I'm thinking about a GT500 conv

Recommended Posts

I would like a GT500 conv. It is a few thousand more than the coupe. Is the conv holding up well? Is there any problems with the top? Noise problems? Any reason not too get it?

I know I can't take it to the track. So I'm not worried about that. If you have a GT500 conv please help me out. Thank you.

Got mine in Nov 2007, have 1800+ miles on it, no issues, the top is very solid with NO road noise, I originally had a coupe on order, but was totally amazed at how solid the 'vert was.

If the top is up, and you have the windows down, there is quite a bit of buffeting of the top, especially at the rear window, normal I suspect, but then again, I'm always fracturing the basic speed laws, oops, I hope nobody reads that...

Buy it and enjoy! We are!

Mine (07 GT500 job 2 car w/1800 miles) is fine. Some guys posted some body distortion problems. It showed up as a wrinkle in the quarter panel just above rear wheel-both right and left sides as I recall. I think they had their HP jacked up with pretty heavy mods. It might have been on the Stangsunleashed site-before the Teamshelby changeover. Do a search.

Sub frame connectors will help that problem out. It is the first mod I did on all my verts. Haven't done it to the Shelby yet, but it will be done. I have over 5k miles since May 07 and no problems whatsoever.

I hate having problem with the top. I can't stand noise problems.

I hate having noise problems also. I have a few non-Ford conv's now with no problems. I would hate to think for $50k + these cars had problems. Nice to hear Ford did a good job.

The constrution of the cloth top rivals those verts of 100k or more

THE SHELBY HAS THE SAME CONVERTIBLE CLOTH TOP AS THE JAGUAR AND THE AUSTIN MARTIN DB7 N DB8 CONVERTIBLES AT A FRACTION OF THE COST.

I got mine in Dec but I just started driving it due to weather. I love it. I was driving it around tonight. It's nice to be able to pin it from a slow roll and smoke the tires. I left a burn out on my brother's driveway just to piss him off. He has Mustang GT and his son bugs him steady to S/C it or buy a GT500. They are great cars. I keep trying to think of an excuse to get a coupe as well. :D

I just got mine last sunday, and I absolutely love it. I was driving an '07 GT before (vert as well) and I can't really describe the difference. I don't think it comes down to whether the vert is any good; I think it comes down to are you a vert kind of guy? Some are, some aren't, but if you love verts, this car will take your breath away!

I have 4000mi on my 08 and no problems at all. No top noise when it is up. Operates smoothly. No leakes in the rain.. Car looks and operates fine with the top down. My only grip is the fuel injectors shutting down near redline. That will happen with any model.

I have 9K miles on mine - got it in Dec. 2006. Have made countless 1/4 mile passes (although non with my new 784 rwhp & 703 torque #'s) I've wun 60' times in the low 1.6's and ET's as low as 10.991 to 11.27 frequently. I've trapped over 134 mph in the qtr and the car is rock solid. I've had no issues related to the car being a vert or otherwise unless you coult me blowing a fuse doing something stupid at the track - but that was entirely my fault, as is the idiot detailer spraying water in the engine bay directly on the computer. Outside of those 2 things the car has driven from Indy to Herman for shelbyfest 2 times and Indy to Evolution in Eastern PA 2 times. I took it to MI 2 times and I drive it all over when the weather is nice here.

THe only reason not to take it to the track is if you get kicked out for going to fast with no roll bar.....which is what I would say is my biggest issue these days.

I've had mine since March 07 with no problems. It was the main stipulation I had when the spy photos came out way back when...."They BETTER make that car in a vert!" I'm just glad that CDC is making wind screens now...thats what I'll be getting for father's day.

I can answer this one, and it has nothing to do with massive power or mods. The dent/wrinkle in the rear quarter panels has occurred across the board on S197 Stangs....V6, GT, GT500, Saleen, Coupe, Vert, mods, no mods, you name it. So don't let that scare you away from buying a vert. They're solid cars. It was actually the very first thing I noticed when I drove off the lot. My 07 vert is so much more solid than my 96 coupe.

And I've been down the strip a time or two. But then, the best I could crack off was a 13.03. :hysterical3: I suck.

I have a small "dent" and "wrinkle" on passenger side. I saw it when I got it home and got mad thinking it happened at dealer. THen I cruised the dealer lots in the area and saw it, in varying degrees and locations on almost all the cars on the dealers lots. Apparently Ford can't figure out how to stamp sheetmetal very good.

Has anybody gone to a dent removal place to see if these "stock" "dents and wrinkles" can be removed???

My Gt500 Vert seems to make alot of impact tire / suspension noise. Low speeds are only noticable. Just sort of a thunk noise when I go over the big breaks in pavement. It seems to come more from the front, but it seems both sides equal. I am thinking it might simply be tire noise transmiting thru the chassis.

Whatever it is, it is minor enough that when the top is down I can't seem to detect it. I have read things about bad front strut bearings on '05-'06 cars, but mine is a mid year '08. It is supposed have been changed, but who know since these are lower production SVT's.
