the bottom of my mirror in my field of view. I'm a couple of inches from the curb at that point. Of course this assumes my head is looking from a consistent sitting position (and, that my head is screwed on straight). Thanks for all the feedback!
Grabber
I ordered a set of the rocker panels after my wife ran over a piece of road debree that kicked up and put 2 gashes in the rocker panel. I only needed one side, so I have the drivers side as a spare. The piece was perfect / flawless. Here is ther link to the pic's of the removal and install. This was very easy to fix. $99 bucks for the painted parts was a great deal. http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php...ic=30388&hl=
