Spin out at the track!

I wasn't sure where to post this and I hope the owner isn't a member here but ........

A buddy of mine was at the Pittsburgh Raceway Park last night and watched an obvious 1st time drag racer bash his GT500 up! This little spin out followed his first run of 18.5.

The PIC only shows the front damage. He also rippled the rear quarter and scratched up the rear bumper.

....... Think he'll remember to remove his foot from the throttle next time he turns the car sideways?

A DRAG RACE? Obviously this person never learned John Force's first rule of Drag Racing - DONT TURN :):):)

18.5? I ran close to that with my new 1978 Toyota Corolla SR-5. -- 20.5 @ 62 mph...

Let's not be so jovial and critical of somebody who had a mishap. It's really too bad that he damaged his car. If it was his first time down the track, it'll probably be his last... which is a shame.

Let's lighten up a bit.

Minor damage. The guy at least had the balls to give it a try. I hope he is able to give it another try after riding with someone to get a little schooling.

On my "first ever" trip to a drag strip in November of '06, my GT500 had just passed the 500 mile mark on the odometer.

My first pass was a respectable (for a first-timer), and uneventful 13.4

My second pass had me staring at the concrete wall just past the 60' mark.......................... :eek5:

So, I tried it again.........................and was staring at the "OTHER" wall............... :fan:

So I can imagine how this guy feels.

Oh, and that was the day I decided road racing was a LOT more FUN :shift:

And SOOOO many people think driving on a drag strip is easy (I get hassled all the time by the Nissan guys here at work - because although I enjoy road racing and autox, I also like drag racing). Imagine trying to keep 8,000 HP going straight :)

Not that I've mastered road racing either................I got passed by a Honduhhhh last month at Hallett. He was a 10/10ths driver and a bit outta control, but....................

There's just usually a LOT more "run-off" on a road course :baby: and a garden hose usually fixes her right up

On the bright side, I passed several Porsche's, an Elise and a 350Z..............It's all about the driver...........at the strip or in the twisties...............

When I ran my Corolla in '79 or so, it was the only time I had run the quarter mile. I went because my brother was racing his Vega - with a 454 in it. Yikes! And for $5 more than the entry fee to watch, I could get a pit pass and race (so to speak). So I tried it...

I couldn't hear my 1.8L engine, because of the Charger in the other lane. I had to watch the tach to make sure it was still running. And with my full-face Bell helmet, I felt ridiculous. But I didn't stall, and I got my time card.

It wasn't as easy as I thought...

My buddy and I took his Duster bracket racing once. He told me as soon as he gets bumped out, i could take the car down the track. I was kinda grateful he made it to the final round. I really didn't want to drive a 10:80 car on slicks down the 1/4 mile for the first time.
