They also announced 2009 GT500KR!!!

March 18, 2008

To: All Ford Dealers

Subject: EFC0200393DC 2009MY Shelby GT500KR

To compliment the one-thousand 2008 40th-Anniversary Edition Shelby GT500KR “King of the Road” Mustangs, Ford and Shelby Automobiles announce that an additional 746 units will be built for the 2009 model year to help meet worldwide demand of the supercar. Of that total, 571 units will be available for U.S. customers thus equaling the 1,571-unit production run of the original Shelby GT500KR. The remainder of the units will be for countries that did not receive 2008 models, including Canada.

Like the 40th-Anniversary limited edition, the 2009 Shelby GT500KR will feature a 540-hp 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 with a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack, 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, short-throw shifter, and unique suspension tuning. Exterior design draws inspiration from the classic Shelby KR Mustangs and features unique carbon composite hood, wheels, and unique striping.

The unique 40th Anniversary badging will only be featured on the 2008 special edition.

The Shelby GT500KR or “King of the Road” Mustang is the fourth limited-edition Mustang that Shelby Automobiles and Ford have brought to market since resuming their collaboration in 2001. It builds on the performance and success of the 500-horsepower Shelby GT500 – the most powerful production Mustang ever.

Delivering the “King of the Road”

The 2008 Shelby GT500KR began production on Carroll Shelby’s 85th birthday on January 11 earlier this year. As production ramps up to launch, enthusiasts can expect to see the first GT500KRs arrive in dealers this spring.

Each Shelby GT500KR begins life as a GT500, built at AutoAlliance International Inc., in Flat Rock, Mich. From there, the cars are shipped to the Shelby Automobile facility in Las Vegas, where a Ford Racing Performance Pack, exhaust system and short-throw shifter are installed. The GT500KR also is fitted with unique body, chassis and interior components. Every GT500KR will be hand customized and delivered to each customer in an enclosed transporter, just like the legendary Ford GT.

The strong demand for the new Shelby GT500KR was recently demonstrated at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona where a one-of-a-kind version built with a glass-roof was auctioned off for charity. The GT500KR sold with a winning bid of $550,000, which went toward helping the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Doesn't appear to have any color changes. Same as 08. No Grabber Blue listed!

Sat. Radio comes standard on the 09.

So anyone that doesn't want the turtle shell on the trunk will need to snatch up a 08.

This is my first year really paying attention to the process so I was wondering how set in stone that information is. Is it possible they my add more stuff before production and if it is possible how likely is it?

Ford just came out with 2009 order guide for the GT 500 :talkhand:

with the only changes being sat radio std.

Thank goodness my 08 doesn't have that hole drilled in the rear deck. To each his own, but Ford would have been wise to leave it an option. More practical would have been an inside gas cap release, providing some security for the fuel tank.

There's going to be a 2009 GT500 & GT500KR? Boy, I never figured that. I was hoping to get a 2008 GT500 before the last ones are sold and the price really goes up. I could have made a big mistake and spent more money than I need too. If only there was someone on this TS site telling us to hold out for the 2009 GT500's. We all could have made a big mistake paying too much for a 2008. If only there was someone telling us this.

Sometimes it's hard being right 99 44/100% of the time. But not this time.

I don't know what you are bragging so much about. I notice you have been here since Jan. The 09 has been rumored for over a year now, and it has been leaked by employees from Ford since last summer.

MSRP deals have been popping up more and more for over 6 months now.

Couldn't agree more. Even my 87 GT had a fuel door release and living in Brooklyn NY at the time with no garage, you needed everything locked up. They tried to steal that car no less than five times.

Sirius would do me no good as I'm an XM subscriber but that will soon probably change as they're working on a merge.

09 carry over and parts bin clearing time. Just change the VIN and get rid of those SAT radio antennas before we cant use them on next years model :hysterical:

I think SD said it and I agree, going to be a SHORT run of car for 09. Im thinking 4-5K. Then start all over for the 2010. Im glad the are making them for 09. I hope everyone that wants one gets it now. They are AWESOME cars dont let them get away.

Thanks SD for the news.

On the other side its a sad day for all of us that fell for the hype from Ford and now feel like we really got a bad deal.

I thought this car was going to he hard to get and now I see that Ford is flooding the market with more. I hate being lied to but what do we expect from any car manufacturer this is the reason that they have this reputation

Hey Ford just keep lying to the customers and I to will soon be driving a Toyota.

I am sure there will be a class action lawsuit coming and I will surely be on there.

If I really posted how I really feel there wouldn't be nothing but ****** .

when will dealers start taking orders?

My dealer told me last Friday they couldn't place an '09 order until May, 1 - but that was before the '09 order guide was released. Perhaps now that it's "official" thet will be taking orders.

Well I have to say the GT500 may become the small block chevy of the new millennium which has it's perks performance wise!

I'm glad the 2009 GT500's are coming soon. It's a great car. I hope there are some special grabber colors this year also.

Even with the news of 09's, I still don't think you will see any deals below msrp...Most dealers don't have any and with a short run most will be lucky to get one..With that said I'm glad I have my 08 and can just sit back and watch.. I hope all the working class enthusiast like me that have waited for the prices to come down can get one now..
