SHELBY#18
The better question is how soon once it hits Shelby. Mine took one day short of 4 months. They are a lot faster now.
hotrodric
How long does it take to build a SS after receiving title on a GT500 Convt. If you are not on the SS list yet, it could be 6 months or so before your called to deliver your car. Then it could be a month or two before it is delivered. Call Cynthia at SAI for an idea of where you would end up on the CSM list if you signed up today. Good luck.
Vogon
How long does it take to build a SS after receiving title on a GT500 Convt. Welcome to the group... Time is generally believed to be based on deposit date, or assignment of CSM # date (i believe that). Once you get the call (and that's the longest wait), it's about 5 weeks turn around from the time you deliver the car to SAI in Vegas. Many cars are called at once, so you won't know exactly when it gets in the mod shop. Once in, it's about 2 weeks to get it out. That's the scheduling as explained to me last week. Because of the cars going through at any given time (used to be many SGT's and 40th's and soon the KR's), this may change. But it gives you an idea... And the other mod shops may differ. Best to call and talk directly to SAI or Tasca or Quantum directly...

Vogon
Thank you for welcoming me to the club. I,m looking to have a converible sent to RI for the SS upgrade. What do you think about the quality of the workmaship and the orerall ride of the convt?? I was also considering a Z06 Corvette. This response may be a little lengthy, because I'm in Las Vegas right now, after dropping off my coupe at SAI for the 40th upgrade. I'm just waiting to head out to the airport, so I have nothing better to do than bore you. And think about what I saw and heard today... There's a number of things that I don't know, because I have no direct experience with them. I haven't dealt with Tasca, and I've never driven a Z06. And I've never been in a SS - yet. However, I've read many posts from many people on this forum, and based on that, I wouldn't have a problem with any of these areas (Tasca, Z06, SS). Here's what I do know. I have both a 2007 GT500 coupe and GT500 convertible (both stock), with 3,000 and 10,000 miles on them. I love both of them. These are the best handling and performance cars I've driven, and they're incredible. There may be better, I'm sure there are, but you can't safely drive the GT500's to their limits on the street. My experiences pretty much mirror what most people are posting here, so the more you read, the better you'll get a feel for the car. There's so many mods, and degrees of mods, you can predict what the car will be like at each stage. The ultimate Shelby-registered upgrade right now is the SuperSnake or 40th Anniversary (for 2007's), and now there's lots of feedback on drivability and quality. The greatest thing about forums like TeamShelby is the variety of information, so after a while, you can get a very good idea of what they're really like. And whether they talk to you... My wife and I took the stock convertible on 2 golf holidays last summer, with 4-6 hours of driving each way, and thoroughly enjoyed the car. You can carry on a decent conversation even with the top down at highway speed, but you can decide if that's a good thing or not. And here's the thing I'm dealing with: quality of workmanship. The other side of the forum coin is that so much time on the forums can be spent on any single point, particularly problems, that it takes over your head. All you can think about is wheel hop, or clutch chatter, or bare carbon fibre, or some such. But the reality is, once you own the car, you just deal with the problem or ignore it, and carry on. It's not such a big deal in most cases, so perspective is important. If you're not also on a Z06 forum (I'm not), you might think the GT500 and SS have nothing but problems, but you haven't read anything negative on the Z06. My recommendation is to learn more about the Z06 so you can compare. And my feelings on the SS quality is that it will be high, so I have no worries that I won't be extremely happy with the final package. Which brings me to today. I dropped my car off at SAI, but it took me 20 minutes to get from my car to the front door (200 feet). There was a Vista Blue KR in the parking lot, so I had to take pictures. With my naked Vista Blue in the background. Then a red SS was parked in front of the building, as Gary Patterson (VP) had driven up. More pictures. Finally I got in the building and Bryan came out to check in the car. I had questions, he had answers, and stories, and I asked more questions. I had missed the morning public tour, so Bryan showed me the production area, and the building where the finished cars are kept until picked up by the owners. So many colours, so many options. I looked at many finished cars, and didn't see any problems with quality and finish. Of course, I was like a kid in a candy store, but it felt so good. I wanted to move in to a small corner and live there until my car was done. So big picture, I can't wait, and I'm sure any potential problems in workmanship will be taken care of. For example, SAI put on a presentation of some sort for local dealers today, followed by a tour of SAI. I was able to tag along to the tour, and spoke with Jim Owens (VP of Marketing), and asked how a quality problem such as lifting stripes or a supercharger problem may be handled after getting the car home. Obviously, most people can't just bring it back in, as they're all over the country (or continent, or the whole world even). He suggested that the car could be taken to an approved local dealer and SAI would work out the details of warranty coverage with the dealer. These guys are car nuts, and believe in the Shelby heritage, and I feel much more confident in leaving my car here than I thought I would. Because I had been dwelling on the negatives that I read in the forums. But I'm starting to realize that it's not that the individual problems may not be so big (although some are, like clutch replacement), but rather that they are just discussed a LOT. Which is actually a good thing. I am totally pumped about coming back to get my car. It's the 40th with full upgrades, including 725HP KB supercharger. But I really can't wait to get my black convertible here for the SS package with flat black stripes. The black SS coupes that I saw here marry the two cars, and are, to me, the ultimate package. So bottom line, if you can wait for your turn at Tasca without going nuts and buying a Z06, I think you'll be very happy. But that's just me... :happy feet:

Adrienne I had so much more to say, but I thought I'd stick to the question - sort of. I was going to wait until I had pictures downloaded to my computer and tell more of my story. I just got picked up at the airport in Calgary, and I'm back at work. Again, sort of... I had a WONDERFUL tour given by Adrienne and Cynthia, as personally requested by Amy, who I happened to meet outside the cafe. What a great bunch. If you want to know why they don't answer the phone when you call, it's because of the WONDERFUL personalized service that they give you. This tour was after the one given by Bryan when he checked my car in. And I followed it up by hanging around for the dealer tour. Three times in the mod shop isn't enough. Adrienne, you're a ball of fire. Don't change... :happy feet:

I'll see if I can post a picture of my GPS readout tomorrow. Somehow it said the maximum speed was 141 mph. That can't be right, that would mean I was speeding... Vogon
Thanks for taking the time, sounds like you had a blast.Sure would be nice to see your new ride once it's done. I'm anticipating my calling should be for July. Did you meet any police or be followed? Hope your day's been good. Randal. I hope to pick it up the week of June 23rd or 30th. That's 5-6 weeks out, which is what SAI estimates from the time the car is delivered. About 3 weeks to get it in the shop (although stripes were started the day I got it there), and 2 weeks once in. Without power upgrades to the 40th, it's only about 1 week in the shop. Those weeks are also the first ones available for me to get back there, because of work, so it's a happy coincidence. As for seeing it in person, let me know if you're going to be around Calgary. I'll let you know when it's back in town. No police following or stopping me. I have a Passport 8500 radar detector, which squawked a few times. All for cruisers coming at me on the interstate. Once it went off when he was only a quarter mile away or so, so it must have been instant-on. Approachimg Salt Lake City, it went off over 4 miles out. Two cruisers had someone pulled over, again coming the other way, and the detector went silent about half a mile later. Mostly I just set cruise control for 84 mph (speed limit is 75), because I knew I didn't have to make any better time. I still averaged around 65 mph including stops, other than overnight, and almost 75 while moving. I got in around dinnertime Tuesday, so took pictures of the bugs on my car in front of SAI while waiting for rush hour in Vegas to thin out. Pretty good trip, considering I drove alone. The only bad stretches were construction through Salt Lake City, and a bit more coming into Vegas.
