mjbarnet
I'm relatively new here, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before (a search didn't turn up anything). For those that have paid, is the $50 to become a "team shelby" member worth it? I know the cost is ~0.1% of the car, but unless there is some really cool stuff in the store, I don't think it would be worth it to me. mitch
ShelbyPilot
Mitch, The $50 is more then stickers, a shirt and what is in the store. The kickoff for Team Shelby was a invitation only three day event in Vegas. The oppurtunity to be at a Birthday Party with Mr. Shelby. Track time, a show and preview breakfast at the Shelby Cafe. Later this year is the Terlinuga event that is an exclusive event for Team Shelby members. Also there is a worldwide kinship with friends from this forum. The $50 is worth it. I have met friends from this forum and Team Shelby from all over. Guys in New England, New York, the South, AZ, Netherlands, and people with 20 minutes of my house. I have met people that come to SoCal on vacation and want to talk in person. One Team Shelby friend from Florida was even kind enough to take me as a guess to Mr. Shelby's Birthday Bash. Also, don't forget Team Shelby is less then a year old. More events and regional chapters are expected as time moves on. Plus more items in the shop and more oppurunity to meet with friends. The $50 is worth it. You'll spend less then that to fill up a Shelby these days. Come on aboard, Chris

ingram4868
WELCOME to the group, you will find a huge knowledge base here specific to Shelby cars. IMO, membership fees is what allows the site to exist and continually grow. If you own a Shelby you will not find another site with more traffic and information that is specific to your car. Membership is a small contribution for the information you will receive.

Just in the last 6 months I've taken advantage of easily $50 worth of discounts offered only to Team Shelby members so in one way your TS membership can be FREE if you take adavantage of these discounts. Also your TS membership curently lets you purchase an out of print Shelby GT500 book. This book is not available anywhere else except thru the Team Shelby store. Either way you go, welcome to the TS board. Steve

I have chosen not be a member because I don't see the benefit. Stickers, shirts, store items, newsletter? I can find most of this stuff on Ebay! Any new product information in the newsletter will ultimately be posted elsewhere within hours anyway. Invitations to places that I can't go anyway due to work aren't a big sell (might be if some of the expenses are covered!). Team Shelby advice, tech support, new friends and comradery is there whether you pay the membership or not. I joined Stangsunleashed very early in it's development and have met many people on this board. I've also learned a great deal from the "general" forum members. That to me is the most important thing! Not the opportunity to spend more money on stuff I can get elsewhere (and often cheaper).
hotrodric
Invitations to places that I can't go anyway due to work aren't a big sell (might be if some of the expenses are covered!). 69deluxe For me access to attend the members only events is the main reason. Expenses covered....depends on your point of view. A $399.00 ticket to the 85th got you; 2 nights in the Winn ($600 right there), the Shelby/Bull Run from LA to LV, a seat at CS 85th Birthday party with open bar and catered dinner, goody bag with well over $100 worth of stuff (one sold on evbay for $600), breakfast and lunch on track day, performance driving and Drag Racing on LV Raceway with instruction, autograph session with Mr Shelby, car show, and a chance to meet and talk with some of Fords Engineers, Baer Brakes people, and of course all of the wonderful SAI people. Plus a wonderful party put on by SAI at the Blush night club (in the Winn) with an open bar and hor'dourves, and a nice pankake breakfast the following morning on departure day. Also a number of us made the trip afterwards to Barett Jackson and received FREE tickets to the opening night gala and had our cars on display. I don't think you could find a better value (if you can find the time to go), nor could you ever have more fun at any car related event. IMO. But it is ok with me if you don't join, then I will have a better chance of getting a ticket for Terlingua

mjbarnet
Bump for the new guy Why thank you! For me, I've already gotten my $50 worth. I’ve made some new online acquaintances and learned how to deal with my new car’s rear axle rust. Even if the access to "restricted" sites and other items are not worth the money, I like knowing I am helping support this site. I also try to donate to NPR each year for similar reasons. For my money (pun intended) this is the best GT500 site on the web, free or otherwise. Mitch
Z-man
After thinking about the benefits of joining versus not joining for a few weeks, I took the plunge yesterday at All Ford Nationals at Carlisle. While walking through the vendor area I came across the Team Shelby tent (didn't even occur to me they might be at Carlilse). I met Sharon 'live' and had we spoke for about 10-15 minutes. I left with my "goodie bag", and by the time I got back home after the show, I was a full fledged Team Shelby member with access to everything on the web site, and that CS logo under my name. Although I don't post much, I am on the web site almost daily, and the information I have gained off if it is worth much more than $50.00. And yes, I did not need to join, but it was time that I felt I should. I have met a few other Team members at cars shows and even at Evolution Performance, and every one of them has been great. Glad to finally be a full member!
YZD263
To me membership is well worth the $50.00. Although I did not have the opportunity to go to Vegas, it's not hard to figure out that this package was quite a deal. Last year's Dearborn event was great also, and I'm looking forward to another great one next September. Add to that other benefits (e.g. opportunity to order an otherwise unavailable Shelby GT500 book), and you can see $50.00 is not too much for what you get. svtbird91
Plus don't forget the monthly news letters that offer exclusive articles and monthly discounts for Team Shelby only. What monthly news letters ? I don't remember recieving any news letters in the mail. As far as club get togethers forget about living in the north east . It seems all the events are either in MI or someplace west of there. Not all of us can afford to have our cars shipped across the country nor do we want to. I haven't heard of any plans to schedule a TS event anywhere near here. I am discourged by the lack of TS comunication and consideration for this part of the country. Having to drive 10+ hours one way to an event every year is not something I look forward to. I would love to have gone to the birthday bash or the Tulsa event but they are much too far to even consider especially with the price of gas these days.
