vbalouzian
Why is it that every mustang that I have had, starting with 88 GT has had no handeling. does Ford have something against good handeling cars. Take the GT500 if Ford had put in a world class suspension this car would be off the charts. just my observation. so question is how do we get this hunk of beef to handle like a Porche. ok maybe not a porche but something that can stick to the ground. rpretzel
It's a muscle car, not a road racer. Fast in a straight line, crappy in the twisties. It's just the American muscle car way. I recommend this: Evolution Ultimate Lowering Package. Just put it on mine. I substituted FRPP springs for the Eibachs and added Tokico D-Spec shocks & struts. Takes corners like it's on rails. TurboGT
Has anyone using the FRPP "Handling Pack" not been happy with the result? The reason I ask is that my dealer gave me such good service & a good deal on the purchase of the car that I'd like to give him my business on a suspension upgrade while keeping the car under warranty for the time being by using Ford parts and letting his shop install them. Thanks.

I think you keep missing the point of driving this car...sorry you don't like it. You want a car that drives you without need for skill, then by all means, go trade it in for your Porsche. I believe 75% of it is driver related IMHO! If you want the car to do the driving for you (since some can't drive it) you should be looking at something European with an automatic transmission. (No insult intended!) How do I do it? Compensate for what you don't have -- do the 'driver' modification.... A lot of it has to do with 'seat time' and getting to know the car and what it can and can't do. .Wheelhop? Negative .Suspension problems? Negative .Handling problems? Negative .Stock Shelby GT500? Absolutely I guess I just learned to drive and race in much worst machinery than the GT500. For what you get you can't beat the price! I love my car.... SSGT500
My 82 Camaro cornered better. I agree that if you make modifications, you can substantially improve the cornering capabilities.

I've got the frpp handling pack and love it, also had them install the frpp 3.73 gears, frpp short throw and frpp cai. Car is awesome when I bring in it for an oil change I'm going to have them install the roush stop the hop kit as well with the 3.73 gears car just wants to jump off the line, frpp handling kit helped a lot but still a little wheel hop with the 3.73's. sharabi
.Wheelhop? Negative.Stock Shelby GT500? Absolutely I agree...mine is stock and i can get quick out of the hole without hop...go easy on it for fractions of a second until it rolls a bit then drop the hammer...no hop whatsoever......Bone stock. 1sweetazzgt500
My car scares the hell out of me at speed (120mph plus) and I can drive like a Mother F***er!!! That's why I had Coil-Over's, Front & Rear sway Bars, Panard bar, & Caster & Camber Plates Installed. I pick her up Tomorrow (3-29-08) and will post my Impressions and pic's ASAP. And as a side note I think the stock ride height is ridiculous. I did it just as much for looks as for performance!

phr3121
I found this link to be pretty helpful, this guy has been racing for a while and seems to know his stuff well -- I need to take some lessons from him. It is amazing what he can do with a stock 2006 Corvette Z06. Also, check the links in the bottom of his first post. TurboGT
Great Idea! The FRPP handling package is sweet. Having adjustable dampners is a plus. The lack of adjustability is the only thing that might make me hold off on the FRPP handling pack. I have Tokico D-specs on my turbo GT & they are nice to be able to adjust for different driving conditions. I may just save up a bit more and do coilovers on the Shelby & do the rest a little bit at a time. I do agree that the car sits a bit too high from the factory - coilovers would take care of that problem, then add adjustable UCA & LCA - that should take care of most of the wheel hop & be able to drop the hammer on it right at launch.
