twobjshelbys
I got my BJ GT registered this week (OUCH!). I've ordered my BJSHLBY plate, but it won't be here for a while. The temps have expired, so I've got to put something on it. I get vanilla plates. The question is, on the rear plate connection I got some self-tapping screws. The question is, with the self tapping screws can they be removed and reinserted without losing the threads? Am I better off getting some stainless steel screws with keeper nuts and drilling it out? It looks like a tight space to get in back though, so maybe mollys? Thoughts???
Grabber
Just use the big corse threaded screws that came with it and put them in by hand. You will feel if they bite good. Mine were fine.

Mine were fine. Do you think they will still work if I put them in and then take them out to swap for the new plate? Or is this a one-time deal? Did you use four screws or two? Did you use four screws or two? I have done three swap outs like you are talking about, the temp, the regular, and the vanity. No issues. Hand tighten till resistance is all that is needed. Only used two screws on mine with a nice simple frame.

Did you use four screws or two? I took mine out to put my custom plate and frame on. They worked great. Good solid bite with the corse threads. I used only 2 and it is solid. I also put some small rubber pads on the back of the plate so it does not wear on the paint.

There is a cross mark at the top but I wasn't able to reach my hand back there to see if it has some extra backing. I have a similar frame. I wish they supplied different screws. All of my other cars and truck came with a threaded 10/32 machine screw/"nut" in the bumper. This is another Ford saving 50 cents... Thanks! Think of all the times plates are put on and taken off at dealerships just for test drives? These cars are no different. You just don't want to over tighten the screws where you strip the hole in the plastic bumper, otherwise you will have to go to a larger screw. Also, make sure you put the hole where the tiny dimples are which is marked in the bumper for where the holes go for the plate screws.
Snoopy
I find the name of this thread offensive, are we allowed to say "multiple insertion/removal" ? :tease:
msouhlas
I find the name of this thread offensive, are we allowed to say "multiple insertion/removal" ? :tease: I drilled small pilot holes instead of forcing the self tapping screws to cut into the plastic. BTW Snoopy, using only two screws constitutes DP?
nite
LOL... A little OT, but why is it most people don't mind showing their vanity plates on the interweb, but they coverup regular plates?
