Convertible "Styling Bar" from SPP, Who's done one?

I think these should have come as a factory option on the GT500 Vert's.....love the look, and it is on my list of mods to do when our Shelby arrives....

SPP Convertible Styling Bar

Has anyone done one of these?

How hard was the install, or did you have a shop do it? How long did it take? Any special tools or skills required?

Is anything in the interior cut (panels etc....) to install it?

Does this increase wind noise and buffeting? Decrease it?

Last thing, does SPP use a "Mock" FOMOCO PN system, or is this a FOMOCO part?

Thanks in advance

Hi Gun Oil, ..some thoughts from what I've read...

-if the bar has brake-light LEDs in it (like a 3rd brake light, as some do) make sure it can be wired into the Ford harness to disable the lights automatically when the top is up so you don't go blind with reduced visibility thru the rearview miror/rear-window at night.

-make sure the light bar really clears the vert top when up -- I saw a discussion on some clearance/chaffing issues with one.

I'm not aware of the specific piece you mention but someone in here probably is ...Good luck!! Just a thought ...what about the piece used by SAI on the GT500 4th for the verts... might be worth checking with SAI?

I would pass on the 3rd brake model, and just go with the Plain Jane version......

My thought was that the SPP and SAI part would be one in the same?

ION the fittment issue, guess that is why I am tossing this out as well....last thing I want is something that causes more problems.....

I am pretty certain the Shelby bar is made by CDC. Shelby uses several of their parts. I have the CDC bar and installed it myself. You have to take out the back seat bottom and back. Then remove the top covers and side panels in the back seat area. There are brackets the are bolted near the seat belt attachment points. You have to drill holes and bolt the brackets in. If you get the third brake light, there is a wire that you slide into the top up/down sensor harness on the back seat passenger side and another wire that slides into a harness in the trunk. Before you put everything together, there is a template for cutting 1.25" holes in the top panels with a hole saw. If you mess up with the hole saw, it is not a huge deal. The top cover is about $20 to replace from the dealership. After everything is back together, the light bar slides into the brackets and you use an allen wrench to tighten it down. I didn't time myself, but it was probably a couple hours and I took my time.

If you are not comfortable disassembling your car, then you probably want to take it to a shop to do the install.

I have noticed NO change in wind noise or buffeting. When I am driving, I forget it is there. Also, getting in and out of the back seat is really not effected which really surprised me. The only two negatives I can see are if you are an adult sitting in the back seat, you are pretty much staring at the bar and the bar does block the view out the side window a little bit. Bottomline, this is one of my favorite mods. It really changed the look of the Mustang with the top down.

I got mine from CDC with the 3rd brake light so that the *&^*& behind me know that I am braking :) Very easy install compared to the SN95 versions. You only need to cut a hole in the cap that covers the top of the quarter panel. You can buy new ones to cut and keep your originals for IIRC about $30. It's the same piece for all new body mustang converts. 3rd brake light plugs right in to the harness in the trunk.

I guess this was a minor concern...getting the panels in the rear area out, and not causing damage.......I went to the CDC Site, and saw they offer one w/o the light as well, but for the same price as the one "with" the light......

SPP's is $349 vs the CDC version at $429.00

Hopefully a web glitch, I have an email into them with the pricing question.....

Thanks for the replies....keep them coming!
