wildcat
My dealer, who shoots straight w/me (family friend), said he's been told that he'll only get one GT500 this year. I was going to get #2. So he's sending me my deposit back. He did say he'd keep me on the list, but didn't want to hold my $ if he was pretty sure he wouldn't get one. Then he told me about the Shelby GT he just saw (which I obviously already know a lot about since I check these boards multiple times each day). But he said I could get his first one if I want it. Now the delimma ... should I go for the Shelby GT or hold out longer and wait for the GT500? Please give me some feedback. I'm wallowing in a combination of grief / uncertainty / and hope. Thanks! jrichard
Obviously, this isn't meant to tell you what to do...but if it were me, I'd wait and get the GT500. To me, there's nothing amazingly special about either vehicle with respect to the Shelby name. It's nice and it's fun to have, but no more. The GT500: licensing deal with Shelby to put his name on the current SVT Mustang. Very cool powertrain. More power, less handling. Neato. Shelby GT: licensing deal with Shelby to put Shelby name on the current Mustang GT and have Shelby American install a few FRPP parts. More handling, less power. Neato. Arguments over which one is the "real" Shelby are ridiculous. Speculation about future value is even more ridiculous. From what I've seen, I like the first one the most. PhantomAce
I'd wait for the GT500 if you KNOW you will be able to get one. However, here's something to throw in the mix: If you could get the GT at MSRP, I would have to believe it will be a lot cheaper than the GT500, and especially if there was an ADM on the GT500. If you gould get the GT for say $15-k less than the GT500, I wonder how much a 4.6 aluminum crate motor at about 450Hp to 500Hp would cost... You could probably put a crate motor in the GT that would make it lighter, faster and better handling than the GT500 at about the same net total cost. And, if the GT ever did have a "collector's" value due to the CS tags, then you would still have an original numbers matching engine sitting unmolested. Just a thought... Mike. wildcat
whichever one I get will be my daily driver. It won't sit in the garage. I just can't decide if it's worth the cost savings and the loss in performance to get the Shelby GT instead of the GT500. I really don't care which will be worth more 20 years from now cuz I just want a fun car to drive, and I've always wanted a shelby mustang so I'm willing to pay a little more for the shelby name rather than just buy a stock GT and add mods (although I understand the argument, RUF ... makes more sense, unless you're nostalgic like me!) I want the shelby name not for collectability or resale, but just because it will make me smile But I still can't decide if I should jump on a Shelby GT or wait for a GT500 if I can ever get one. AARRRGGHHH! Thanks so much for all the advice. I really like to hear all the angles on it.

Third option, tell him you want the first Shelby GT at cost and you will be around for thier second GT500 if and when. That way you have a foot in both lines, you won't have to pay an ADM either way, and the dealer will have sold another premium car for sure, and potentially a resale of the GT-S. Plus he has every incentive to work to get you that second GT500. Possible win-win.....

Was you dealer a previous full line SVT dealer or a previous Ford Focus SVT dealer? If not, did he just sign up to be a Shelby dealer this year? If this is the case this could be why he is only getting 1 car this year?

If not, did he just sign up to be a Shelby dealer this year? If this is the case this could be why he is only getting 1 car this year? Exactly. He just signed up this year to sell the Shelby. He was not an SVT dealer prior to that. Are all "newly registered" dealers only getting one? And is there any chance of an extra one coming in late in the model year for such dealers? Or will all extra GT500's go to the long time SVT dealers?

Or will all extra GT500's go to the long time SVT dealers? Newly certified, non-svt dealers are guaranteed one Shelby. Depending on their Mustang GT sales history, they may be eligible for one or more of the share of nation allocation. My dealer has received their official Shelby allocation letter from Ford. They are getting just one. Your dealer should have received their allocation letter by now as well.

Guest evilchris
Buy the Roush blower. Warranty. the Whipple. Screw warranties altogether. I'm actually debating building the bottom end from new and throwing 15PSI of boost at it.
flattusmaximus78
Yeah roush's blower isnt the most powerful thing going conidering if you want a built bottem end. It is safe though and can get you 400 at the wheels. But for a built bottom end KB!
gt5001
>Short answer. If you want a garage queen, Shelby GT If you want a car to drive, GT500 Just my opinion... I think that's in reverse order. More GT500s will spend their lives under cover than on the asphalt because their owners think the GT500 is going to be another Shelby AC Cobra or Mustang GT350. Also, the new Shelby GT will be a better daily driver - better mileage & much cheaper to insure.

wildcat
I talked to my dealer today, and he said I'd get his first Shelby GT at msrp, so I took him up on it. I've heard from Shelby Autos that they are planning a supercharger option, which would get about 380HP. On a lighter car, that will still be pretty quick, with the 3.73 rear end that they plan on using. I'm still waiting in line for a GT500 too, so who knows??
