Who built YOUR 5.4???

Here's one I haven't seen as of yet....

Who were the craftmen/craftswomen that hand built your engine??

From left to right, my builders are:

J. Donovan and Gary Smith.

Yours????

BTW, credit where it's due; this was my wife's idea. She was looking everything over under the hood, helping wipe away the slightest amount of grime, when she said this would make a fun question for the board. She then crawled under the back of the car with me and discussed how simple axle-backs would be to put on in place of the stock mufflers. God, I love that woman!

Yeah axlebacks are simple as hell on s197's. Thanks for that Ford. I'd probable weld mine anyways though....

What a wife!

My wife is the first woman I've known who likes to go fast.

She'll say - let's go baby! I do.

They ALL want to go fast......it's not the "going" that matters, though. :happy feet:

The two names on my plate are on the small side. My best approximation is:

Robert J. Shuman Jr. (could be any combination of consonants and vowels after 'Sh',

Jeff Paterno (same remark for letters after 'Pat').

It'll be interesting to see if there is any common thread to the builders when it comes to horsepower, problems, etc in the future!

Romeo Niche has never had an assembly line related failure to the best of my knowledge. And I actually got to talk to one of the gents who built mine many years ago. Getting to thank him personally....priceless. They get fan mail. How cool is that!?

:beerchug: I love hearing about craftsmanship.

I'll bet those folks feel great when they see one on the streets.

Here's a toast to Ford engine builders. Y'all rock. :shift: :beerchug:

For all y'all do - this Bud's for you.

Now if that's not stirring the pot, I don't know what is. :stirpot:

I can see it now....."J. Donovan...you're fired....your builds are only producing 410 RWHP vs. 422 for J. Schuman."

Please note the comma between horsepower and problems. I'm not assuming there'll be any problems...but I guarantee you not all our cars will dyno equally. I thought it would be interesting to see if there's a common thread between the builders and the dyno results. Obviously, there shouldn't be any difference in a perfect world, but.....

So, "stirring the pot"? Not purposely, certainly not to the negative side. Don't read more into it than is there.

Don't worry, didn't take it that way...thus my comical ending.

I found two stickers on my car. The first one says Henry Ford and Edsel Ford. The sticker on the other cam cover says Gary Smith and Ken Beinkowski. I bet that makes mine really rare. Funny thing is one side is a flat head and the other is a dual cam head. I wonder if one of the cams works the valves on the other side. :headscratch:

Is that a meth pipe in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

check out what pitpup posted over on the S195 threads - how to lighten the Mustang:

I saw that and tried to duplicate the idea in photoshop for a 68 fastback -- gave up after a while... harder than it looks!

Short-wheelbase = great weight transfer and low moment of yaw ;) cool!!!

I'm wondering, has anyone been able to deciper the names on the pre-production unit pix Ford was showing around in March-April? Ford had stated that the first units would be built by the best technicians and more would be trained/boot-strapped until up to full-production. I suspect there will be no bad ones but it might be extra special if on later cars those individuals show up again.
