twobjshelbys
My workplace just built about 10 Mt. Everests in the parking lot. The raised every speed bump from 2.5 inches to 4 inches. What is the SGT clearance? Can it even go over a full 4" bump??? At any speed? Will I get high centered?
ilmor
My suggestion is that you get a tape measure and check your clearances, keeping in mind that when to go over the bump the car come down a little lower whenn it drops unless you take it very slow. Another way to do it is to make up something which is 4" think and slide it around under the car to see if it hits anything.

twobjshelbys
Sounds like they're tired of you driving that BJ to work every day :D I have only brought in for a "show and tell". Fortunately that route didn't involve any speedbumps. But after seeing gouges where people have already bottomed out on the new speedbumps (and they've only been there for less than one day), and they're adding them at all access points, I'm not inclined to even bring it. I expect some other performance cars (at least one Viper and a couple of 'Vettes) won't be either.
stump_breaker
We got 'em. CRAWL AT AN ANGLE and you might not bang your exhaust. If you hit them straight on you will hear your pipes hit the bump and almost throw up!
mrhugger
Simple solution. Drive backwards! Steve
mciarochi
After you scrape bottom several times, the pipes flatten out and you knock all the low hanging stuff off, so the problem will solve itself. See? You're worried about nothing!
fatboy
bring some service ramps with u....or better yet....sneak out there on a weekend when nobody is there and get some quickrete and poor some on each side of the speed bumps and smooth them out into gradual slopes. or u can try to sue ur employer for damages to ur vehicle. nite
Just take em very slow and at VERY sharp angle. My Vette was lower than the SGT and there were very few speed bumps I couldn't make it over.

My Vette was lower than the SGT and there were very few speed bumps I couldn't make it over. Angles won't work - driveway is too narrow and too much traffic in the AM. No choice to to take them head on. I'll probably continue to drive my truck. I may stop by here on the way by some time just to see how navigable they are, but when I can back up if I start to detect any scrape. I'll probably have my wife drive it over and look underneath while she does it.
twobjshelbys
Moderator, I just read the title and think it might be ambiguous. Could one of you please change the title to: "Shelby GT Ground Clearance" It's about speedbumps not a GT clearance sale... Thanks!
TheKurgan
That is so lame. What difference does it make to raise an already existing PIA speed bump? The people who go flying down parking lanes are the SUV's anyway. That won't slow them down. The faster they go over those the easier it is. They put them in on Saturday. All of the new ones had gouges in them by Monday afternoon when I left work. Friday comes a site email. "Be careful", it said, "they are working on the new speed bumps this weekend. They're going to lower all of them by 1/2 inch and make them more gradual. So they are basically changing them from Mt. Everest to a brand new Colorado 14'er. We'll see what happens on Monday. I measured using a 2x4 on edge under the car. The 2x4 is really 3.5", and the tailpipe is the lowest part (not the side valences like I thought). It's maybe 4-1/4" off the ground. No room for any front end dip when going over. It would drag the bottom off the car. I still don't think I'm going to be bringing it in any more.

That's a fact - I can get over them easier at 20 than at 5. And that's with my Dodge pickup.

I still don't think I'm going to be bringing it in any more. i wouldnt bring it anymore. my workplace doesnt have any speed bumps but if some of the idiots that work there dont slow the hell down someone will get the briliant idea to put some in. which it wont do any good because everyone around here drives monster trucks. but i'll be sh!t out of luck because my SGT is the only car i have. i should have bought one of those new Jeep wranglers instead. that was my other choice. some of the roads are hell on this car. one piece of interstate on i-540 on the Van Buren side of the river is eat up with craters... not potholes... CRATERS. and its like a washboard too. i wouldnt ride my harley on it. and some of the city streets are worse than the country roads. oh yea i bottomed out my suspension at a road construction area in town where they tore the asphalt off the top but they left a sharp ridge instead of a gradual bump on one end where it goes back to asphalt. there is no sign to warn u of any kindof bump. i was driving at night and didnt see it, and i hit that goin 35 mph and i thought my airbags were goin to deploy. i was so p!ssed. my car will be worn out by the time i get it paid for. i'll probably still have a good motor but the car will be scrap metal in ten years....my hood is already scrap metal from the hail damage. but i saved the scoop! maybe if my finances improve i can find me a living place with a garage and sell the bike and buy a jeep for a dd and put the car in mothballs.
