Best Headers?

Recommended Posts

I am still looking at getting a supercharger, Whipple or KB, but would like to hear and see some pics of your headers, why you bought the set you have and how you like them. I am thinking about getting the JBA Cat4 ward equal length shorty headers for street use but don't know whether I should look for any other makes (BBK, Hooker or whatever else is out there). Also, if you want improved heat dissapation (I can't spell for beans), do you get the stainless steel or the ceramic coated? Do you get a better sound with equal length headers?

Great choice I ordered them for mine too. Shorties or long tubes could not make up my mind, then one simple question, what do I want from them and where will I be driving most? Answer street and want low end torque and power. Simple L/T make more Hp but at higher RPM not practical on the street. Shorties make the best low end gains in torque and HP from o to mid range where most street driving and racing is done light to light. there fore I opted for the shorties. JBA 50 state legal and bolt right up to the rest of your exhaust system. Keeps everything smog legal.

Just remember that SAI will not install a supercharger with headers installed on your car...there must be no engine modifications made for them to install the supercharger!

Did not know that. Any reason for them to take that position? Would it be better to S/C first, then add headers?

Yes, LuLu had some information on this in his post recently where he added a set of headers only for some testing....

This from Donnie's Dashboard...Donnie Beason, Director of sales SAI (I believe that's correct)

2. If you have added performance modifications to your car, you MUST remove them before we can work on your car, For example, if you have headers, we cannot add our performance package for it would be in violation of EPA rules..and we would be subject to sever penalties. So NO supercharger IF YOU HAVE headers or have modified your exhaust or intake.

EPA reg's are the reason

Cal66,

Most of the components on the Shelby GT are Ford Racing Parts. The strut tower brace, suspension components, air cleaner, engine calibration, et cetera. So to remain consistent and I decided to go with the Ford Racing shorty headers. They are stainless steel, very high quality, and have a beautiful polished finish. They are a direct bolt on in place of the factory cast iron exhaust manifold and require no modification to the Shelby exhaust system. I did not want to have to cut up my stock pipes to get headers to fit. They are not equal length and I doubt they have much of an effect on performance, perhaps 10 hp tops. But they sound awesome, they look great, and they save several pounds over the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. It's hard to get a good picture of them as they are tucked way down inside the engine compartment but here's a couple shots as best I could take them. They complement my Ford Racing Blue head covers nicely. All the best.
