Service Engine light

I have an 08 SGT #1042, the wife and I took a drive from Denver to Breckeridge colorado and back today and on the way back the indicator light for Service Engine came on around 50 miles from home so I took my time and got it home. The car did not act as if there was a problem of any sort, looking for ideas from the group so when I take the car in on Monday to the dealer I know what I should make sure to llok for and make sure the delar is aware of from the Shelby tune. The car is a stock 08 Shelby GT. Any input is welcome!

Thanks

Check to make sure the gas gap is closed tightly. It should turn a few clicks after it seats to ensure a good seal.

Not sure about the SGT, but I've heard of loose gas gaps causing the check engine light to come on in other vehicles because the computer thinks there's a problem in the emissions system.

Run a system check by pressing the Setup button then pressing the Reset button...it'll go through several things on the speedometer odometer area...have all doors closed when you do this...it'll check charging system, doors, trunk, fuel level, gas cap, etc.... Just a thought on where to start. Let us know what you find out on Monday...BTW, you fail to mention how many miles on the car...had it had it's first service yet? Just another thought there...

1400+ miles has not had it's first service yet. I ran the check on the system as you suggested nothing came up as an answer. I'll take it in on Monday. Thanks for the suggestion

Definitely be careful with the dealer. My check engine light came on, I took it to the dealer, it needed a new pcm, they said it would take a day, called me back and said that it would take longer, I tried to make sure they understood that it was not just a mustang gt, but a shelby that had been reflashed in vegas, they said "We know what we are doing blah blah blah.....Long story short, they had it for two weeks and couldn't figure it out. I had to have Amy have some one from Shelby talk to them. I finally got it back, they claimed that Shelby had been giving them the run around (yeah right) and I had to take it back to the dealership less than 24 hours later because they still had managed to install the wrong program. Oh yeah, I had down loaded the codes before taking it to them (they were still in the memory) and it was the same codes both times. Stress to them that it is a Shelby GT and not just a mustang GT the way the VIN reads out. Good luck.

John(;-)

P.S. The proper flash program is available to the dealership via email from Ford - pretty much instantly!

I guess it pays to do your homework before you believe what you read....I took the word of the Dealership (HUGH MISTAKE) that I could run 87 octane in the SGT and it works until the car get's to 10,500 feet and then comes back to 5,000 feet! I took the car down and filled it with 91octane this morning and drove it for 15 mins on the highway and then got off at an exit and took it thru town for about 20 mins stopping a several stop lights and got it home parked it and turned it off, went in the house and ate breakfast did some yard work, letting this bother me through out the entire day after 5 hours I went out stuck the key in the ignition and turned the key so I could see the indicators on the instrument panel, you got it the service engine light is off. I read in the manual that if the emission system is the issue this would correct it.

I guess I will keep an eye on this if anyone thinks I need to do something else please speak up!!!

Is there no sticker on the inside of the fuel tank door??? There is one on mine and it reads 91+ Octane...I've run 91 Octane out here in West Texas and I've heard it knock a little under hard acceleration...I've been getting 93 Octane on my trip to Florida this week, and I haven't noticed the knock on hard acceleration...I wouldn't run anything less than 91 Octane if possible...

Absoloutly there is a sticker 91+ octane but I didn't realize that with both the book and the dealer saying you can run 87 octane that they are referring to a standard GT....LESSON LEARNED!!!! Dont run anything less than 91 Octane!!

The base Mustang manual says you can run 87 BUT your SGT Supplement Manual CLEARLY says 91+.

Lesson learned, pay attention to the sticker on your fuel door and the Shelby Manual.

how does the SGT run with the wrong flash program? does it run rough or sluggish (like a wet sponge)? :headscratch:
