How much is to much?

I was looking for some aftermarket shock tower covers and found this site:

I'm finding it hard not to go overboard! HELP ME!!

Well that's the key...don't go overboard. Keep it clean, consistent, and elegant. The SGT has been lauded for its clean design remember the MT article?

In the above stuff I think, in moderation, they are fine. I use the rule of thumb, of "should Ford have done this?", "would if time and money were not an issue would Ford have done this?", etc.

I think these items are cool...but can easily be overdone.

FOR ME, I would get the Shock Strut Covers IF they work on a car with the brace and the Radiator Cover extensions. That's about it. The rest of it starts to go over the edge and not something Ford would ever have installed and will look like it. While TO ME the above items make up for areas where the fit and finish could have been better.

In the end though it's your car and what ever makes YOU happy!

Yeah, anyone try these covers with the brace installed?

I have them on my White Shelby GT, they look fantastic and fit perfectly over the brace. They are made well, go on easy and fit as if the factory made them. They are the right add on without going overboard on the bling. I also have the Shelby engine caps and they look great with the shock tower covers.

These are definitely on my want list, because I just don't like the ones currently offered by Shelby performance parts. The site says you can order them to fit several different styles of cross-member braces, including our own Ford Racing double-tube version. I have seen them at some area car meets - they look good.

As for the plenum and fuel rail covers, I would avoid the body-colored, but I thought maybe the standard metallic "Powered by Ford" would look nice (item #7). Although I'd probably ask if they could change the embossed pony with raised Shelby lettering or replace with the tiffany snake.

Just thoughts...

Did you buy from this particular vendor? Which ones did you get, plain or embossed (GT, 4.6, etc)?

I did buy them from Midwest Auto Gear. I got the ones that have the GT embossed on them as I thought it kept with the theme of the car. I just added a pick to my previous post, it is a little hard to see, but you can make out the GT on the left cap.

They do look good! I'm convinced and will order ASAP!

Looking at your pic, I'm now wondering if the plenum cover would even fit under the strut brace!?

I would caution you on the plenum cover. Someone had one and it caused issues over time. WIsh I could remember but in addition to the fit challenges they had some other issue that made me forget ever using one as they are designed today.

Since we're getting rid of the "GT" gas cap I really, again for consistency, don't want GT in the engine compartment. Rather have plain or the new Cobra should I decide to go that route. More plain I think because you can also over due to "logo" thing.

IMHO!

It fits. I have one on my SGT. It has about .5 MM clearance, but it fits.

Son,

don't you have the CS6 hood? I have this hood and was wondering whether they would fit. I think my hood blanket touches the strut brace now!

from what i have heard it will fit when the motor is off but hits when the motor torques and will crack over time.

Nope. I thought the same myself, but have made several "sprited launches" since it I installed the cover, and after specifically checking for that issue on several seperate occaisons over the last 10 months or so, there are no cracks or fractures in the cover what so ever.

Yes Dave, I do have the CS6 hood on my car, and there is no fit conflict what so ever. The installation takes about 10 minutes or so. Just remove the strut bar, place the plenum cover over the two front studs that protrude out from the front of the intake plenum, and then just lower the rear portion of the cover over the rear of the plenum. Re-install the strut bar and you're done.

Oh, and there is no issue with installing these covers on Paxton Supercharged cars either; meaning that there is no mounting conflicts between the two components due to the CAI.

Note: For those who may decide to install one of these covers in your 2006 Hertz car or Gt Mustang be sure to get the two front studs (small screws) with the cover because the two front studs that I mention above do not exsist on the 2006 4.6 Mustangs; FoMoCo added the mounting studs to the plenum in the 2007 model year.
