Whats the market like on GT500 project cars?

Recommended Posts

I always wanted either a 67 or 68 GT500 and I have done a few restorations like my 68 RS/SS 396 Camaro.

For me the fun is in restoring it plus its afforable for me because I get to see my payments actually transforming the car if you know what I mean.

So what is the current market like and do good project cars come up?

I am intrested in a all correct gt500 chassis and body with minimal rust. I consider things like matching transmissions / engines bonuses if they come with the car. I can always find a correct block or tranny. I drive my cars they are not garage queens.

I almost got a 1969 Z28 all matching everything for 20,000 dollars a couple years ago and still regret not buying it.

I was wondering what you guys have seen price wise on project cars.

One last thing a clone is out of the question.

Anybody seen any project cars lately for sale?

Someone just made a listing in the "for sale" thread of a '68 KR project in MI...there are no pics... but PM them and find out...

you can always go to www.norcal-saac.org to see if there are any local (Northern Cal) cars out there...

Good luck!

A few months ago I offered a friend $25K for his 70 GT 500 that has been sitting in a barn for 20 years ( car is in poor condition but rust free) and he said he had already had that offer. I would pay more but that was all I could swing. I will re visit him in a year or so.

I looked at a 67GT500 3years ago.. The body was on a spit and was stripped.. It was like swiss cheese... All the parts where there, but probably could not reuse most of them.. He was asking 30k. I passed..Went and bought a new SVT Cobra instead.. Maybe I am showing my age, but these cars are just not worth the price people are asking.. But again, something is only worth what some one is wiling to pay.

My suggestion is build a clone www.dynacornclassicbodies.com
