Anyone upgraded their speakers with factory shaker?

Recommended Posts

I have the Shaker 1000 soud system and i want to upgrade my speakers. I want to keep my factory head unit because i want to keep my SGT stock.

I know that the front door and rear deck are standard 6x8 and any 4ohms speaker will do the job.

However, for the front door sub, i know that they have to be shallow because the back clearance is not much.

I would like to know from you guys who did upgrade their speakers with the factory head unit, what you have done and what speakers brand and model you have used.

P.S. Any links that could be pertinent would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

Confused... you bought the 1000, as did I, I think it kicks ass!! Why do you want to change out the speakers?

kicker

Kicker, Kicker, Kicker.........Seen and listened to a Kicker test car at the Team Shelby Nationals in Tulsa last weekend. It utilized the factory headunit and all factory harnesses. They not only had replacement 6x8 door and deck speakers, but they had perfect fitting door woofers and a replacement for the shaker 1000. It was similar to a L5 solobaric built in a plastic enclosure and sounded pretty kick ass. I have not a clue how much $$$ the door woofers were, but the shaker replacement was around 1500.00 retail.

Wow, ok, but I guess I am still not convinced. China of Japan or Russia, I think the whole system is amazing, has great sound quality, and dollar for dollar can't be beat. Once you get to a sound level, I doubt the human ear can tell... dogs maybe! LOL Sorry just my .02

Don't get me wrong the factory speakers are good. I just like alot of bass and when driving down the road the bass disapears.

I think someone needs to have their system looked at! If I even attempt to crank mine up, top up or down, and it will just about knock my side mirrors off with the bass. I don't know, but my 1000 kicks ass!

I only have the Shaker 500, but the 4 speakers (doors and rear) are the same in all Mustangs (I think). I put in those speakers from that bad link I placed above and I can tell you that the factory speakers are paper. There has already been discussions on this board regarding them already being blown, ripped, and dead upon car purchase. Bottom line...the factory speakers are garbage.

Can't comment on the Shaker 1000 though, but the Shaker 500 does lose its bass the faster you drive...

interesting... but I do not boubt it. However I do recall a thread some time ago where there was an issue with some of the 1000's having volume issues as well tjhe trunk mounted units were bad. Not certain, just stating mine rocks, so before you spend cash check with someone local to you that may have the same system and compare!

I can't compare with anyone around here. I don't know anyone so I will have to check into that. I am used to competion amps and subs so I don't know. I have amps and subs so if it comes down to it I have those components already from other cars and stereos I have owned.

Hey All,

I have both Systems in different cars, the Shaker 1000 has better sound, the Shaker 500 can crank louder, sans the extra Sub.

Having said that, I think for the Buck the Stock Ford system is adeqaute, its not home fidelity, but IMHO there is NOT a car stereo that can make that statement anyways, at least a decent home system anyways.

Before I spent lots of moola on a stereo upgrade, I'd consider adding another Amp so more juice finds its way to the Mains, Shaker 1000 that is.

I did do a total sound/video system overhaul on my F250 Diesel PU, but my goals went beyond adding better sound. I did a complete system change, Head Unit with Nav etc, Speakers, 5.1 Video with a Ceiling Mounted LCD, for the kid, most of it Alpine.

As for Sub Woofers, you sure your using your menu to set the Sub up, turn it on, etc???? I have mine set below the half way mark and song depending rattles my car pretty good.

Good Luck,

Moe in NH

PS. You might want to consider adding a Bazzoka Tube, relatively inexpencive, somewhat easy to install, can be added and removed with little to no mod's, they are both Powered and Non-Powered. Schedule a Hearing Check up as a last resort. :talkhand:

Before we got the GT500 we were listening to 2 15 inch Volfenhaug subs with an Alpine deck in a grand prix 2 dr. Those subs are 500 watts rms each at 4ohm. I am just guessing that those 10s in the GT500 are around 250 watts peak power and probably 4 ohm. I like to feel my music not just hear the trunk rattle.

I posted on the old site (ShelbyAutos.com) some time ago about this. Kicker does make a shallow sub that should fit in both 2 and 4 ohm, but Crutchfield said that our Shaker 500 factory 8" subs were rated at 1.4 ohms, I think. Short of amp'ing and rewiring the entire think, I don't know that it would be worth it. I wish that I had ordered the car as a base model with leather and not gotten the Shaker at all so as to be able to upgrade it more easily, but, frankly, I listen to the exhaust more than the radio anyway...

I have nothing other than what is in my brain about the test car. You may need to call Kicker directly for part numbers and other info. I agree, my shaker 1000 sounds like crap, should've saved the cash and put my own system in the car. (edit: Mids and highs are awesome, the junk in the trunk sux.)
