RIRENTERGT500
I am changing the stock 3.55 gears to 3.73 gears on my 08 GT500. Will there be a significant difference in acceleration? If you have done this upgrade did you really find it worth it? I do not want to go to the 4.10's. MY car is a daily driver (30miles/day). Any input is greatly appreciated. I did the change and it is awesome, you can definitely feel it, but it isn't too much. I think 4:10 for a street car would be too much. I would go with the FRPP's. SSGT500
IMHO, installing 3.73 gears is one of the best mods you can do. It will make it easier to start from a dead stop, be less likely to stall the engine , the car will accelerate quicker. The stock gear should be a 3.31 in a GT500. jcthorne
Did you have to change the speedo gear to 21 tooth with the 3.73 gear? Bruce The speedometer calibration is in the ECM in these cars, not a replacement gear.
SSGT500
You have to buy a tuner to reprogram the ecm. Some Ford dealers will do this for you.

gassman
Has anyone noticed increase noise from the 3.73 gears?
SSGT500
It depends on how well they are installed. I couldn't detect any more noise on a properly installed set.
mastersmech1
You have to buy a tuner to reprogram the ecm. Some Ford dealers will do this for you. My dealer couldn't but the SCT tuner that came with my JLT CAI and Evolution tune did it with no problem... :happy feet:
Superchief
I noticed that it sucks down more fuel. But we did not buy these babies for fuel efficiency!! More pickup, I have not noticed any noise.

It takes a knowledgeable tech to set up a rear end properly. If it's not shimmed right, it will whine or howl. It's not something for the novice to take on.
