tsteff
tsteff I know everyone on this board wishes that they had the magic words that would bring you and your family comfort for your loss, but it is never that easy. Know that we are all very proud of his efforts on our behalf, and that we are so grateful to him and every other soldier who has served this country. You and your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers. If there is ever any kind of a need, all of us on the board would be more than willing to help out in any possible way; even if all that ends up being is cracking a bad joke or two to keep life loosened up. Never hesitate to ask. take care John KCMO, I really appreciate all of the kind words from all of you guys. The kids and I are doing well, and taking things day by day, it really helps to know that Eric was appreciated. Thanks y'all, T
My2nd'Stang
Took a while to get this all together, you asked, hope it doesn't bore you, here goes. (TMDE) ) Aug. 93 - 30 Jun. 95 The Army likes to kick us around the world, once or twice before we can retire. Yeah, it's only about 15 years and 9 months. Congress mandated DOD to reduce manpower, so the army offered early retirement and I took it. Hope it wasn't too much. Can't about my GT500, even though I haven't heard anything lately.
LSR
My2nd'Stang, your post is perfect. I originally started this thread in hopes to identify fellow soldiers and possibly join those who may have served together, and cars definetly brings people together. I had a good time when I served in the Army (1986-89). I find myself thinking about those I served with. Alot of them had a huge impact on my life because I went to the Military at 17 years of age after high school. Some were father figures and others were brothers and sisters away from home and most don't relize that. Infact, many of us don't relize what an impact we have on others life that serve with you, esspecially if you are resposibale for them (Supervision) wise. Under the military uniform lyes some tragic past that most have lived. (A Interesting Life Story) I remember when I went through basic training in 1986. I was in the same platoon with individuals that had never seen an African American in person before outside of TV. Which, I took for granted and wouldn't have ever imagined this if I wouldn't have witnessed it personally. And of course was around those in my platoon that hated African Americans. I met a young man that was from the Amish culture, who defected away from his cultures beliefs and joined the Army. Now this guy was very interesting due to he would eat insects for what he says "is high in protien". Me being a city kid, you can imagine my facial expression when I saw that. But the guy was one of the coolest, nicest guys I had ever met and even those who never encountered people like myself and those who were even taught to hate me, we all like brothers after spending 4 months with each other and forced to do eveything together. I remember at our graduation, we all were crying like babies when it came time to depart one another. So basic training was definetely a culture shock to me. I was just saying to my wife just yesterday that " I would be retiring with 20 years on 9-11-06 if I had stayed in ". But, things happen for a reason, I am ok with that descion. My unit went to Desert Storm a month after I got out.

yamahar1
US Army E-5 SGT 8 year veteran 1993-2001 Fort Knox, Ky Basic Training: School of hard knocks (agony/misery/heartbreak hills;;;I mean mountains) Fort Gordon, GA Fort Benning, GA (airborne School) Fort Bragg, NC Fort Stanley, South Korea Fort Stewart, GA No wars either for me, never had to go to Bosnia, and I was in the middle of the Gulf wars. My honorable discharge paper is dated September 11, 2001, though, is that freaky or what I loved the military, but it is not family oriented, and they don't pay beans, basically the poverty level. Every job I checked on the outside was at least twice my military pay, and I found one for triple my military pay. But, I had a blast as a kid seeing the world and being single! You know how the "parts" of a turkey are called "jiblets"? Well, perhaps it's because the only way they could get up inside there is if someone kicked the turkey in the jibblies. Cobra Boy
Ladies and gentlemen, Words cannot describe the reverance, admiration, and sense of pure unadulterated pride I feel inside knowing the calbier of people I am associating with here. Giving of yourself to your country is the most noble of actions second only to giving for your family. My family is proud of the flag we fly and the people that help protect it. Anyone that has experienced loss as a result of service can attest that it is love, faith, and patriotism that gets them through. My wife and I get welled up with tears each time we sing or hear the national anthem. My gratitude goes out to all that have served and continue to serve. Anytime you "come home" from protecting us, you will get nothing but love, gratitude and respect from my family. God Bless. ShelbyGal
Thanks to all of you who have served and our serving. I have the utmost respect for all! I still kick myself for not enlisting when I was 18, I would if I could now, but at almost 46 years of age... I am the daughter of an Army Sgt who served 20+ years; 1942-1963. I was born at Ft Lewis, Washington and went to Omaha from there, then to So Cal. My dad retired shortly after I was born, he thought I needed a 'stable' life. He was an MP. I am also a very proud Mom of an Army soldier. He just turned 19yrs old and is a Specialist. He is home right now (as of 12 hours ago) doing 2 weeks of Hometown recuiting before heading off to Ft Hood, Texas. He's a computer geek, 25 Bravo. Still not sure what unit he'll be attached to, guess he'll find out April 2. By the way, he'll be driving my car while he's home :eek5: Oh yeah, this is an edit... how could I forget...?!?!?! My mom was in the Army too, in the 50's. That's how she met my dad. My dad's sister and my mom were roommates and bestfriends.
